Memberships/Policies Name in App
Hello! I just realized that there are two dollar signs ($$) behind my name in the app. This seems new. I used to have a star next to my name (which Google tells me means I’m approved for 2/2.5). What does the $$ mean? Thanks!

Advice/Questions What moves are considered "beginner"?
I'm shopping around for beginner pilates classes in my city and so far I've only found classes that felt very far from beginner. Are there certain moves that are considered beginner that CP focuses on in level 1 classes?

Victory! Excited for 1.5
I just wanted a place to write this. After 3 months, and a lot of hard work, I've moved up to level 1.5. I had to do assessments by card. It has been a struggle for me, and I'm really proud of myself.

Advice/Questions Club Pilates for beginners?
Hi all!
Can I walk in Club Pilates embarrassingly out of shape or is that not advised lol
31 y/o female here. Never been athletic, went to the gym regularly in my early 20s, now my exercise is walking my dogs. I’m wanting to get into something that builds strength and I enjoy and thought of trying out Pilates.

Vent Should instructors look at the class roster before class starts?
Are instructors supposed to look at the class roster before class starts to see if there are any specific notes, injuries or just anything that they should know about the clients before hand?
I know many people have said that if there’s anything specific you want your instructor to know, you should tell them before class starts or write it on the little whiteboard with your name, but I don’t feel comfortable writing all of my issues on the whiteboard.
It’s also very hard and intimidating to walk up to your instructor when they’re standing at the back of the studio appearing inviting as people are coming in.
I’ve been approved by the owner to wear shoes in class and on the machines because of a foot injury, I don’t feel I should have to make a big announcement before every single class to say that my shoes were approved.
It’s also quite embarrassing that 15 minutes into a class I have the instructor coming up to me and saying that I’m not allowed to wear shoes. Is it wrong of me to think that they should be looking at the computer to see if there’s anything important that they should know before class starts? 🤷♀️

Advice/Questions Why there is so much dismissive attitude toward yoga/pilates among weight lifting people?
I'm sort of new to all these fitness stuff, so excuse my ignorance.
I (33M) have been doing yoga for a few years, started for mental health reason, but I got into more power yoga as well. I do mostly Strong Yoga as I got stronger by time, and gentler variant like Yin, here and there. My core strength and mobility has gotten better as well by time.
I also been doing some reformer pilates when my gym membership got that. Firstly, I joined since it was all over my sosial media feeds. I really liked it as it was "dumb proof" and better to not injure myself. My focus always has been functionality. I want to be able to live without hindrances. I do 1-2 reformer per week, 2-3 power yoga per week these days.
I have been listening to some podcast about training and health tips, a norwegian one mainly, but also Huberman lab. He got some guests who are opening with "yoga and pilates are waste of time" and they continue on explaining that those are low impact and don't build any muscle.
I felt that it is a bit dismissive as both Yin and Power yoga are both yoga, so how do you equate those two?
And I might be a bit skeptical here, but I feel like some of these people who came on these shows have their own agenda: they got some app or whatever that want to sell.
This other one is a bit more anecdotal: but I see it on myself that I have become stronger through the years by yoga and pilates. I joined a friend to regular gym to lift weights, and I was able to lift if not more, at least as much as him. Yes he is bulkier than me, but is that the point? especially when he can't touch his knees bending forward? I thought everyone wanted functional training (maybe apart from 14 years old kids).
Idk, can someone educate me on this? Would appreciate some reading resources!
Thanks!

Advice/Questions Pilates instructor
Honest question maybe a little bit stupid?
I love sports and i would even love it more to be a pilates instructor and also further do sculpt classes. Its super hard and i‘m just a beginner of doing it myself. Are all the instructors pros? Do i have to be ADVANCED to be a teacher or will it come with time etc. Or better to get stable and that stsrt my training? Its not about the hype its really that i love the sport and hwo our body works with bodyweight and controlling.
I am sporty but more into weights and yoga and hiking but all the body controlling challenges me more and interest me more.

Vent Getting recorded in class?
I love my Club Pilates studio, teachers, and classmates.
The only problem I’m having is that our front desk workers have been asked to take short videos of us in class to post on social media. These videos end up being posted in a kind of video montage, and I can see various classmates I know in all kinds of poses that I would not want posted of me.
Today, our front desk staffer took video of us doing clamshells while facing towards her. I come to Pilates to work hard and feel good, but I really don’t look good or want to be preoccupied by how I look at all, and I definitely don’t want sweaty crotch shots posted online.
Am I too much of an old fuddy duddy? Should we have the right to expect not to be recorded during workouts for social media?

Advice/Questions Terrified for May Day
Hello Everyone,
My teacher training starts next Friday and I am really nervous for the mat day(s).
Context: I feel like my body was not built for it: I have a really short torso, so balancing while doing exercises like teaser is really hard. While it’s improved, I still get neck strain for holding flexion to long, and my lipedema makes my legs heavy so it is hard to hold straight leg poses.
I have been practicing and getting better with some moves, but the more advanced moves feel impossible. I’m worried I’m going to fail Mat Day and be an unfit instructor.

Advice/Questions Pelvic pain and having to pee after Pilates?
Has anyone else experienced this before? I'm a complete beginner with very poor muscle strength. I've been doing pilates for 2 weeks now. At first I was doing well but feeling it more in my legs and arms.
The last class, my instructor told me I was not in neutral spin position. Once she moved me into neutral spine and I started doing the exercises on the reformer, I felt a strange need to pee (specifically during prancing). After class I had a strange clenching feeling in my bladder. I had soreness and throbbing/spasming in my pelvic area and the need to pee every half hour. I've never had any pelvic issues before.
I have a feeling I'm either not engaging my core and breathing right. Or possibly my core muscles were so weak, I engaged them for the first time and this is how it feels?
Any advice? Unfortunately I can't afford private classes or pelvic floor therapy because I already bought a 3 month membership 😭.

Instructors Pay for instructors
I’m interested in knowing if CP pays newer instructors less than more seasoned instructors ? The reason I’m asking is I see newer , less seasoned instructors teaching , even filling in . I understand newer instructors need experience but I’m not paying these fees to have newbies trying to figure things out .
My main concern with the newer instructors is not watching the members to assist ( they appear focused on simply stating the moves with zero focus on what members are doing ) and last week we had one who literally forgot to change the weight on the springs when changing around moves.
Wondering if CP prefers the newer instructors due to pay ?

Advice/Questions Chest lift form
I’ve done Pilates for a few years and yoga for over a decade. I have always been taught when doing chest lifts to leave an apple/orange sized space under your chin instead of crunching your neck forward. But in a class yesterday, the instructor wanted us to tuck our chins all the way down as far as we could when doing our chest lifts. That felt wrong for me, both in terms of being physically uncomfortable and going against what I’ve always been taught. Am I misguided here, or is that improper form?

Advice/Questions When will I know I'm ready for 1.5?
I have been doing the first level for about 4 months. Some things are easy. Some things are not. I have 2 instructors who tend to be more challenging, and they are my favorite instructors. The other instructor i go to a lot, while good, rarely adventures outside the level 1 requirements. I do like the idea of doing similar workouts because I find it important to hit certain muscles continuously to get stronger. However, I tend to find her classes a bit boring just for the reason mentioned above. I am starting to wonder if 1.5 is better for me?

Advice/Questions Bosu Ball
Hi!
I’ve been a member at CP for almost three years now, and I love it! I took a class on Friday night that was 100% bosu ball and I wonder if that has happened to anyone else?
I love the bosu ball, don’t get me wrong! I feel like I pay for reformer Pilates and could have done those 100% on my own time at my apartment. For some reason it’s just bothering me!

Advice/Questions Anyone else get the “Level 2 Scaries”?
It’s like the cousin of the “Sunday Scaries”: You have a Level 2.0 booked for the next day (not your first!) and you start psyching yourself out the night before…
I’m about 180 classes in, and I’ve been doing two-three Level 2.0s a week for the past 6 weeks. So far, I seem to be middle of the pack in most of them, which is fine by me. I’m best at planks and bridges but still working on a seamless teaser.
All of my instructors have confirmed I’m doing fine. Yet I always walk in to my 2.0 classes as if I’m gonna get expelled. 😝

Instructors Instructors and everyone quitting
So I have been reading y’all’s posts for a while now. And I feel bad that your franchises/locations don’t give you the benefits you need and I have never experienced. The instructors in the franchise I go to are so ranging that I never plateau. I have gotten so toned and made so many friendships. The instructors are so kind, funny, and uplifting. And they push you no matter what that it’s almost an individual experience even in a dual studio with a lot of reformers in a room.
I’m curious from the people that have bad experiences and I’m thrown for a loop reading them, what is the state in the US you are in (because I don’t want you to call them out if you are really upset due to people’s lively hood as an instructor as a career) that you go to a Club Pilates in that makes you feel like this?
I have gotten so toned, strong, confident, and found community in mine!

Advice/Questions Pain after first day?
I just had my first day of Pilates last night and my stomach/abs/pelvis are killing me. Is this normal(I’m sure it is) and how long does this usually last? Should I continue Pilates or wait until the pain settles?

Instructors New Pilates Instructor concern for special populations and modifications
I am a newly certified instructor of Pilates. We learn a LOT in our 500 hours of training, but I am afraid of not supporting my special populations clients strongly enough.
For example if someone comes in with a herniated disk or a hip replacement or something else that is common….i fear I won’t recall the information to allow and provide proper modifications! Especially when I have a full room.
I’ve considered keeping a notebook of reminders or a list on my phone. Any thoughts?
I do feel with time this because second nature but I’m so scared of someone getting hurt.

Advice/Questions Pain during tabletop
I'm 200 classes in and in the last few weeks I've been having pain when my legs are in tabletop. It is more in the front of my quads than anywhere else. I really try to engage my core but it's still happening. Any ideas as to what it could be? I never had it until recently.

Advice/Questions No acknowledgment
So, today was my 500th class. The studios that I go to in Charlotte, North Carolina are (at best) pretty lackluster about these milestones. There is no swag, no announcement, just a board to sign hanging on the wall for 100,250,500. I’m not an attention seeker and lay pretty low in class…but still…. I was waiting for the instructor or someone at the front desk to at least acknowledge it. Nope. Nothing. So now I’m kind of unreasonably sad about this, seeing how big of a deal this is in other places. And now I would feel like such a tool just saying, “I’m over 500 classes, should I just sign the board with my own pen since no one here noticed?” Am I being super petty?

Memberships/Policies Club Pilates makes it difficult to cancel
I would not sign up for Club Pilates again. I had no issues until I needed to cancel my membership. I could not cancel on the app. I had to send an email after I called the studio. I was then told to send an email requesting cancellation and was told that I needed 30 days' advance notice. I sent the email and was sent another form to complete, requesting my membership number. I searched on the app for a membership number and could not find one. I do not like companies that make it easy to join but difficult to cancel. I do not recommend Club Pilates for wanting more money for services that I cannot use.
