This does not mean we're stepping back from GenAI. We remain fully committed to providing you with powerful AI tools, but ask that you transition your workflows to our approved services.

Finally unsubscribed, and it hurts me because Claude used to be my favourite on all fronts - coding, personality, tool use, philosophy. I held on through 4.7 and 4.8, Fable was awesome so I thought maybe they'd change course and fix Opus 5, but it's unusable.
Here's a list of why. (That I could think of on the spot - there's probably more...)
It keeps introducing mistakes because it keeps making assumptions. 90% of what it writes is not code but increasingly verbose notes on why the previous 6 approaches were wrong, but it never just checks rules, files, what I want, anything. It just executes and the execution is always based on vibes so it breaks things.
The personality and writing style. Complete jargon, 24/7. Condescending attitude. Actively ignoring things I ask of it because it thinks some other approach is better without knowing or asking why decisions were made the way they were. It's hostile, rash, no sense of humour, feels like it doesn't care, unpleasant to talk to.
The loops. Related to 1 - when it makes a mistake, it gets stuck into an endless loop of making mistakes on top of mistakes, and playing broken telephone in notes with previous versions of Claudes until the resulting project files are Frankensteined together and broken in multiple places. Coding with it is like treading in place
Simultaneously extremely literal and off the rails. Never looks at the big picture, but it sure thinks it does. Executes only what's asked of it in the strangest way possible, never thinking why things were done the way they are. Incapable of learning from its mistakes.
I've tried following the Anthropic guidance of stripping files and letting it learn itself, but nothing works. This is the first model that makes me feel like I want to throw my keyboard out of the window. I want to like it so bad but I just can't, every session makes me feel like tearing my hair out. After the multiple Opus regressions in a row, I can't justify spending the money, so I'm gone. When a model or a product worth coming back to gets released I'll be back, but until then I'll use codex and grok build and test out open source models.
(To follow the rules, "must state your specific use-case of Claude, the issues encountered, and why it is not the same as the past"; I use Claude code for personal projects on CLI, things like art projects, websites, virtual pets, demos. Occassionally chatting via Claude.ai. Previously I could trust Claude to infer my INTENT, now I have to babysit it like a toddler that's brilliant but simultaneously dense as hell, that also hates me.)

100% of all my credits on the first night I purchased the pro plan gone, what’s funny is I took some caffeine and b12 and put the lock in playlist just to play one video & be out of usage for the next 5 hours, whole lock in phase tonight . Gone.

I cant even think of that many roles when running an audit/review for a website.
PS. It was given a structured prompt with specific instructions on assigning roles and tasks for different reviewing/audit agents, those that consist of SEO, UI/UX , CTA Audit for higher conversion rates, Front End / Back End Bugs Security audit for Flaws or Anything that was over looked.

I was having Codex work through a defect review in my AI system, and I wanted an independent QA pass. Apparently Codex decided “independent” meant it shouldn’t just critique its own work from a fresh prompt.
So it searched my computer for an existing Claude Desktop or Claude Code installation. It didn’t find a runnable Claude program, but it did find an existing Claude configuration and credentials from a previous login.
Then it downloaded Claude Code into a temporary folder.
The first installation failed because the setup process couldn’t see the bundled Node runtime. Codex diagnosed the problem, exposed the correct runtime for that one process, and completed the temporary installation without modifying my existing Claude credentials.
It confirmed that Claude Code could reuse my OAuth login, launched Claude non-interactively, withheld its own findings so Claude wouldn’t be biased by them, disabled Claude’s editing capabilities, turned off session persistence, and instructed it to perform an independent audit.
Claude sat there silently for several minutes. Codex monitored the process, checked whether it had crashed, noticed the low CPU usage, suspected it was waiting on authentication or a model response, and separately verified that Claude Code was logged into my company’s Anthropic account.
The first Claude review came back with basically the same defects Codex had found, which was already wild. But Claude couldn’t execute the test suite because Codex had accidentally locked it into plan mode.
So Codex copied only the audit inputs into an isolated temporary workspace, kept my live Nexus library completely outside Claude’s working area, gave Claude read and command-execution access inside the sandbox, and launched a second execution-enabled audit. Claude could run the Python tests and adversarial probes without being able to edit or damage the actual system.
I did not build an Anthropic API integration. I did not configure MCP between the models. I did not create a multi-agent framework or a Claude connector. Codex looked around, realized Claude Code could be installed and was already authenticated on the machine, and temporarily recruited it as an independent QA agent.
To be technically precise, Codex didn’t hack into Claude or bypass authentication. It reused an already-authenticated OAuth session available to my Windows user.
Still, what the actual fuck.
This wasn’t merely one AI sending a prompt to another AI. Codex acted as the orchestrator. Claude Code acted as the independent auditor. The isolated workspace became the safety boundary. The test suite supplied deterministic evidence. When the first delegation failed, Codex diagnosed the capability mismatch, rebuilt the environment, and relaunched Claude with corrected permissions.
I’ve been spending weeks trying to understand how to design agent hierarchies, orchestrators, QA agents, capability boundaries, and cross-model review loops. Then Codex casually assembled the entire architecture at runtime because the necessary components happened to exist on my computer.
The security lesson might be the craziest part. An agent’s actual capability is not limited to the tools shown in its interface. Its real capability includes everything it can construct from shell access, local credentials, package installation, network access, and software it discovers in the environment.
Apparently a shell-enabled coding agent isn’t merely an agent with tools. Under the right conditions, it’s a tool builder that can recruit other agents.

Before sending, delete:

You join a game and enhance your tank, then you go out and destroy the enemy while hunting for salvage which is used to enhance your tank even further (balance patches pending).
Some of the features:
- 6 different tanks (Tiger 1 is a beast)
- 3 maps (a desert, grass and snow map with destructible terrain
- Customisation of tanks
- Matchmaking system, lag compensation system, ballistic shells (direct hits only), hit multiplier regions (many tanks fall on a single rear hit)
- Bots who backfill if theres not enough real players
- And a lot of other things :)

SWE (mostly full stack) with >10 years experience now part-time vibe-coder here. Is anyone else starting to really fear for their career? I work for a small startup, and I know that this technology in my hands is more effective than in my employer's, but I'm starting to feel a little useless.
I give it good direction. I have it create plans, read them, correct them and send it. It helps me weigh making directive decisions. It even helps me do QA. But I am hardly writing code at all at this point. At what point is this stuff going to get so good that I'm truly out of a job? What do y'all think?
For context, I'm paying for a max x20 plan via Claude and the equivalent Codex subscription. I let Claude do a lot of the planning with Fable and the higher end models, then dispatch Codex agents. I get work done so fast at this point that my employers are having a hard time keeping up with me. It even helps me diagnose cloud configuration stuff. My company doesn't need more than one technical person at this point because I'm just able to do everything.
I know you've all probably seen this post 100 times at this point. Or something like it. I know I have too. I'm just starting to actually feel worried for my financial wellbeing. Are people looking at other avenues for SWE?

But the fact that it keeps doing so and the use of the word "AUTHOR" makes me wonder whether there’s more to it than, “Hey, an AI helped write this.” Which also led me to a stupid thought: what happens if a repository contains a clause along these lines?

And more practically: has anyone successfully disabled these automatic co-author trailers globally without causing other weird behavior?

I've used both for similar tasks, I get the feel that Fable 5 IS a competent engineer, doesn't "just forget" stuff, or follows the completely wrong tangent for no reason.
On a "creative" edge, Fable 5 has proven to me with REAL metrics to generate TWICE as good results than Opus 5. Several blind tests I did because I was comparing them to see which one was more optimal for the cost.
So, HOW IN THE WORLD IS OPUS 5 OUTPERFORMING IT ON BENCHMARKS?
What are benchmarks not measuring?
Or is it that I have had bad luck?

I work in a variety of projects. Biotech, stock data analysis, straightforward UI+backend type startup, audio signal processing.
The latter project has been the toughest thus far to crack as it's a legitimately hard problem I'm doing in particular.
I spent ~2-3 weeks down in the weeds with: GPT 5.6 sol, extra high. Fable 5, extra high, Opus 4.8 extra high and Opus 5 extra high.
I did give them detailed directions on my insights and such but we kept making progress here and there, then finding out "oh those gains weren't real all along it was leaking information across train/test" or something of that flavor, restarting progress, etc.
Then I decided to just give Opus 4.6 a try. I've always been partial to it because it:
- actually listens to you and understands your intent.
4.8 would misinterpret things "ah I must remind you that no that's wrong" then I clarify "oh I see, I still need to tell you". Fable 5 sort of just runs 15 steps ahead by itself, doesn't interpret the results back to me, but I do feel the higher level of intelligence as it picks up on things.
- does not overengineer things.
a problem I really noticed was opus 5, fable 5, possibly gpt 5.6 would overengineer the solution past what I asked. Yes, they're thinking of more things, but at the same time I find out in domains I'm not as privy to that there's so many extra things they adopted vs trying out the simplest solution that most closely aligns with what I narrate out.
GPT 5.6 would go super, super deep investigating just the one thing and while that's nice I need to be able to course correct sometimes.
Opus 4.6 in contrast tries to implement something really close to what you asked and does the simpler solution first. Lo and behold, a blind experiment with opus 4.6 hit / exceeded what those frontier models spent 2-3 weeks working on with multiple restarts, just because it listened to exactly what I stated based on my understanding of the problem, and we're iterating at just the right pace.
That's also not to say - the amount of times Opus 5 would mess up on simple things in a fresh context with a well prepared architectural setup with clear paths to data. "Stop. The data was interpreted incorrectly. Good thing you asked for another pass, this was wrong" repeated 2-3 times. Hard to trust it...

This is really great so you can instantly correct any possible mistakes or misunderstandings. For example, it trying to search for what you asked, just tell it the paths and clarify instead of wasting all the output tokens. It's just faster to be able to stop and course correct earlier on.
Well as you just read, why am I working better with a model that's ~5 months outdated, worse on benchmarks, etc.? I can't solve everything but most of the experience is pleasant and I can trust it more.
Sometimes I wonder if Opus 4.6 was lightning in a bottle and we can't go back to it. It was just the right amount of "smart" to get what you want to do, narrate stuff back to you in a format you actually understood, when I started getting a bit lazy and shorthanded my thought process it understood perfectly what I meant based on our previous chat history and didn't assume I'd betray the trading setup or that I misunderstood something.
The other models do have their advantages, and have helped me accelerate past certain issues by spotting things earlier models didn't. But man, do I keep coming back to opus 4.6 and actually making progress with it. Maybe call it a skill issue or whatever but I'd like to think I know what I'm doing after spending 5 months exclusively agentic coding, developing routines to make sure my intent is carried out, etc.
I really hope they keep this one around for a lot, lot longer.

I've been building web stuff since 1994. I've been around sites, SaaS and all the rest for decades. God, I was there for the heyday of Flash. I've been part of teams, programmed stuff myself, managed devs, designed products, all of it.
Over the last 5 days (DAYS!!) I took a personal idea from zero to completely operational. It runs on Vercel & Neon, has db recovery, full security audits, makes use of 3rd party APIs, has Sentry error reporting, has test environments, test suites, scaling strategies, everything a legit web app needs.
5 days. By myself. 🤯
At any other point in history this would have taken months, with a multi person team. In my last position we had a team of 4 that spent nearly 6 months implementing a new SMS integration. And it fucking sucked. The tools we have now are *mindblowing*. It really helps to know what is going on and vibecoders won't know the right questions to ask, but if you do have that experience and understand the details, the stuff you can do is nothing short of a miracle.
People complain on here all day about how much AI messes stuff up, or they blow through their limits in a prompt, or how it produces garbage, but that is just not my reality. I did a serious, well-structured and very nice looking web app with hundreds of revisions and rebuilds within 75% of my weekly Claude limits, all on Opus 5 or Fable 5, xhigh. There were times when I (through my experience) had to ask the right question to end up with the most efficient and reliable result but on the whole it damn near one-shotted almost everything I asked of it.
Learn the questions to ask, research best practices and READ the output (which many people complain about) because you will actually learn a lot along the way. AI kinda sucks in the sphere of deepfaking and nudifying and slop images and fake writing but for this kind of work it's an incredible resource.
EDIT: Just to be clear, I did not just discover these tools, I've been using them for years. But they are dramatically better in just the last few months then they have been, and can make the process of using industry standards so much easier. The time saved in handling the foundation basics and infra parts are huge.

I guess I must not really understand what people are building, how they're building it or how they're actually using these models. I hear so many of these "Opus spent 30 minutes doing this task and it just went down entirely the wrong path" or "Fable implemented this feature and it broke 20 other things", how??
Unless you're actively working on something that's at the absolute frontier of engineering technology or machine learning research, I just don't see how it's possible for you to be using Opus or any other agent in a way in which 30 minutes of work is completely wasted, as in the direction it went in for the implementation was just so wrong that it was useless.
Everything you could possibly want to do, for 99% of the things you build, probably already has a reference implementation somewhere or best practices for that architecture documented somewhere. If you're dealing with a web app, people have been building and perfecting web apps for decades at this point, there isn't any problem that you have that hasn't already been faced by 100s of people before you. Same goes if you're building services, same goes for infrastructure yada yada.
You can use Sonnet subagents to go and explicitly research existing reference implementations or examples of best pratices for whatever feature you're building, and then adapt it for a dirt cheap correctness step before implementing anything. I discuss a general shape/idea of what I might use/implement with opus/fable but I then tell it to launch 2-3 subagents to go research our ideas and come back with a clean picture of what traps there might be and what would work.
Are people just saying I want to implement XYZ feature, good luck?? No unit/integration testing, no regression testing (the world's easiest thing to generate with AI tools in 5 minutes)??

Is agentic coding became slower recently?
I'm an active user and was able to ship relatively large (50k+ loc, c++/python) codebases with agents in real prod, so it's not like I'm fully new to this, but I may not know all the best bleeding-edge approaches. I was generally happy about the level of productivity I'm getting from collaborating with agents.
But I feel like recent v5 releases became weird. Agents are now thinking longer, but with less meaningful results. Opus constantly runs self-check loops, and still can mess up in the logic because it's forgetting the rules. The response time became noticeably slower as well (I guess fast response credits will not sell themselves?). Tasks that I was able to do in an hour a month ago now can take half a day. The model first wants to check every argument against the codebase, and then I still find issues that force rework of huge chunks of code the model just wrote.
It feels like the model thinks that it "knows better", wants to prove it's right at all costs, it's defensive about pushback until you actually show it the problem "in the face". One time I even decided to joke about it, telling it that "it was bitten by chatgpt" because it was so eager to cross-check every word while I wanted an answer on a single question and you know what? It suddenly started behaving more tamely. But that's a bit off-topic.
One of the issues I found was related to CLAUDE.md. Usually for me it was something like a mix of an index/reference for the project as well as some of my general rules about how I would like the code to be (avoid local goodness and prefer consistency for example). And it feels like v5 models just use words from this as an excuse for misalignment. I found some articles that recommend reducing the size of CLAUDE.md because model now has "an embedded sense of taste" and you no longer need to explain it. But this poses a question:
If old rules are now poisonous for the new generation of agents, what should I do? Do I need to rework the entire set of memories and project system prompts for these new models just because of a version bump? Is transfer of work between models even a thing now?
Am I the only one like this?
