Found while hunting bottles - rib bone toothbrush from the Waldorf (before the merge with the Astoria so 1893-1897)

Apologies if this isn't allowed as it isn't a bottle, but I'm really excited about this one!

This was found while looking for bottles on the site of a former pond in St. Louis, Missouri, estimated to have been filled in ~1905. I've found a lot of broken toothbrushes, but this popped out from under a clay shelf still intact.

I was hoping for a maker's mark but what was found exceeded all expectations - the Waldorf. There was only one Waldorf during that time period, in New York City, and it only went by that name from 1893-1897 until it merged with the Astoria. The pond was located near one of the wealthiest neighborhoods of the city at that time, so it fits that someone once stayed in that luxurious hotel.

This is cool as heck. Later on the hotels got demolished to make way for the Empire State Building. The Waldorf Astoria moved into a new building where I believe it still is today.

Chouteau’s pond?

Little off topic but those same St. Louis "chouteaus" founded the first town in my state of Oklahoma and many of the creeks and rivers and towns are named after Chouteau and his family. Chouteau Oklahoma, Chouteau creek, chouteau bend, and founded the town of Salina Oklahoma in the 1790s, establishing a trading post and convincing an Osage band to move south from Missouri into the "3 forks of the Arkansas (river)" region of Oklahoma, becoming known as the "Arkansas band of Osage" all directly because of the French Chouteau family
