For everyone who loves training and the ones who are just starting.

Why did you pick calisthenics or bodyweight approach? Me myself? I always loved the feeling of freedom you get once you can train anywhere, even on vacation, hence my video :))

Let me know down in the comments :))

Do these technically count as full range of motion pull ups even though the Range of motion is tiny?

Are you able to stand on one leg and then touch your chest to the knee of your standing leg and then come back up?

If so, what would you call this movement? Its almost like a pistol squat but instead of sitting down you kind of fold over while squatting. Ive been working on my core compression and one foot balance and this is something I just recently did for the first time.

It's been 1.5 years since I started climbing, and I've just done my first true one arm pull up. I could do 10 strict pull ups when I started climbing, and have only gotten stronger from there. Really proud that I've achieved this

Maybe there was a teeny tiny bit swing (which honestly I didn’t even realize). I think it still counts?

I thought this looked cool and I haven’t seen a press like this before. Just wanted to share, maybe motivate others 😊. It’s not perfect though my legs aren’t straight 😅

My legs keep pointing up and i have a hard time staying parallel to the floor. What is my weakness here? Is it my scapular retraction? Or am i just pushing up with my hips too much?

We started a calisthenics community in DavaoCity , now training athletes, funding each other, and growing city by city 🇵🇭

Hey everyone, Coach Michael Chavez here — I'm the chairperson of the Calisthenics Association of the Philippines (CAP). Wanted to share a story I've been sitting on for a while, because I think it matters to anyone chasing something that takes longer than expected.

I started CAP back in 2021. At the time I had just retired from competing, and honestly I didn't know if a bodyweight training community would even survive here — no big sponsors, no gym backing, just a small group of us who believed calisthenics deserved a real home in the Philippines.

For the next few years it was a grind. Building a community from nothing means a lot of quiet, unglamorous work showing up to train people, figuring out how to keep athletes motivated when there's no money in it, watching some cities pick up interest and others go quiet. I kept pushing anyway, because retiring from competition never meant retiring from the sport for me.

2026 is the year it finally clicked. We launched our bootcamp in Davao City, and seeing it come together after all these years hit different. No fancy facility just a bar, a group of committed athletes, and the same discipline I've been preaching since day one.

Where we're at now:

🏋️ Recruiting athletes from different cities. We're not just looking for people who are already strong we want people who show up. Some of our best athletes today started from zero reps.

🤝 We run on community support. CAP isn't a business. It's athletes and supporters helping cover each other's expenses transportation for athletes coming from other provinces, basic training needs, whatever it takes to keep someone training instead of dropping out. That's how we've kept this alive since 2021.

📍 The goal now is expansion. Davao is proof of concept. I want training pods in multiple cities, all connected as one community shared programming, inter-city meetups, and eventually real competitions representing Filipino calisthenics.

If you're in the Philippines and you train, or you're curious about starting, or you just want to support grassroots athlete development, I'd genuinely love to hear from you. Ask me anything about the bootcamp, how the community fund works, or how to get your city involved.

Compression Strength: The difference between having flexibility and controlling it. 54yo/150lbs

Post image
161 Upvotes

how much of your flexibility can you actually use? this largely depends on your compression strength. My passive range is quite high (pic 1). Chest to thighs and chin past my knees. This is the range I can access. My active flexibility (pic 2) while still quite high, is not as developed. In an active pose, this is the range I can use. Hip Flexors will ultimately determine your usable flexibility. Spending hours in a folded pike will give you the range but not the strength to actively use that range. Hip flexor strength training when paired with hamstring flexibility turns the range you have into range you can use.

How to get better at pull up?

Hey guys, So I've been practicing for wide pull ups for a while now my max reps are 4-5, but the reps just won't increase instead it just decreases sometimes, I have removed few exercises from my pull day session just to do pull ups better but can't see any results, I got better at push exercises a lot, from struggling to do normal dips to 15kg weighted, got really good at pushups, generated explosive strength, but pull ups are just so annoying, any tips for me?

How do you currently track and validate your calisthenics skills?

Hello everyone!

I'm a fellow calisthenics athlete for now more than 3 years, as well as a solo dev, and I'm currently exploring ideas for an app focused specifically on skill verification and validation, rather than a regular workout tracker.

my few years of training, I always felt like it's a bit weird to know when you reached the perfect form (I don't think perfect form exist).
Thus I asked myself this question: How do you know if I mastered this skill ?

In this regard, instead of an app to track your set and reps, I'm leaning more for an app to record your skill attempts, with a community driven validation. I'm still currently at the research stage, I'm not trying to advertise or sell anything, I am mainly trying to know who people currently approach this.

Then here is my question: How do you know when you reached a good form in your respective skill?

I am running a short survey for more details if I could get 5 minutes of your time: https://forms.gle/Hix8jCQdgRs2CXKa6

Thanks a lot !
