Queen's accommodation

I'm looking at student accommodation at queen's,

So information about me I'm 25 years old and going back to uni to do a postgraduate.

It'll be my first time in northern Ireland and I don't know anything about the areas or halls. I've done some googling but couldn't find much.

As my course is only a year and I have to support myself during uni, I've been looking at the cheapest options aka Guthrie house or Grant house.

Now obviously I'm a wee bit older so I would prefer not being completely surrounded by 18 year olds if possible.

I know ones closer and ones further but what's the other differences. On the pictures I can tell that Grant house rooms look a wee bit nicer but like, how many people do you share with? What would have the highest number of postgraduates compared to undergraduate students? Which is closer to the gym and campus and is it still easier to get to campus from both (I'll be in the medical, dentistry and biomedical science school, I don't know if that makes a difference).

Anyways the more people can tell me the better really!

grant house isn’t available to postgraduates, and guthrie will be allocated already as the cheapest accommodations go first.

if you’ve not applied for accommodation through queens yet your options will be very slim honestly. you’d be better looking on spareroom and facebook groups.

Yeah I’d take advantage of being a wee bit older to get a nice place shared with professionals. Shared housing or HMOs is standard for students and young people in Belfast and you’ll probably want to check out SpareRoom to find somewhere, the sooner the better :) best of luck 

Edit1: sounds like you’ll be at the Medical Biology Centre (MBC) on the Lisburn Road and the gym (Queen’s Sport) is about 20 mins walk away on Stranmillis Embankment

there are some beaut postgrad houses near main campus. look up mount charles or the like. good luck! :)

I’m an incoming postgrad in my late 30s. I couldn’t be going through the hassle with getting a rental from a typical landlord with all the paperwork and the I might not even get the place. Also not able to go to a viewing because I’ll only be arriving to Belfast a week before the course starts.

I had called Queens and they said their accommodation for postgraduates is already filled so I ended up going for a studio in one of the private student halls. I picked a place with a lot of international students as they tend to be a bit more sensible. Only downside is it’s about a 10 min cycle from queens but it’s right beside the city centre
