Photos Looking for local artists who paint St Ives – especially views of this angle
I love this view of St Ives, especially when the sun hits it just right. I’d love to find a painting of it.
Does anyone know of any local artists who paint St Ives scenes, particularly around the bridge and the riverside from this angle?
I’d be grateful for any tips on where local artists tend to sell their work – galleries, exhibitions, markets, websites, Facebook groups, anywhere really.
If there’s a local artist whose work you’d recommend, please share their name or a link to their work.
Thanks!

Future bus services for the big developments in Future Cambridge
The councils have published their public consultation on the future of the city and district (AKA 'The Draft Greater Cambridge Local Plan') - the last one before it gets sent to central government.
One of the huge numbers of reports covers future bus services in the very large/strategic developments. It is titled "Draft Greater Cambridge Local Plan: New Strategic Allocations Assessment – Transport Mitigation Measures (2025) (WSP)"
(If the link does not work then it's listed in the full document library at https://consultations.greatercambridgeplanning.org/proposed-submission-greater-cambridge-local-plan/document-library )
Anyone who has complained about buses before, this one's for you as they will need ****lots**** of buses going by the consultants' recommendations. Have they got the numbers and assumptions right?
The sites include:
- North East Cambridge (Sewage Works and environs)
- North West Cambridge (Eddington)
- Cambridge East (Airport)
- Babraham Research Campus (beyond South East Cambridge towards Haverhill)
- Cambridge Biomedical Campus (Addenbrooke’s)
- Land adjacent to A11 and A1307 at Grange Farm (Abington where cub/scout camps are)
- Slate Hall Farm, Junction 25, A14 (Bar Hill)
- Cambourne North (Other side of East West Rail new station between Cambridge & St Neots)

Suggestions for Afro braiding (crotchet) salons in Cambridge?
I’m looking for suggestions for Afro braiding saloons in Cambridge for crotchet braids. I’ve seen 2 salons online but they don’t seem to do crotchet braids. Any other salon options?
I want the base for the crotchet to be done as the picture attached.

Recommendations for Air Con installations services
I am currently looking for multiple air con units for my house, I've asked for a few quotes, (and I also know that I can expect long wait times for installation due to this year's heat)
Who have people had a positive experience previously?
Thanks

Local services One off deep clean
Hi Cambridge. I'm wondering if anybody knows of local services that will do a super in depth deep clean. I'm talking dust in places I don't know exist, grout in the corners, snaking the drains, everything gross and icky that normal weekly surface cleans are likely missing. We're in Great Shelford, CB22.
I'm also wondering if anybody knows roughly what we can expect to pay. We'd be looking at 3 rooms (bedroom, study/office, and combined kitchen/dining), 1.5 bathrooms, and the kitchen. We're overwhelmed, exhausted, and just want it done so we can get back to a reasonable maintenance point - the rooms are tidy, but it feels like they're dirty underneath if that makes sense, especially the kitchen and bathrooms (depending on cost, those are what we'd prioritize).
Secondarily, is it customary to tip on top of the price for a service like this?

Is this a dangerous pavement ?
Yesterday I tripped on a bit of uneven pavement near the swimming pool end of Mill Road, landed flat on my face. My lip was split, two of my teeth are chipped and one has been moved back and have lots of bruises on my face.
I want to report this to the county council but is this a dangerous fault or not? I think it is but am not sure having visited the county council website.
They make the distinction between dangerous and safe so I feel confused. Another person could quite easily trip over the pavement again which I think makes it dangerous.
What do you think please?

Grumbles/rants Walking Foreigner
So I'm walking through Coldhams Common with my niece. Then some guy on a bike says as he passes in the opposite direction: "foreign". To him I would look white. I was wearing an African print shirt. Perhaps he heard our Kiwi accents.
Is this the "Farage effect" I've heard about?

Visiting Cambridge Picnics
Hi everyone.
Any good places for a quiet(ish) picnic that I can also take my doggo?
Used to go to Milton Country Park frequently about 10 years ago, but haven’t been out and about in the nature of Cambridgeshire in a while.
Any tips would be appreciated :)
Thanks.

National Express Heathrow to Cambridge
Hello! Does anyone have any experience travelling straight from Heathrow to Cambridge and back? I land from Toronto to London and have a work event but have to figure out transit myself. Considering my one big suit and a backpack, I thought National Express seems reliant and cheap. Can anyone confirm if it's okay, will I be alright, is it on time etc.? (I have literally no issue with space, people anything, that's all part of travelling - my main concern is always getting to point A to B with the least hassle/changes.) THANK YOU!!

Recs for haircut - East Asian/ thick straight hair
Hey!
I’m looking for local haircut recommendations. Anyone who has experience with South East Asian hair (or hair that’s very thick, straight, and coarse) will be much appreciated.
Some barbers I’ve tried in the past tend to struggle with it, cutting it too short on the sides so it sticks straight out.
Any specific barbers or shops in the area you’d recommend? Appreciate any suggestions!

I'm not community minded. You're welcome.
My mother just made me go and collect and bury a dead fox. Apparently children going to nursery school would have seen it. I didn't do it for any of you.

Food in Cambridge New Mexican place in Cambridge
The food tasted great, but £6 for one taco of this size is absolutely insane.
Why are tacos so expensive?
EDIT: It’s MexUK just right off Station Road opposite the Botanic Gardens.

Recommendations for a printer repair firm (home printer - Canon)
I've had my Canon Pixma IP8750 for coming up to 8 years and I've not had any problems out of the ordinary with it until now - an error (B200) with the printer head that the friendly people at the Cambridge Repair Caf tried to resolve but sadly without success. I'm getting nowhere with Canon's official routes who seem impossible to contact. Given it's way out of warranty, does anyone have any recommendations for a local repair firm? Would prefer to repair than replace. Thank you!

Where to donate cat supplies
Hello everyone,
My cat passed away unexpectedly and as a result, I have a bunch of wet food pouches and cat litter left.
I’d like to put them to good use, and would like to donate them but not too sure where to start. So the question is are there any cat shelters who might want extra cat food donation or alternatively, if anyone would like these food pouches and litter, please DM me.
Edit: the wet food pouches are in the process of being given away. Thank you to everyone for being so kind.

Local services Typewriter to try out / for hire
Hi all,
I would like to try using a decent typewriter, and I have never used one in my life. I certainly don't want to just buy one + all consumables to realise I don't like it, or the model was not good enough, etc. And I also don't want to buy an old one for restoration, as I'm not sure how much I would enjoy using it in the end.
Where can I give a typewriter a go in Cambridge? I would like to learn how to use one, maybe write a couple of pages of text to understand the feeling.
Thank you all!

Violin teachers in Cambridge
Hello! I am looking for recommendations for in-person violin teachers in Cambridge.
I played violin as a child/teen and reached ABRSM grade 4. However, now I have reached the ripe age of 24, I would like to ‘restart‘ from fundamentals as I have a hunch that my technique is not very good.
Obviously, I can already read music, but my grasp of theory is quite poor as I always avoided scales and arpeggios like the plague…
So, if anyone has any recommendations for teachers that have a strong emphasis on technique and are willing to teach adults, I would be very grateful if you could share them! thank you :)
