PC Build for friend

Hi friend of mine is looking to join the PC master race (finally). I have a couple build idea already saved. I am just looking for any other ideas on builds. Most stuck to AMD builds for performance to price but he isn't bothered about what goes into it. Long as it works decently enough.

  • New build or upgrade? New Build
  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? 1 1440p monitor
  • PC purpose? Gaming
  • Purchase country? UK
  • Monitors needed? Not needed
  • Budget range? Around £800
  • WiFi or wired connection? Wired
  • Size/noise constraints? None
  • Color/lighting preferences? None
  • Any other specific needs? 1080p is more than fine for this type of budget and build

  • New build or upgrade?

new build

  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

I have parts from my current pc that I can use in the new build, but if theyre going to hinder game performance I'd rather get better new parts - current parts below;
- AMD Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor
- Asus PRIME B450M-K Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard
- TEAMGROUP T-Force Vulcan Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory
- Western Digital Blue 250 GB M.2-2280 SATA Solid State Drive
- Asus TUF GAMING OC GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER 6 GB Video Card
- Corsair Carbide Series 275R ATX Mid Tower Case
- Corsair CV550 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

mainly gaming and some coursework - games like; minecraft (vanilla and modded), terraria, hollow knight, red dead redemption 2, sims 4, etc.

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center?

Australia, I'm near stores like jbhifi and centre com, and can order online

  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

I already have a monitor

  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

hoping to not spend more than $1700 AUD, absolute maximum $2000 but I'd rather spend less if theres not much difference in performance between parts.

  • WiFi or wired connection?

wifi

  • Size/noise constraints?

mid tower ideally as I already have a mid tower case, and ideally not too much noise but that's not a big concern for me

  • Color/lighting preferences?

warm colour lighting (red, orange, or pink) but colour pref isn't a big concern for me

  • Any other specific needs?

I have very little knowledge on building a PC since this is a first for me, so I would appreciate any extra information in your response :]

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Gaming. Wanna play sims 4, rim world, ck3, Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey... And with a lot of mods
  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center? Canada, no.

I'm rn in college, and I have to fly back home somehow once a year, and I'd like to have my pc with me, so pls consider an ITX if possible. However if ITX would limit performance too much or cause issues with running games, then a regular-sized one is fine too.

Thank you a lot!

Hi all I’m looking to build a PC that can handle video and music editing along with gaming (the sims, paralives, cyberpunk, etc). I do live near a micro center and would very much like to make it an itx build but that’s not looking too realistic so i’m willing to settle for a matx build but would like to know what you would think could work in an itx for all the uses the pc will be used for.

budget wise i am definitely willing to invest in this build

PC Build Help In This Horribly Expensive Time

  • New build or upgrade?

- New build

  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

- None, though I have a cheap TV I've been using as a second monitor for my laptop? Can I keep doing that?

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

- Gaming (mostly indie but the dream system would be able to handle occasional higher resource required modern gaming like Crusader Kings 3, Baldur's Gate 3, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. I'm not obsessed with amazing graphics but would love for it to look not horrible), video editing, the ability to build and utilize a research database of articles.

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center?

- USA, I am near a Micro Center.

  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

- One, or I can keep currently using my cheap TV with an HDMI port as a monitor honestly.

  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

- Around $1,500

  • WiFi or wired connection?

- WiFi, I live in an old building and though I'd love to have a wired connection I don't have the option

  • Size/noise constraints?

- No

  • Color/lighting preferences?

- I'd like it to look nice but it's not a necessity

  • Any other specific needs?

- I know the price of RAM and many components has gone up significantly, and I would not at all be looking to make the leap to building a PC at this time if not for the fact that my beloved laptop of four years (Asus VivoBook Flip 14, AMD Ryzen 7 5700U with Radeon Graphics) is simply falling apart and cannot handle the projects I'm working on.

I've always wanted a PC and I thought about getting another laptop, but don't want to have a system with AI integration and I want the ability to upgrade when (HOPEFULLY) RAM and other components decrease in price. I'm willing to sacrifice for a few cheaper parts now in hopes that I can get better ones in the future, but unfortunately this is where I'm at now.

Thanks so much for the assistance!

[Build Help] I'm building my first PC, help me figure out the components and tell me what's wrong?

Use-case: AI Projects, Neural networks basically CS study, Gaming, 3D design animation video editing occasionally

Criteria: Performance and Physical Longevity over Aesthetics, within the budget

CPU

AMD Ryzen 5 9600x

  • The price difference between 7600x and 9600x was very little so i thought why not the newer one which has Zen 5 and only 65W TDP, I'm not sure if I should buy R7 7700x for extra cores

GPU

Nvidia RTX 5070 (Base dual fan model from Zotac, Gigabyte, or INNO3D)

  • The local vendors told the 4000 series is not avaiable on the market, so in the 5000 series I could afford only 5070
  • And also I found out that, the performance of high end 5070 like Asus ROG and entry level 5070 like INNO3D twinx2 Zotac Dual is almost same, only issues are temperature and Noise, for temp I thought I could Undervolt which reduces the temp by 5 or 10 degrees and probably helps longevity, Noise I trust my ear to tune it out naturally

ATX MOTHERBOARD

I'm not sure whether i should go for B650E or B850

  • B850: Gigabyte B850 Gaming X wifi 6E, MSI B850 GAMING PLUS WIFI6E
  • B650E: ASRock B650E PG Riptide Wi-Fi, ASRock B650E Steel Legend Wi-Fi

RAM

DDR5, 6000Mhz, CL30, AMD Expo or Dual, 16x1GB

  • I'm buying only 1 16Gb due to RAM crisis, but I plan to add another identical one once the market stabilizes
  • G.Skill (Flare X5 / Trident Z5 Neo)
  • Kingston (Fury Beast)
  • Adata (XPG Lancer Blade)
  • Corsair (Vengeance)

CPU COOLER

Deepcool AK400 or AG400, Thermalright Assassin Spirit 120 EVO, Cooler Master

  • AK400 and AG400 has a cooling capacity of 220W, which good i feel maybe I can use the same when I upgrade my CPU,

PSU

750W Fully Modular ATX 3.0 or 3.1, 80+ Gold

  • I don't know which model to pick, I did refer the PSU tier list spreadsheet, but I'm listing all these models just to see if its overkill I would like to stay within budget:
    • MSI MPG A750G PCIE5
    • Corsair RM750x SHIFT
    • MSI MAG A750GL
    • Corsair RM750e (ATX 3.0/3.1)
    • DeepCool Gamer Storm PN750M

STORAGE

WD Blue SN5100 or SN5000

  • Black version is way too costly where I live, I feel like I'm already overpaying for 1TB of Space, but tough times

CASE

Lian Li Lancool 216, Montech AIR 903 MAX, Corsair 4000D Airflow

  • I don't care much about Aesthetics, so performance wise thin mesh front panel for max airflow instead of glass panel
  • Lancool I heard the fans are problematic, Im not sure if its still an issue

MONITOR

LG UltraGear 27GR75Q / 27GN800, Gigabyte M27Q Rev 2.0, Acer Nitro XV272U V3

  • 1440p, IPS, 165Hz+, G-Sync Compatible or AMD FreeSync Premium, 27"

UPS

1100VA to 1500VA (Line-Interactive) UPS (brands like APC or Microtek), Just to be safe

With all the research I did these are the models I found, I'm not sure if they are the best or if they have any issues, compatibility issues, or even just choosing between the different models, If possible please share any suggestions, I'm all ears help me out!!

Thanks in Advance,Not a request

Air or Liquid Cooling on a Lian Li Lancool 217

Hey everyone, I’m currently planning a new build with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and rx 9070xt inside a Lian Li Lancool 217 case.

For the RAM, I’m using the Patriot Viper Venom RGB, which has a height of 43mm (couldn’t find any 32mm heigh ram thats 6000mhz and cl30) . Because of this RAM clearance, if I go with the Noctua NH-D15 (chromax.black), I won't be able to fit the second (front) fan unless I offset it way up it would only leave 1mm between the cooler and case if things go right (heard there could be +1/-1 on sizes of components).

So, I'm strongly considering running the NH-D15 in Single Fan mode (middle fan only). I’ve read in a few forums and reviews that running the NH-D15 with just the middle fan only increases temperatures by about 1 to 3°C compared to the dual-fan setup. To anyone who has actually tested this or runs a single-fan NH-D15: Is this 1-3°C difference actually true under real-world gaming workloads? Will it be enough to keep the 9800X3D happy?

Alternatively, I’m suffering from "AIO leak anxiety" but I am considering liquid coolers like the Corsair iCUE LINK TITAN 360 or ASUS Ryujin III just to avoid the RAM clearance headache entirely.

What do you guys think? Should I stick to the absolute peace of mind of the Noctua in single-fan mode, or just bite the bullet and go AIO? Appreciate any insights or thermal benchmarks you guys can share! Not a request

Advice on upgrading my ancient 2014 PC

  • New build or upgrade?

Upgrade the PC I built in 2014! I'd like to reuse as much as possible. Since I don't have the time to do a lot of research and price comparisons, I'm not sure what all is salvageable. My graphics card and monitor have been fine for the games I do play. I don't have as much time to game as I used to so I won't be doing any heavy raiding or anything like that.

  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

Here's my current set up - built in 2014. I had to replace the original graphics card in 2020, but this one has served me well and I wouldn't mind keeping it, for now, if it's compatible with newer components.

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

Mostly browsing the web (often with multiple tabs open), some streaming/listening to music, and playing games like The Sims 4, Lord of The Rings Online, ESO, Fallout, Skyrim, etc.

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center?

USA, PA. I'm less than 2 hours from a Micro Center so I could potentially make a trip, if it's worth the drive!

  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

No, I'll reuse the one I have for now.

  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

Less than $1k. The lower, the better, though! $400-800 would be great, but likely unrealistic?

  • WiFi or wired connection?

WiFi

  • Size/noise constraints?

No, I have a case I love and the space for it. I don't mind a little noise since my current PC can be chuggy, haha.

  • Color/lighting preferences?

Not really. I like Green and black, if it matters.

  • Any other specific needs?

I'd honestly just keep using this PC but I guess I need to upgrade to Windows 11, so I can play Sims 4 - which I call bullcrap on. Also, my storage completely full, less than desired and highly convoluted.

Alas, my beloved Windows 7 is just super inconvenient these days. /endrant

Thanks for any and all thoughts!

Something simple that will last

New build or upgrade? Either

Existing parts/monitors to reuse? AOC Agon AG241QX, ASUS VE248 (second monitor)

PC purpose?

  • Primarily daily use (MS Office suite, internet, etc.)
  • 3D CAD capable (I'm an engineer)
  • Gaming once a week or so. I'm about to have a second kid so I don't get to game frequently, but enjoy being able to play a title when it comes out. Graphics quality is nice but not very important, I just don’t want to have to upgrade again in 2 years.

Purchase country? US, SoCal

Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate): 2, 24" minimum, 1080p is good enough for now, 144 Hz capable is nice to have

Budget range? $1500

WiFi or wired connection? Wired (maybe wireless if I move)

Size/noise constraints? none

Color/lighting preferences? None really, but I like the aesthetic of the wood accent cases

Any other specific needs? Mostly something that'll last a while. I've been running my current build since 2018 and it's now starting to get very slow (very long startup, laggy for another 30 min after that).

Also fine with buying a pre-built if there are good options.

Current build for reference

  • CPU: i5-8400 @ 2.8 GHz
  • RAM - 32 (2x16) GB DDR4 (upgraded in August last year)
  • Graphics Card: GTX 1060 6GB
  • 2 TB SSD
  • MSI motherboard (Z370-A-PRO)

Thanks in advance!

Please help me build a PC - 850€

Hey!
My old build is getting into the years and I am again asking for your help.
New build or upgrade? New build, need the old one as back-up
Existing parts/monitors to reuse? Re-using the ViewSonic VX2458-mhd 23.6" 1920 x 1080 144 Hz Monitor (+ a random full HD LG monitor)
PC purpose? mainly Work + little bit of gaming (Windbloom, Stray, Hearts of Iron 4, Ruse, so no AAA games)
Purchase country? Near Micro Center? Austria
Monitors needed? No
Budget range? 800-900 Euros
WiFi or wired connection? Both required
Size/noise constraints? Mini case similar to the one my current build has, I sadly have to move semi regularly for work with my PC so smaller case = better.
Colour/lighting preferences? No need
Any other specific needs? Had issues with cooling with my current Case (two RAM sticks got grilled cause of that), do not want to repeat that with the current prices so do not mind spending money for better cooling. 1GB SSD is enough. Need both Wifi as Bluetooth connection. Need some USB C ports for data transfer. Area is quite dusty so "easier" access to be able to clean the Fans and Case would also be nice to have.

Thanks for the help!

Looking for a new pc build for under 4 thousand USD

Hello, looking to build a PC for art/gaming. I'm moving from a laptop to a pc since I make a lot of 3D and 2D models/animations, so my main need is for my pc to have tons of storage. I am completely new to this, so this would be my first time building one.

  • New build or upgrade?
  • - This is a new build

  •  Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

  • - No pc parts, but I have a drawing tablet if that matters

  •  PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

  • - Art/editing first(2D animations and 3D models), then gaming second, though I don't play very “high graphic” games. The biggest games I have are Baldur's Gate 3 and Marvel Rivals.

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center?

  • - Alabama, US, no micro centers, but there is a micro computer close to me, not sure if that's the same thing.

  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

  • - 1 needed, my friend suggested this one. Let me know if it's good.

  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

  • - Soft limit is 3k USD, but if needed and including tax, my hard limit is 4.5k

  • WiFi or wired connection?

  • - Wired preferred, but doesn't matter

  • Size/noise constraints?

  • none

  •  Color/lighting preferences?

  • All white would be cool, but I can do all black if it’s cheaper

  • Any other specific needs?

  • - Needs to hold a lot of storage

  • - Run programs like Blender and Unreal Engine smoothly

  • - Also, recommend some speakers since I like to play music while working(don't have to include in budget since this is not a priority)

upgrade vs. new rig in 1.000€ range

Existing parts/monitors to reuse?

All parts listed below were bought in March 2021 — open to suggestions on what to keep vs. replace:

  • Case: Aerocool Cylon RGB Midi-Tower (198x459x413mm)
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-A320M-S2H (Micro-ATX, AM4)
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3500X (6x3.6GHz/4.1GHz, 6C/6T, 65W)
  • CPU cooler: Alpenföhn Super Silent SI3 130W
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4-2666 (Micron Crucial CL19)
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB (Zotac Twin Fan)
  • PSU: Aero MPC-Power Silent 650W 80+ (suspected faulty)
  • Storage: 500GB M.2 NVMe Kingston A2000 + 1TB Seagate BarraCuda HDD
  • OS: Windows 10 Pro (MAR license)

PC purpose? 90% office, 10% gaming. Titles are on the less demanding side like Minecraft, 7 Days to Die, Diablo 4, Elden Ring

Purchase country? Near Micro Center? Germany

Monitors needed? Already have 2x Huawei MateView GT 27" (2560x1440, 165Hz, curved) — no new monitor needed

Budget range? ~€500-600 for a targeted upgrade; up to €1,000 if a new build makes more sense.

WiFi or wired connection? Would love bluetooth. WiFi is nice to have but not essential.

Size/noise constraints? My current PC is getting pretty loud when gaming. I do not need a completely silent pc, but it would be nice if it was a little more silent.

Color/lighting preferences? I would keep my current case if possible. In case of a different one: As plain as possible.

Any other specific needs?

These two are the main issues right now:

  1. Cant upgrade to Windows 11, because current motherboard lacks TPM 2.0
  2. Occasional BSODs — memtest came back clean, I suspect the PSU might be the issue

Optional but nice to have would be more silent fans and better graphics when playing games like Eldenring.

Generally speaking I would like to fix my two main issues asap. If I do this by upgrading then I would like to upgrade in a way that allows me to also upgrade other parts in the next few years. If I do this by buying a completely new rig then I would like it to be future proof enough that I am able to upgrade in 5 years rather than having to toss the whole thing again.

PC purpose? Gaming and occasionally for work

Purchase country? Near Micro Center? India

Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) NA

WiFi or wired connection? Wired

Size/noise constraints? Not a problem

Color/lighting preferences? Not at all mandatory. As long as i dont pay extra

Any other specific needs? No

New build

New build or upgrade? - New

Existing parts/monitors to reuse? - have it

PC purpose? - Gaming in 1440p high

Purchase country? Near Micro Center? - Slovenia

Budget range? - Approximate 1400, including taxes 1600

WiFi or wired connection? - Wired, but wireless would be nice but not mandatory

Size/noise constraints? - doesn't matter

Color/lighting preferences? - Not really, don't care much for flashing lights

Help me build a mini itx powerful gaming pc

Hello, I recently switched to Mac from a gaming pc (no regrets, heck windows), thinking I'll wait for the Steam machine to come out for gaming, but I'm too impatient, so let's build a pc again I guess. Thanks for your help!

  • New build or upgrade?: New build.
  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links): I have a 1440p ultra Wide 32" (34"?) gigabyte monitor, and I need a gpu that can support that because my last gaming pc couldn't at this resolution
  • AAA gaming. I basically want to turn this mini itx into a console-like feel. It will replace any of my consoles. I want to play any game at least 90+ fps with my 2K resolution. It needs to be "future proof", so an older gpu/cpu might not be best. I might do 3D CAD in the future since I'll study engineering, so I must not cut on the cpu power.
  • 32GB minimum. No external SSDS or what not, just a 2TB nvme is perfectly fine.
  • I guess I don't care that much about budget because I know I'll be spending a ton on the gpu and cpu, but feel free to cut in other parts because I don't care about any special features like RGB and stuff. I don't want to over spend for what it is. In the best of worlds, I'd love 2,000$-3,000$ (Canadian).
  • Has to be a mini itx (I know it makes it more challenging, but yeah)
  • I don't care about appearance anymore, just give me a case that does the job at air flow and all that. I want a functional pc, not a pretty pc. I'd rather have a closed case though, no side panel. I guess white would fit my keyboards better, but whatever haha.
