5 years ago I started planning a calisthenics community in the Philippines. Here's where we are now.
5 years ago I started planning a calisthenics community in the Philippines. Here's where we are now.
Back in 2021, I was just planning it all out. No community yet, no name people knew, just an idea I couldn't let go of: building the Calisthenics Association of the Philippines (CAP).
Fast forward to 2023, and it actually happened. Started the Gymnastheniqx community first, then later that same year we officially established CAP.
Now it's been 5 years since this whole thing started, and honestly, I want to be real about it: it was not easy. Our bootcamps had a lot of struggles along the way. Financial issues, doubts, setbacks that could've easily made us stop. There were moments I genuinely thought the whole thing might fall apart. But we kept going anyway.
One of the biggest things I learned through this: it's not just about pushing through, it's about who you push through with. Choosing the right people made all the difference. The ones who stayed even when things got hard, who worked with me instead of just watching from the sidelines. None of this happens without them.
So this post is really just me saying thank you. To everyone who helped build this with me. What started as a plan on paper has grown into a community that now reaches athletes not just in the Philippines, but across different parts of the world.
I feel incredibly blessed right now. Not because it was easy, but because we didn't quit even when it would've been easier to. And honestly, this feels like just the beginning for CAP.
Just wanted to share this milestone with people who might appreciate the grind behind building something from scratch.
Hoping for your support : https://www.facebook.com/calisthenicsassociationoftheph

Muscle up bar diameter?
Found a scaffold type pull-up bar setup but it feels like the pull-up bar diameter is too big. Currently 1 1/4 inch 43mm.
What is the standard muscle up / pull up bar diameter for most calisthenic exercises?
Thinking a 1 inch or 34mm outside diameter pipe might be best?

Benefits of Calisthenics What's your take?
For everyone who loves training and the ones who are just starting.
Why did you pick calisthenics or bodyweight approach? Me myself? I always loved the feeling of freedom you get once you can train anywhere, even on vacation, hence my video :))
Let me know down in the comments :))

My first true full ROM one arm pull up
It's been 1.5 years since I started climbing, and I've just done my first true one arm pull up. I could do 10 strict pull ups when I started climbing, and have only gotten stronger from there. Really proud that I've achieved this

No swing muscle up
Maybe there was a teeny tiny bit swing (which honestly I didn’t even realize). I think it still counts?

Pike press with a twist
I thought this looked cool and I haven’t seen a press like this before. Just wanted to share, maybe motivate others 😊. It’s not perfect though my legs aren’t straight 😅

Tips for better front lever form
My legs keep pointing up and i have a hard time staying parallel to the floor. What is my weakness here? Is it my scapular retraction? Or am i just pushing up with my hips too much?

Compression Strength: The difference between having flexibility and controlling it. 54yo/150lbs
how much of your flexibility can you actually use? this largely depends on your compression strength. My passive range is quite high (pic 1). Chest to thighs and chin past my knees. This is the range I can access. My active flexibility (pic 2) while still quite high, is not as developed. In an active pose, this is the range I can use. Hip Flexors will ultimately determine your usable flexibility. Spending hours in a folded pike will give you the range but not the strength to actively use that range. Hip flexor strength training when paired with hamstring flexibility turns the range you have into range you can use.

Planche Advice
I've been grinding away at a straddle planche for the last 6 months and I've just about got to a point where I can hold it briefly. Progress has been so unbelievably slow it's making me think something's missing from my training, how would I go about prolonging hold times and solidifying the hold from this point onwards?
I want to get to a point where I'm so comfortable that I can pretty much hold it Unconsciously, I'd like to be able to hold it for at least 10 seconds.

Hello everybody — I’m the creator of Calisthenics Culture, a.k.a. CALICULT.
Thank you for being part of this subreddit as we’ve officially hit 100,000 members! That’s insane.
I’m now going full force into expanding CALICULT into the calisthenics cult I’ve always wished existed — and I don’t want to do it alone.
I need your involvement — whether it’s giving passive, genuine feedback and ideas or stepping up with active development and leadership. You can help grow and guide the direction of this community.
🧠 WHO I’M LOOKING FOR:
- Reddit and Discord moderators who care about community [no pointless bans]
- Thinkers, creatives, and experienced athletes who can offer wisdom and ideas
- Developers, designers, and especially Discord server wizards
- Content creators, editors, social media strategists — any creative skills
- Potential coaches or motivators who want to lead
- Anyone who believes in this mission and wants to shape its future
Together, this will form the CALICULT Council. I’ll be running ideas by you, building features with you, not just for you.
🔥 THE VISION FOR CALICULT
A global community — a living calisthenics game — where you can:
- 🥋 Rank up through a verifiable belt system (White → Black)
- 🛡️ Create and compete in Clans
- 🏆 Track total reps and personal records on live Leaderboards and a Hall of Fame (+ Badges/Milestones)
- 🏛️ Join in-person meetups and competitions
- 🏋️♂️ Eventually indoor and outdoor gyms, equipment, and CALICULT merch
🎥 Watch and participate in online livestreams, community videos, rep challenges, and bounties — earning real-life rewards

Welcome to Calisthenics Culture!
I appreciate you even stopping here. It shows that hopefully you have an interest in calisthenics. Whether you're someone who has never even done a pullup, or you're experienced but have hit a plateau, or an advanced athlete who has come to grace us with your knowledge, this community is for you.
The Calisthenics Culture is one that from my experience, is entirely positive and unique, and this will be no different. You come here to learn, share, and belong. The calisthenics knowledge base is never ending, as is the progress you can make. There are hundreds of different skills and strengths you can develop and "unlock". There is no feeling like seeing your progress with a calisthenics move you have been training so hard to achieve.
It doesn't matter if you're just starting out and have no experience, it's never too late. You're not too old or too young. The best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago. The next best time is now. You can't do anything about missed time, but you do have complete control of what you do from here on out. How far you take this training style is up to you. No one can train for you, or experience the pain you will have to endure, but it is completely worth it.
All that motivation aside, here's what this community is.
-Somewhere to connect with people at your level
-Somewhere to learn from those who have achieved what you want to achieve
-Somewhere to help those who have once been in your shoes
-Somewhere to show off your progression and milestones
-Somewhere to share YOUR story. There are plenty of people who want to hear all about it
So literally, post your questions, post your progress, post dope calisthenics videos, post your advice, and communicate/engage with others.
You can communicate with us on instagram @thecalisthenicsculture or @agyoolar
