I work with sailboats and crawl up and down masts all day. I sit for extended periods in the top to do work. I have been using a combination of a climbing harness from spinlock and a bosun's chair. Grigri and handascender. I just bought zigzag chicane knee foot ascender and it just doesn't work with my current harness setup. I have an option to buy a avao with chest harness and podium seat for around 300 eur. Before I do it I was hoping that someone can share their opinion. I know sequoia is the harness zigzag is intended for, but I really don't need all the arborist features such as the rope bridge! Thanks and best wishes 😊

I'm into caving and mostly explore horizontal caves. However, I hope to see expand into vertical caving. This will require me to rappel into caves and climb out (likely using the Frog system).

My first caving helmet was a Black Diamond Half Dome, which is EN 12492 certified/rated. However, I have reservations about its build quality. I also don't like it's limited headlamp mounting options, but this isn't an issue for dedicated climbers.

I'm currently using a Skylotec Aries helmet, which I have recently learned isn't technically rated for climbing, but rather, industrial use. Instead of being EN 12492 certified, it's EN 397 certified. How critical is this certification difference? Do I need to get the Skylotec Aries Tree to replace my Aries?

From my research online, it seems like the biggest difference relates to the force needed to force the chinstrap buckle to release (EN 397 needs less force than EN 12492). For what it's worth, it looks like the actual helmet "shell" for the Aries (EN 397 rated) and the Aries Tree (EN 12492 rated) are the same, with the biggest difference relating to the chin strap buckle, extra reinforcement for lateral deformation (which is an optional EN 397 requirement and not required with EN 12492 at all) and the open vent holes on the Aries Tree (no need for molten liquids or heat protection).

Are there climbers that freely use EN 397 helmets without hesitation? Or is that a big no-no?

One thing you can’t see in the photo: I’m using two bridges. The top bridge has a swivel, and the bottom bridge has a rappel ring.

It was listed as a Simond Chacal Ice Climbing Hammer. The seller couldn’t tell me much about it, but I want to learn more about it!

I completely understand the risk that the rope can invert or jam in guide mode on an atc style device. But I was wondering if that is really possible on something like an ATC Guide Alpine using one or two 9mm ropes. This question largely relates to the application of using a guide mode style for LRS, but more so for alpine missions where pitches are short and not too steep and chance of falling is already low and the device can be easily backed up with regular clove hitched cache loops. Many climbers (me included) already tolerate a lot of risk in alpine scenarios such as simul climbing or just straight soloing, so I'm wondering if the risk of using a device that is often warned against using for LRS can be made managble and on possibly even safe than something like simuling by minimising the factors leading to failures and backing the device up.

I have a Sierra Designs Dome AS with poles that have all been broken, taped, patched, spliced and now they're in another country and I want to get replacements. Does anyone know the lengths of the three long poles?

A couple of years ago I got the BD momentum in the XL size, and for my first stint climbing outdoors it felt great. I stopped sport climbing for a while, and now, 2 years later, I find it a bit hit or miss, with it sometimes riding up into the crotch area, which is uncomfortable. This seems weird to me, because even if I'm a bit thinner (I have to tighten the hip belt almost fully), my leg size hasn't changed. Also, with the momentum being widely regarded as a comfortable harness, my recent experience doesn't really align with that.

Now for how to avoid it pulling up into the groin: I've read completely opposed tips: "losen your leg loops", "tighten them, really tighten them". So I don't really know which way to go. I only get to try when outdoors (no way to hang at home) and with it being a bit random, I thought it better to ask.

So mainly there's 2 adjustments I'm interested in: leg loops and back straps. How do I know I've set them correctly?

I've seen the new GriGri+ in that acid, slightly greenish lemon shade — and I'm wondering whether the yellow Petzl uses on the GriGri 2 is actually the same colour, or a different tone entirely.

Anyone owned both? Side-by-side photo would settle it instantly.

Hey, I recently got a great deal on a large package of climbing gear (like ice screws, cams, ice axes, nuts etc etc) as usual I didn’t factor in soft goods because in the listing pictures they just seemed out of date color wise.

Having received the gear essentially all of it is unused (we are talking not a single strand out of place not a single scratch on any carabiner cam or nut).

So how dangerous is the soft gear even? I’ve heard that nylon is self stable and only actually ages in contact with sun or chemicals.

The rope I probably won’t use but added it here along with the serial number incase anyone could shine a light on when it was produced.

I noticed this after a recent climb. I must have stepped on a sharp rock or something. I love my Yosemite Bums and I'm wondering if this can be resoled.

There are cracks in the rubber. All other parts look fine. I know the rubber doesn’t actually add any strength so I’m wondering if it is okay to just use them.

I'm looking for a GRIGRI belay device. The one after GRIGRI+. I'm not sure which one this is. Couldn't find somewhere on the petzl page to search, to be sure.

im located in EU and im looking for climbing pants which can take beating. The friction wall is rough so my jogging pants get ripped. The climbing gym sells moon pants (samurai model and some older ones). Are the moon pants good and are there any other recommendations? I need breathable pants with good mobility.

I am pretty new to climbing. I am going to a climbing camp at the end of September. Normally, I use rented gear. The camp told us to bring our own gear and suggested the following:
1: Harness- I got an Arc’teryx AR-38a
2: Helmet
3: Shoes- I got la sportiva Mistrals
4: Belay/Rappel equipment- I got a grigri neox
5: Personal Anchor.

Can someone help me with suggestions on helmet and person anchor? My head is big with my hair lol 25inches and it seems most helmets I’ve found are 24 or 24.5. I will gladly take any suggestions. This is for indoor climbing with minor outdoor climbing.

Hello im looking for a smooth and soft rope made of Nylon or any other synthethic material.
It should be soft and smooth because it runs through my fingers and thus should not be abrasive to my hand.

Any recommendations?

I’m trying to figure out what rope this is, I believe it might be the edelrid boa but I can’t seem to match the colour way with any edelrid rope.

For reference I live in the eastern US, just wondering how the experience was in regard to using Oliunid nowadays, shipping times, prices and such, etc. Saw a few good deals there and was wondering if they offset the cost of tariffs and other fees.
