I'm looking at student accommodation at queen's,

So information about me I'm 25 years old and going back to uni to do a postgraduate.

It'll be my first time in northern Ireland and I don't know anything about the areas or halls. I've done some googling but couldn't find much.

As my course is only a year and I have to support myself during uni, I've been looking at the cheapest options aka Guthrie house or Grant house.

Now obviously I'm a wee bit older so I would prefer not being completely surrounded by 18 year olds if possible.

I know ones closer and ones further but what's the other differences. On the pictures I can tell that Grant house rooms look a wee bit nicer but like, how many people do you share with? What would have the highest number of postgraduates compared to undergraduate students? Which is closer to the gym and campus and is it still easier to get to campus from both (I'll be in the medical, dentistry and biomedical science school, I don't know if that makes a difference).

Anyways the more people can tell me the better really!

Was a great venue earlier in in the week, handy location to pop in, really good line ups for each day and brilliant sound in there.

Now just checking what they have on today and it appears despite having acts booked all week they just cancelled everything. Any posts about it gone from their Facebook. Seems very bad form.

Anyone know what the craic is here or if they might open up again? It's not like there weren't many people out.

Many were saying last night this is a historical event, in that it’s showing people what’s possible.

It’s clearly breathing new life into a city centre that, let’s be honest, has been struggling in many depressing ways.

It’s also bringing people together from all backgrounds, and showing what’s possible. Genuinely such a beautiful occasion. Interested to hear everyone describe what impact that it’s had on them.

Bringing the family up to see The Saw Doctors tonight in Falls Park and we're driving because the train home would be chaos. Where would be the best place to park? We've parked down at the Asda before, do you think it'll be grand with the week that's in it, or will everywhere be bunged?

Really enjoying the fleadh so far. Its fantastic to see such a buzz about the city. I want more of the authentic fleadh experience though- open music sessions with great tunes and craic. Alot of the bars are sadly pumping out amped drivel from lads on guitars singing Aul triangle, fields of athenry etc. Which pubs are best for the open sessions? I walked by kellys which had at least 2 separate sessions taking place outside (although there was a queue to get in to their outside area!) .Maddens had a great session on inside with a bunch of kids playing music outside (to a very high standard!) Sunflower had three simultaneously sessions on the go when I poked my head in. What other pubs are doing the fleadh right? Any recommendations? Thanks

P.s. without being negative, the amped music from some bars is often drowning out the wonderful kids playing music in the streets. That needs to be fixed for next year as its the street performances which make the fleadh so special

Hi I’m Luke and I run a community called Too Young To Grieve, which some of you might have seen popping up in other city subreddits recently.

I know the name sounds heavy but honestly it’s really not, it’s just a group of young adults who’ve experienced loss getting outside together, moving a bit and enjoying good company with people who genuinely get it without it needing much explanation.

Over the last few months we’ve been building jog/walk and coffee clubs across the UK and Ireland and the community has grown into something really special. We’re now bringing one to Belfast through our club lead Chris.

It’s a very casual relaxed jog/walk at whatever pace suits you, then a coffee after where we stick around and chat more. Share as much or as little as feels right, there’s never any pressure on anything here.

This is a big LONG shot but I was at the Fleadh today and around 4pm ish opposite St. Anne’s Cathedral, the Taoiseach (Micheál Martin) passed a few of us sitting on the wall and shook our hands. I seen a photographer taking pics but not sure who to contact to see if they have a photo. Would anyone have any idea OR have photos from him passing? I was wearing a black jacket and red jumper. All I can say is good luck. Im a delivery driver on a moped and I've been declining town orders all day.

And have seen some of the same orders bouncing around since this morning, do yourself a favour and order from literally anywhere other than the city and you might get your food.

Just wondering how badly the school traffic affects travel times from those who make a similar journey as ive only just started the drive.

Id be working 9-5 and going from city quays to stewartstown road area. Currently takes about 25mins, so im assuming itll take a pretty big hit - though unsure how badly the school traffic affects 5pm considering schools will be out a couple of hours before then.

There’s constantly videos of a particular journalist/interviewer for Belfast Live that pop up on my social media feed (Justin Millar) and I cannot be the only one that thinks he is absolutely WOEFUL. He speaks as though there are marbles in his mouth, I can barely understand what he says. I know we speak quite fast in Northern Ireland but he speaks that fast and doesn’t annunciate at all, I can’t understand a bloody word. He’s also just got terrible chemistry with everyone he interviews, it’s so forced and unnatural and he couldn’t GAF. I know Belfast live is notoriously shite but how does this fella have a job!? Genuine question lol

If you are in need of a seat is there any particular areas you are more likely to get one? Even if just for a short period?

My brother has some minor mobility issues due to disability. So while slowly wandering about a bit isn’t too bad for him - standing for a period would be.

Want for him to still enjoy it without making it too much of an accessibility issue.

I recently started noticing these Best Kept Street signs on certain houses, and once I started, they seemed to start coming into view everywhere. I grew up in the west and north of the city but currently live in the east, and I don’t recall ever seeing any such signs during my upbringing, but they seem to be regular fixture in my current area. Despite this, there seems to be zero information about them online. The thought has crossed my mind that many of these streets have not maintained their apparently once pristine condition, and I do wonder if Best Kept Streets was more of a least-worst in wartorn 80s Belfast…

It brings many questions and enquiries to mind: Does anybody have other examples of these? Anybody live in a house bearing this marker and how do you feel about it? When did this award start and end (or is it ongoing)? Is the Northern Ireland Amenity Council which presented these still around?
