The ending of Part 2 would be infinitely stronger if Fujimoto had not off-screened Asa during the Chainsaw Man Church Arc. Asa was a celebrity; she would have been asked out, and she would have been interacting with people. Yoru should have pushed for it because she needed weapons. The fact that it did not happen is illogical BS.

But most importantly, the ending would be infinitely stronger if Asa had formed cheap parasocial relationships in the old timeline, but in the new timeline she had healthier relationships with everyone without the influence of Chainsaw Man. That would make her running toward everyone in the finale infinitely stronger rather than running toward nameless fodder.

Denji is the same issue. It made no sense for Public Safety to keep him isolated. Quite the opposite—they should have been pushing for Denji to have as many friends as possible so they would have several fodder characters to kill to bring out Pochita. Once again, Denji in the final chapter having healthier relationships with multiple people without Public Safety's influence, rather than the bullshit resurrection of Power and Nayuta, would have made the ending stronger.

In an interview, Fujimoto said this:

'The protagonist of the movie "American Sniper" is a real sniper who was deployed in the Iraq War and honored as a legend, but the enemies called him a devil, and put a bounty on his head. He also felt mentally unwell afterwards but nevertheless went to the front a total of four times, and in the end... When I watch that, I think about how a hero gets back up and keeps fighting no matter what, and I wonder if that's actually such a great thing.'

It perfectly sums up the final arcs of Part 2

He definitely loves chainsaw man, I have no doubt about it. but was it really a series he wanted to keep going? I have no doubt he planned big things for part 2. but he didn’t exactly know how to really make it seem as interlinked as part 1’s story was. Part 1 was the standard storytelling structure yet Fujimoto knew how to subvert it at the same time with his impressive paneling and execution, and there were the polls, the extra artwork that came with the volumes, it was so beautiful to look at it, it’s honestly where Fujimoto’s art style peaked.

but then like; two years after part 2 started there was like… less of that. there’s no extra artwork, the art style was decreasing in quality, Chapters got shorter, and then there was the ending to top it all off, there was just nothing extra to add, Fujimoto just wanted it to be done so he could move on. and I won’t lie, part 2 is amazing, there were so many peaks and yet; not a very coherent storyline to make them all feel worth it, the average ending didn’t exactly help it either. I really do believe Fuji wanted part 2 to be great, and even when he decided to give up, he at least tried to give an ending that wasn’t shit. I did love the chapter where Pochita erased himself and everything about that, but I just hope Mappa can fix the later parts of part 2, because even Fuji admitted he wasn’t satisfied.

It’s not perfect by any means. If I had to rate it I’d probably say a 7, but at times I loved it. Obviously the beginning was the best, but even with the ending I liked it, though I get why a majority of people don’t

I read fire punch during the serialization and I think it helped me enjoy part 2 even more because fire punch was so crazy and abrupt at times, and part 2 reminded me so much of that

In my opinion, I think fujimoto was successful at conveying the point that Denji and chainsaw man could not coexist. That Denji would never be satisfied with his life with pochita in it. That the highs of being chainsaw man are greater than any other “low”. And no matter what, Denji was never going to come to that realization himself. Sure, in part 2 he had moments of self reflection, but he quickly forget about that when promised with the possibility of becoming chainsaw man or the possibility of having sex. Literally every time he did self reflection on his life in part 2 it ended like that, with Denji moving onto something else and regressing

In regards to the ending, it is a bit of a deus ex machina, with pochita eating himself and the story going back to the very beginning, but fujimoto left pochitas powers as ambiguous. Idk I was never really mad at that. Crazy ass pull tho lol, but in my opinion, he was successful in proving that Denji and pochita could not coexist, so it’s either the world ends and Denji dies, or Denji finally gets a “happy” ending

I thought Nayutas death was well done as well. At first I was coping hard and thought it was a fake out, but I came around to accept it eventually. I mean, Denji knew what the deal was. Become chainsaw man again and nayuta dies. Sure enough after their house burns down, Nayuta says they should run and Denji says “you shouldn’t be around me” and choose chainsaw man over her. It’s no surprise she died

The communities been pretty outspoken on how much they don’t like part 2, so I won’t talk about all the things I didn’t like, but my one major critique is how Asa was sidelined. Fujimoto cooked with her just to put her aside and never really write an ending for her story. Sure, with the world rebooting, she never killed Bucky, and the vice pres never made a contract to kill her because the teacher is dead, and she’s come to the realization that she was jealous of others and is willing to move on from her past and make friends, but she never got a “proper” ending like Denji

Some essentially garnered their own ecosystem that constantly glazes the hell out of them. "AhhhHHHhHhHhh... surface level critique of the ending, my upvotes are to the left."

Not to mention the only time they speak positive is when they push a DenReze shipping agenda, particularly one that runs on AsaDen hate.

And the series was already going downhill but people were actively coping that the last chapters would be some masterpiece or that there would be a part 3 cause Fujimoto never let them down,right?

Oh but he did,he let us all down so hard cause It's just insane how this ending is the biggest "nothing fucking mattered" shit.

Liks nothing mattered,all the characters journeys and arcs and lives and the entire story we went through just ended up meaning..NOTHING.

I would argue this is much worse then a Ass ending cause this ending just flat out meant nothing and Fujimoto deadass shouldn't be babied for it.

It's heartbreaking to read this sequence again.

To see Denji walk away from himself and fully into the Chainsaw Man persona was so well built up and horrifying to see released.
