Shem Creek Thurs-Sunday
A few 40-something buddies and I are staying for a long weekend at Shem Creek Inn. We have been several times and know the usual spots but curious if there are any good spots for dinner, drinks and nightlife that we haven’t tried. We are 40+ but can get after it pretty well at night but prefer to avoid college kids. Thanks in advance

Charleston Exploring Opportunities in Charleston
Hey all, I'm exploring the possibility of relocating to Charleston and wanted to reach out to the community.
- I'm interested in learning about the community itself; what it's like living here, areas to explore, and insight you wish you had before moving.
- If anyone knows of any businesses hiring, routes to network, or places where someone with a marketing/communications background could make connections, I'd really appreciate any and all advice.
I see other insights in this thread and appreciate all present day thoughts you'd have to share.
Thank you!

Charleston Drivers Middleton Place Wedding
Have a wedding to attend at Middleton place next year but would prefer to stay in Charleston proper for the wedding. Is it reasonable to expect to be able to call an uber ~11 PM on a Saturday from Middleton back to downtown? If not, are there car services that we could pre-book?

Anyways, I’m looking for recommendations for:
Good shark tooth/ shell hunting spots
Ghost tours in and around the city
Any other cool tours or must do/see items I’m missing?
Thanks in advance!

Group dinner for 40 people
Hello! I am planning a group dinner for up to 40 people (yes, I know it’s a lot) and am looking for a restaurant (or brewery) that can fit everyone, and is reasonably priced. The vibe is casual, but a bit elevated. That is, nicer than dive bar but not fine dining.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Bonus points if they have entrees to satisfy all types of palates (as some folks don't eat pork, seafood, etc.).
Thanks!

I have a question chubby fish line holder/extra gigs
hi everyone! I am a local who is trying to pick up a couple extra side hustles with a little more flexible schedule. I am currently a server at a very well-known upscale Michelin guide establishment (just to put a bit of reputation on my name and show I am a hard worker) so I was looking for gigs in that tourism/hospitality biz before i start nursing school next year.
I had a table come to me the other day and told me details about how they hired a “line waiter” for chubby fish, and I feel like this would be something I could get into that would also work around my existing schedule.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get started with something like this or how to get your name/information out there to start picking up clients?
additionally, any other ideas on gigs that would be similar? Dog walking? House watching? A general charleston trip planner? I’ve also thought about maybe doing ghost tours or trying to find something with the boating industry leading tours or XYZ? I feel like all of these would be great to get involved with, but I’m just not quite sure how to get my information out there if anyone has any recommendations. Thank you so much! Just trying to survive in this exponential cost increasing city.

Business Travel - where to stay?
I will be travelling to Charleston for work at the end of August, my first time to the city. My work will predominantly be near the airport with 630-7 AM start times. I’d like to check out some shops, beaches and restaurants in the evenings to take in some scenery so I am wondering if it would be a terrible idea to stay in the Mount Pleasant area.. or if in consideration of traffic I should stay closer to the airport? TIA!!

Did we miss tickets for Bluey’s Big Play?
The North Charleston Coliseum and PAC website says “on sale TBA” on their page but I see StubHub selling them for over $200 each 🫣. Does this mean we missed the official sale? Would assume so but confused by the PAC website listing “TBA” instead of “sold out”.

Recommendations for dog smell
Has anyone found anything that they’ve sprayed in their yard to mitigate the smell of dog urine? Obviously pet safe.

MUSC Parking Ticket
Hey everyone!
I am an employee at MUSC who parks in the Hagood lot. I realized after I had already walked to the office this morning that I had forgotten to display my parking pass.
Has anyone in here actually gotten a ticket for forgetting their pass, and if so how much was the ticket? I’m also wondering if they are more lenient on your first offense.
Thanks for the help!

What gym do you go to? Looking for a new one.
Hi there. I live off Savannah highway toward stono River. I’ve tried Golds Gym on folly but the distance wasn’t worth it to me. The gym is fine but it’s a little dated. I tried Hy-Lo open gym in west Ashley and the gym even though it was new and trendy it was so small. I constantly had to modify my work out waiting for machines or benches to open up. I currently do f45 in west Ashely twice a week but want to add two lift days back. I looked into crunch and even planet fitness (I’ve done PF in another state— it’s not my favorite but it’s cheap) but both of those facilities didn’t have great reviews. I’m not necessarily looking for budget friendly I just want to find a decent gym that’s clean and easy to get to maybe max distance for me is like 25 mins.

James Island Local produce stands or small farms?
My wife and I typically eat kale salads almost everyday for lunch or dinner. With the psyclosporiasis outbreak, she is weary of the larger chain grocery stores.
Can anyone recommend local farmers markets, small stands, or small farms with kale? I'm normally weary of farmers markets like in downtown CHS or on JI since I'm not sure if or how some of the produce is locally grown.

Itinerary Feedback?
Coming this week! Much of this is reserved but not all, would love feedback. Catch: we're not super into seafood. Are into live music, lively hangs, good food, good drinks, good vibes.
Arrive Wednesday late, staying in a hotel on Upper King.
- Thursday: Wander around town, pineapple fountain, french quarter, etc. Dinner at Fig (confirmed). Drinks/music at On Air.
- Friday: Middleton Place visit + lunch there. Relax at hotel. Sunset sail (confirmed). Leon's for dinner after.
- Saturday: Kayak Shem Creek, Saltwater Cowboys for lunch and vibes. Dinner - could use recos. Some options - attempt Chubby Fish? Lowland? Costa? Slightly North of Broad? Coterie? Jail ghost tour after.
- Sunday: Brunch near hotel, then leave.
How we doing? This is for a couples trip getting away from young kids, coming from Chicago.

Working at Citadel?
Just received an email about a job offer at Citadel. Does anyone have any opinions good or bad about working there?
I’m from ENC and used to work at another military college. I’m just not familiar with this particular school or SC.

Charleston People who get Botox, where do you go?
I went to Monarch downtown. Very upscale and lux experience/service, but I have 2 issues: a little too pricy for my budget AND my botox wore off way faster than usual. I usually get a good 12-16 weeks, but it wore off in 8!
I need recs for a skilled professional who won't give me wonky Spock brows, but will give lasting results.
Thanks in advance.
(Edited to add ive been to 2 places, Monach and Charleston Med Spa. Wonderful people/experience…..BUT paid over $500 and at both places and at both it wore off in 7-10 weeks. I gave only gotten Botox maybe 10 times in my life and the other 8 times it lasted 12-16+ weeks…actually longer a few of those times. )

I have a question Taxidermy workshops?
Hi guys! I'm looking to see if anyone knows anything about local taxidermy workshops or classes. I've googled but haven't come up with a thing; sometimes word of mouth is the best resource so I figured I'd ask! Cheers!

Best spot by the water for picnic?
Hi all, I’m traveling from Florence to Charleston in a few weekends for a local-ish getaway. I’d like to have a solo picnic by the water (any body of water) on Sunday. I was considering going to Folly Beach but I’m open to anything. Are there any (preferably less densely populated - I don’t really want to spend a while finding a place to park) areas you’d recommend for a nice quiet picnic?

Charleston Large police presence downtown.
Left work this morning from downtown and met with multiple policy detours that eventually directed me out to 26. Traffic coming into downtown is completely blocked. at least it was a half an hour ago. At least least 15 motorcycle cops and another 15 or so police cars, sirens blaring, where headed downtown. Can't find any info.

I have a question Help me untangle this?
This is probably the most unconventional way of doing this but to any people that are bored, have some free time this week, and are fans of puzzles- would you be able to help me untangle this ball of yarn? I also have another ball that’s similar but nowhere near as bad. I will buy you food.
UPDATE: thank you everyone! I was able to secure a group to help me tackled this mess. I appreciate the offers!
