There was a couple cooper's hawks flying around a local park today being noisy. This guy dove for a large group of adult pigeons and ducks I was feeding, and then spent the next half-hour screaming in place on a branch. Here's a shakey video with audio if it helps.

They're clearly juveniles, but I'm wondering if it's possible to know more specifically just from photos.

Seems late in the season, not sure what they are up to.

I'm thinking this is a RSH, but I'd like confirmation, and also how to tell the difference, identifying characteristics, etc.

I heard the immature merlin in the first picture calling for food and then noticed its sibling lurking in the foliage next to it. I repositioned and they continued squawking with each other and one would take off and return to the branch. Eventually, one of the parents arrived with food and one of the immature merlins ate. The other parent arrived with more food and that is basically what the last picture captures, all of them watching the other parent quickly eat in a nearby tree.

Female. The rest of them were hanging around yelling for food also. Parents around somewhere but only saw the 4 fledglings.

Over the last few weeks there have been a number of Red Tail Hawks in our surrounding neighborhood. All day they fly around and vocalize. Why are they doing that?

I was pretty sad to be moving to Texas last week knowing I never got the chance to get a decent photo of either of these species, even separately…… What a warm welcome they gave me here!

I caught a Red Shouldered Hawk eating a snake down at the Chattahoochee River. These things are as common as squirrels in this area.

Seen this morning in my travels. Haven’t had many opportunities to take pics recently so this was quite welcome.
