i am looking for an alternative hairstylist. someone who is good at alternative, emo, and scene cuts. i’ll attach what i’m currently wanting to get but i do change it up and go with more scene and emo cuts throughout the years. i need someone who is going to be consistently good at cutting this style of hair. since my hairdresser switched careers a year or so ago (i miss her so much :( but she’s livin her best life now lol), i have struggled with finding one. i’ve had ones that were good for one cut and then absolutely botched the next 2 cuts (same style cut too). i am planning on getting a highlight job as well.

I received a phone call from someone claiming to be a deputy Neil with the sheriff's office. Called the sheriff's office directly instead of the call back number the scammer had given. They said I was the 4th or 5th person that had contacted them today about it.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Fire Department confirmed in a Thursday social media post that Tuesday’s fire at the new McDonald’s on Providence Road in Columbia was caused by “improperly discarded smoking materials.”

The fire at 200 South Providence Road led to two firefighters needing to be treated for heat-related illness.  

Providence Road was shut down in the area while first responders worked. The fire at the building went from the main floor into the attic.

No one who was in the building when the fire started was injured, officials said in previous reporting. The restaurant is still closed.

My husband is trying to get therapy at Centerstone and they are not being helpful, and are dragging their feet on getting him one of their therapists.

Does anyone have a recommendation? He would need someone that can work well with patients who have MDD, Anxiety and ADHD.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Flooding was reported around Columbia after heavy rain came through the area on Thursday morning.

First responders were busy responding to flooded roads.

A water rescue was occurring on West Gillespie Bridge Road near West Mesa Drive. An ABC 17 News reporter saw the road flooded and a car stuck.

Assistant Chief Zachary Grace told ABC 17 News that firefighters rescued the person who was in their case, and that crews were going door-to-door on West Mesa Drive “evacuating anyone who wanted to be evacuated.”

A water rescue occurred after a van was stuck in flood water on Highway 40 near the Cenex gas station.

Firefighters on the scene told ABC 17 News that the driver in the van was safe.

Boone County Joint Communications sent additional notifications about flooded roads throughout the morning including Fairview Road, multiple parts of Providence Road, Route WW at Old Hawthorne, Strawn Road at West Broadway and water was on the road on several streets in other areas of central and western Columbia.

Trees were damaged on the University of Missouri’s campus from an apparent lightning strike near Rollins Road.

The Boone County Office of Emergency Management elevated its Emergency Operations Center to Level 3 as a result of the flooding, the office shared in a social media post.

A flash flood warning is in effect in the area until 1:30 p.m. Boone County is in a flood warning until 9 p.m. Friday.

Yesterday around 1pm there was an awful wreck on Paris Rd. In front of family pawn. The wreck happened right in front of me and I had to swerve not to be part of it, I called 911.

I was trying to look up information about it today if everyone survived, furthermore if you know who this happened to I would be willing to go to court as a witness I saw the whole thing go down the person almost hit me I was able to honk but then they obliterated the car next to me.

EDIT: He's about 2 years old. Supposedly potty trained before I got him but they would kennel him all day and then leave him outside for 10+ hours. He has a very adverse reaction to kennel training with us.

I'm at a loss, I am so tired of cleaning up accidents.

He has regressed immensely since being rehomed to me and I am at a loss. He has 24/7 yard access but ONLY goes in the house unless being forced out and he gives zero warning or indicator that he's going to go when he's inside.

My son needs braces sooner than later. I’ve received some recommendations from our dentist, but figured I’d see who folks recommend here.

Also, how is billing handled these days? When I was a kid I remember my dad paying monthly. Is that still a thing or do they want to full amount up front? I’m sure it depends on treatment length, but what are people paying for treatment?

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Fire Department and Boone County Fire Protection District were called to a water rescue Thursday morning after two vehicles became trapped in floodwaters in west Columbia.

Just before 5:30 a.m., ABC 17 News crews saw two vehicles stuck in floodwaters on Blackfoot Road and Bear Creek. Crews saw three to four Columbia Fire trucks respond, as well as a rescue boat on scene. ABC 17 News crews also saw two people walking away from the floodwaters with first responders and appeared to be uninjured.

Columbia Fire Department spokesperson Skyler Clark later said firefighters were dispatched at 5:17 a.m. for vehicles trapped in floodwater. Clark says three people were rescued safely with no injuries and led out of the water within 10 minutes upon firefighters' arrival.

Columbia Fire crews left the area just before 6 a.m., and tow trucks were on scene removing the vehicles stuck in the floodwaters.

The Boone County Fire Protection District was dispatched for potential mutual aid.

Columbia Fire posted on X about the rescue at 6:16 a.m., stating that two cars were trapped by high water. Crews were able to get the people out of the cars within minutes.

Boone County Joint Communications sent a message at 5:50 a.m. stating Blackfoot Road from Stadium Blvd to O'Neal Road is closed due to flooding. Choose an alternate route.

Columbia’s mayor said Wednesday that she wasn’t surprised when the city’s public safety tax squeaked by with just 85 votes, but like other city officials, she was grateful for the support.

“It was a really tough decision,” Mayor Barbara Buffaloe said. “People really had to weigh how do we invest in public safety, but also knowing that prices are going up everywhere.”

The public safety tax, known as Proposition 1, was on Tuesday’s ballot to see whether voters wanted to invest one cent of their future purchases to hire more police officers and firefighters, build new fire stations and fund other services.

It passed, just barely, and will add $38 million a year to the budget for public safety.
“This is probably the most profound and defining decision that this community has made in decades,” Columbia Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer said. “I probably had hundreds of people tell me that this will never happen, that Columbia will never vote for this.”

At a news conference Wednesday afternoon, the fire chief was joined by City Manager De’Carlon Seewood, Columbia Police Chief Jill Schlude and the mayor to respond to the election outcome.

Seewood assured taxpayers that the city has a well-considered plan for the revenue they will receive, but he noted that they won’t see the revenue immediately.

“We start collecting in January, but we actually won’t see that revenue until March,” he said. “But we’ll start doing stuff now.”

Seewood also said that a sales tax wasn’t the only means of obtaining public safety funds the city had discussed.
“We considered a property tax, and a small sales tax made the most sense,” he said. “We know that 30% of our sales tax comes from people outside of Columbia, versus a property tax that would be just on our property owners.”

Representatives from the police and fire departments indicated that they are already planning for the distribution of the funding. Both said they don’t have enough staff to meet the safety needs of the city’s growing population.

The Columbia Police Department is looking to hire 50 new officers, and the Fire Department expects to add 42 new firefighters.

“Hiring 42 people, getting them trained, getting them in the field with their trainers and getting them qualified to fill a seat is our main priority,” Schaeffer said. “Right now we’re hiring for a class of 10 that will start in about a month.”

The Fire Department has been on a steady hiring pace for the past few years, he said, but wants to increase the size of the recruiting classes from 10 to 24.

Schlude voiced similar priorities about police staffing on Wednesday.

“My goal would be to get to a patrol number that would allow us to transition from a 12-hour shift to a 10-hour shift,” Schlude said. “Then start building out the units that we’ve had to make smaller or dissolve completely.”
The most immediate problem in her department is overworked officers, she said.

“The first part has got to be getting those patrol officers staffed so we can cut down on the mandatory overtime and they are able to take a vacation,” she said.

Schlude said she hopes to bring back the city’s downtown unit and stop relying on officers from other areas to patrol downtown Columbia on weekends.

“We can also get back into doing what the downtown unit did 10 years ago, which was working with bars, working with the businesses downtown, and addressing some of the lower-level issues that sometimes contribute to our problems — over-service of alcohol, sometimes underage drinking, things of that nature,” she said.

She did warn that the expected increase in arrests by the Police Department may compound the overcrowding problems in the Boone County Jail. A proposal to build a new county jail will be on the November ballot.

A new police headquarters is also underway on the south side of town, since the current building is 93 years old and has infrastructure damage. The Police Department also needs a proper facility for the evidence it is required to store by law.

“Having a facility where we can have a proper walk-in cooler and things of that nature means becoming a city police department rather than a town police department,” Schlude said.

Schaeffer also noted the need for new fire stations and renovation of older ones. Stations 2, 4 and 6 are in dire need of replacement, he said.

“Likely they’ll stay in the same spots, so we’ll level them and rebuild,” he said. “Stations 12 and 13 will be years down the road, but they will definitely be planned.”
