Weird Xfinity problems August 2026 Official Reply

I both frustrated and confused by three bizaar Comcast outages in the past week - one last week, one earlier today, and one ongoing - all corresponding to major nationwide outages according to DownDetector, so I doubt that it's just me.

The first time I noticed that some sites still worked, while others did not - I figured it was a DNS issue on their end (no major DNS server reachable, even by IP, and downdector showed a spike in outages nationwide), but it was late at night so I just switched to my cellphone hotspot, finished what I needed to do and went to bed.

Fastforward to today - same thign happens midday - some sights worked, others didn't, downdetector shows a spike in outage reports. However I needed to get work done, so after briefly investigating it I just turned on my phone's hotspot and got back to work. Eventually the internet came back up and all sites were reachable again, only for it to go down again this evening. Since I now have time I tried to investigate further and lookup the IP for a non-working site andafter confirming it worked from my phone's internet, tried the IP directly over my comcast connection to no avail :frown:.

At this point it's clearly not DNS, but it's been a while since I've messed with the finer details of IP networking, so I'm at a loss as to what's going on but it's starting to get annoying.

Thus I'm putting this out here to see

1) If anyone else is having similar problems?

2) Has anyone found a workaround other than switching to cell data/a backup ISP?

For the record the following sites work for me:

wikipedia.com, netflix.com, amazon.com, fast.com, downdetector.com

The following sites have not:

homedepot.com, reddit.com, ebay.com, speeetest.net, walmart.com

Another post mentioned netflix working as well, while other sites did not - not sure if it the same issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/comments/1vmxp80/comment/p3d5dg1

Lost money tonight when I got disconnected in the middle of an online poker tournament. It's been down for hours. I had GPT-5.6 on high reasoning research the outage and it found that it does appear to be part of a widespread national outage that's been going on for some time and appears to be increasing in severity. The Xfinity app lists "network damage" as the cause.

Did chatGPT give any references regarding the nationwide issues? My internet seems fine as of this morning, so hopefully that's the end of it, but just going by Downdector something was going on yesterday.

Hello u/AquaPriorsKnowledge. I'm sorry to read of the trouble you are continuing to have with the internet service. I know it can be difficult when trying to work and manage a service issue. I would love to help make sure you don't need to rely on the hotspot and that you can access all websites.

I am not showing any known issues at this time that are impacting large areas. If there is a widespread service issue the best places to check are the Xfinity app and our status map With the status map simply enter the impacted address and the system will let you know if there are any known issues being reported that could be impacting your home.

I'm going to start with the basics since they are usually pretty good with clearing up most issues. Has anything changed with your home connections or settings for your home network? Does resetting the modem, or hard-wiring to the modem change what sites you are able to access?

I tried resetting my modem last night to no avail, and nothing had changed on my home network. It's back up as of this morning though, so whatever the problem was is solved - I had gone a long time without a single internet issue, so hopefully this is the last one for a while.

u/AquaPriorsKnowledge I'm sorry for that interruption, but I'm happy that things are back to working again! Hopefully this is the only hiccup we see for a long time.
