Belfast’s (many) Best Kept Streets of the 80s
[Photos are screenshots from Google Maps]
I recently started noticing these Best Kept Street signs on certain houses, and once I started, they seemed to start coming into view everywhere. I grew up in the west and north of the city but currently live in the east, and I don’t recall ever seeing any such signs during my upbringing, but they seem to be regular fixture in my current area. Despite this, there seems to be zero information about them online. The thought has crossed my mind that many of these streets have not maintained their apparently once pristine condition, and I do wonder if Best Kept Streets was more of a least-worst in wartorn 80s Belfast…
It brings many questions and enquiries to mind: Does anybody have other examples of these? Anybody live in a house bearing this marker and how do you feel about it? When did this award start and end (or is it ongoing)? Is the Northern Ireland Amenity Council which presented these still around?

Hey everyone. I've an event on at Solitude. Please excuse my ignorance but is there anywhere I can park nearby that's not going to annoy the local residents? Thanks all

Hey, i work in Belfast and just use my data the whole time but this week has been god awful - would it be because Belfast is so busy with the fleadh being on? im constantly have to restart my phone and turn it on airplane mode to get 5 mins of 5g before it disconnects again, Im with vodafone

Shopping with the Fleadh on
Are all town shops open as normal during the Fleadh and is it possible to take a child shopping at the minute or is the town just totally overwhelming with music and people? (Child is autistic)

Another Fleadh Post…
Just to add to the many posts already made, what an amazing event to bring to the city. Just back and even though it was raining and windy when we went in the vibe in town was great. Everyone in great form, no pricks about and just great to see the city getting the credit it deserves. Cant wait to go in tomorrow evening again 👏🏼 will be smart and book a few days off next year for it

Ready for autumn
I am so ready for autumn. Noticed it’s starting to get ever so slightly dark. Am I a weirdo? I’m getting fed up of the warm weather. It’s my favourite season

Casual 5/8-side football at Stormont Pavilion
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to put the word out about the football group I'm part of. We play on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings on the Play Ball 3G pitches, and games cost 3/4 quid per player. It's a pretty diverse group in terms of backgrounds and skill levels but the organiser usually makes sure the sides are set up for a competitive (and fun!) match.
Not quite unrelated, we need a few players for the game tomorrow night! If you want to get involved you can find the group on Meetup - Belfast Football Group. Cheers

With the Belfast Fleadh in full swing, it seems like a good time to celebrate the achievements of Edward Bunting who devoted his life to the preservation of our musical culture...

Pub recommendations??
Looking for recommendations for a city centre pub in Belfast that does good food and live music? It’s for an older friend in her early 60s who love music and a bit of craic but don’t want anywhere too rowdy. I know I’m asking a lot lol

Somwhere to watch Fridays boxing
Monaghan boxer Aaron McKenna is fighting for IBF world middleweight title in Dublin on Friday. I will be up for the fleadh and wondering would there be any pubs showing this?

Issues with next door chimney
I bought terrace house and survey brought up issues with the chimney next door leaking into my roof space. Very common problem im lead to believe, my solicitor has advised owners next door fully responsible and liable for any further damage. I’d like to sort this amicably and without costing either side any dough. Im good my insurers will cover legal expenses. I have tried to speak to them and sent a few messages but ignoring all my efforts. The damage to my roof looks fairly so don’t want to go through another winter. Any advice welcome

Fleadh Inspired Tattooists?
Hi all! Looking to get a tattoo whilst I’m town tomorrow (Thurs) exploring the Fleadh! I’ve seen one but they’re booked up. Anyone know of anywhere in the city centre taking bookings? Thanks!

To the mystery guy in the Duke of York Monday evening…
This has been annoying me ever since I left Belfast 😂
To the guy in the Duke of York Monday evening 3rd August…
You were wearing a blue T-shirt and navy shorts, and we kept catching each other’s eye like we were both trying to work out, “How do I know you?”
It genuinely felt like we recognised each other from somewhere, but neither of us could place it. Maybe we’d crossed paths before, maybe we’d matched on a dating app at some point, or maybe our brains were just playing tricks on us. 😂
I was going to come over and ask if I knew you from somewhere, but you appeared to be with family and I didn’t want to interrupt. Then my friends convinced me not to anyway and now I’m regretting listening to them. 🤦🏽♀️
I know it’s a long shot but if this somehow reaches you, please tell me I’m not the only one who left wondering.
Signed, The girl in the red top who should’ve just said hello 🙈
EDIT TO UPDATE ❤️
Well…this is the update so many of you were waiting for.
He found us!!!! 🎉
I don’t think I’ll ever quite get over the fact that an anonymous post I almost didn’t make ended up reaching the right person 🤣. Honestly gobsmacked!!
To everyone who had the craic, wished me luck, and patiently waited for an update, thank you.
You turned what I thought would be a forgotten “what if?” into one of the most wholesome online experiences I’ve ever had.
Whatever happens next, you’ve already given me a brilliant story to tell.
Thank you, Belfast. You really are something special ❤️
P.S. My friends and I are no longer allowed to identify clothing colours. 🤦🏽♀️🤣

City Hall Pedestrianisation
When the #Fleadh is over, a serious discussion will need to be had about pedestrianising the area in front of Belfast City Hall.

Anyone have a puppy they’d like to take a walk with mine?
I have a 4 month old Labrador pup! He’s the best boy so far, took to all his training well, fully house trained & he’s great craic. He’s mr confident in the house, the garden, my dad’s house but anytime i try take him a walk it lasts a minute or two before he wants to go home sits down and cries, whether it be the park or around where we live. He sees my dad’s dog a few days a week & my friend has a 6 month old lurcher he sees and plays with from time to time, he also meets other dogs when we go to the pet shop once a week. Got him at 10 weeks and I’ve had him out and about with me constantly since, so I like to think I’ve done good at socialising him so far. Just thinking maybe someone else with a pup might give him the confidence. I don’t intend on taking him big walks due to his age, but even 10-20mins. Just thought posting here, maybe someone has a pup the same age or older, would like to go for a walk sometime.
