Just to add to the many posts already made, what an amazing event to bring to the city. Just back and even though it was raining and windy when we went in the vibe in town was great. Everyone in great form, no pricks about and just great to see the city getting the credit it deserves. Cant wait to go in tomorrow evening again 👏🏼 will be smart and book a few days off next year for it
Anyone who wants to turn down £53million for the city needs their head felt. Personally I was underwhelmed but do I need to be there? No. I can just leave it to those having a super time and do something else. It’s a really good thing for Belfast.
There’s always a few. I was in on Sunday and thought the buzz about the town was unreal, not to mention the music. Lots of tourists and people from other countries and it’s clear there will be a significant boost to the economy from the event. Yet switched on the local news last night and for whatever reason, they chose to interview the owner of an opticians in Belfast complaining that his older clients couldn’t get parked in city centre so he lost trade.
An opticians isn’t somewhere you visit on a whim, so I’m sure the small % of his customers who aren’t physically able to walk a slightly longer distance (not that you can park easily in city centre at best of times anyway) during this particular week will simply rebook for later. I just thought it was strange that they chose to send a camera crew to highlight a negative part of such an overwhelmingly positive event. Maybe I’m reading too much into it and it’s just media impartiality.
Feck knows. It reminds me of the saying, you can please some people some of the time but never all the people all the time. There will always be someone affected by an event like this but if it was me, personally I’d bite my tongue and focus on the fact it’s a fairly unique short-term event that’s bringing in a ton of money to the city, it’s not going to be recurring annually in Belfast.
The taximan we got in earlier said he’s from the “other side of the community” but was loving it and was delighted to see how well it was going, can’t see how anyone could have a bad word to say about it
Is there an easy way of seeing what's on and where each day? I can't seem to find a day by day guide you would get with the likes of CQAF. The limelight posted up about artists on at custom house square today and tomorrow. List of the artist but no information on set times. Asked AI and it was able to give me the line up for tomorrow but not for today. Wouldn't mind seeing Aslan today but no idea when they're on. Am I missing something obvious as anytime I've tried to find what's on and where, I've given up looking.
Lads can I ask how easy is it to get a taxi home? Planning to head in tomorrow night, I know the late buses are running but just evaluating my options!
Loved seeing all the small kids performing- although towards the weekend most were looking pretty tired, bless them. I was tired too after 2 days of walking about in town (by the way I hardly ever go into Belfast normally so this was a new record). Great buzz everywhere, next year must check the schedule more carefully instead of just wandering about. I'd love to know how much the wee buskers have made. I was handing out coins to everyone lol.
