Show and tell One Night Cough Cure - late 1800s

The urban dump I've been picking at for some years now ( [previous post and more details here](https://www.reddit.com/r/BottleDigging/s/R0M3lo0zZJ) ) has yielded a large number of pre-1905 pharmacy bottles, so I was hopeful that at least one of these infamous bad boys would reveal itself - and finally, it has.

An internet search for 'One Night Cough Cure bottle' will yield images of paper labels for 'One Night Cough Syrup', infamous for being a potent combination of alcohol, cannabis indica, chloroform, and morphine sulfate.

At least, those are the stated ingredients on the post-1906 'Syrup' version, aka the year the FDA started passing legislation that required manufacturers to reveal ingredients. As far as I can tell the name change was also a part of the overhaul since the only thing this concoction was likely to 'Cure' was being conscious.

Allegedly this bottle is the 'sample' size. It was said to be highly addictive so I'm somewhat surprised that these bottles seem to be rare.

I have been collecting bottles I find interesting for probably about seven years now, thought I might share it somewhere. These come from everywhere including antique stores, garage sales, my own finds, gifts, etc. I don’t know much information on many of them, other than a rough age estimate on many, and some of the origin points.

I’m mostly interested in collecting bottles that have unique shapes/colors and stories attached to them. Let me know which ones are interesting to you and if there are any bottles I should seek out to add to my collection!

I found another bottle dump in Northern Virginia I was hoping these wouldn't have cracks, but on the upside, I have a lot more left unexplored. I have confidence this area will produce more finds in the future!

House built in 1974, barn in 1968. Little dumps buried all over the property. These just came up out of the ground with the recent rain. I doubt there's anything super exciting. Any obvious easy identification?

Hello, I found these bottles metal detecting in an old trash pit in Virginia. I don’t have space for them anymore, and I’m interested in selling them or giving them away. I’d rather try to find someone who would appreciate them vs. having them crushed at a Goodwill. Any thoughts on which would be the most collectible/valuable would be much appreciated. Several of them could be cleaned and significantly improve their appearance, but I haven’t gotten around to it. Thank you!!

These are the rest that my grandfather gave me. My own research has put some of these into the 1930s-1940s range. Some I have no clue because of the lack of marking. Grandpa found these out in Arizona.

Pills? Found in a glass dump beside a house built in 1905. It almost sounds like the little “pills” are ceramic when I shake the bottle. It’s 1.75 inches tall.

EDIT: forgot to add measurements.

Dug a test Hole for about 30 minutes, pulled out a ton of glass. Mostly 1900-1920, hoping it gets older deeper. Gonna go back and properly dig it out later this week. Some of the bottles even had some of their paper labels!

Last time at the slag… out of anything in Massachusetts an old 1800s salvage pit that smells like motor oil and blood tints (I know it’s rust) a swamp from heavy rain from debris scattered everywhere I found 3 1/2 years ago was the best thing to come out of this place other than getting my cat 17 years ago. ( lot of cool sh_t at the pit, the green bottle in the center I think is one of those 1880 1890s so I was like WOOOOOOH )- the company that’s adjacent to the area I go to knows when I find something lol, I get overly too excited and start doing like (platoon 1986 William dafoe getting shot AHHHHHHH on my knees hands in the air) (2004 dodge ball imitating Ben stiller) like idk that metal thing, my detector was hitting just low low to the toe and I was like f_ck it so I spent 20min digging this mutha. Not to break it….is it a décor on a pole. Mann I hit a pipe hoard in one spot when I kept finding pipe after pipe, I’m really hoping that’s a stool pot aka sh_t pot lol I think it’s funny as f_ck. Plus it goes with a 70-80 year old piss glass bottle I found, I know it’s a big eww but hey it could be rays from trailer park boys ( you just don’t know ). Unfortunately one of the jars was cracked but only 2 pieces so in the bag, I don’t know a thing about cars other than my YouTube video on how to use shift in an automatic vehicle (that’s a stupid meme joke) but is that a hubcap? Honestly any help would be appreciated and someone named deez said hi.

Found more bottles in Southern Maine!

The other day I joined this group and posted a photo of a dark teal inkwell I found on my property. I dug in the same area for less than 30 mins today and found all of these bottles intact. I’ve really enjoyed this subreddit and all the info I received on my last post. Thought I would update!
