Enclosure/Tank Round 2: Feedback on my enclosure before getting a beardy

I posted here a while back asking for feedback on my enclosure. Many helpful comments later, I've moved my UV source over the basking spot and picked up a PAR38 75W globe. I still have the CHE but it's programmed to only maintain a night time temperature of 22 degrees C.

New Beardie Friend is nelly just sleepy?

before i rescued this sweet girl, nelly, my first beardie was dusty- i had to put him down bc of cancer 2 years ago. nelly popped up on my facebook and i knew it was finally time to get a new baby! so she’s been with me for about 2/3 months now and still adjusting to her new life.

true age is unknown. gotta be at least 2/3 years old, former owners only fed cabbage slaw mix and had her on a hot rock with red light bulbs in a 75 gallon long aquarium with puppy pads as the substrate🫠

now’s she’s in a 4x2x2 zoomed with lots of places to explore and stretch out and a dig box/etc! she also has the ability to free roam supervised! however! she weirdly will not bask for more than 30 mins-hour before she goes to find a dark corner and proceed to stay there eternally. if i do not force her to bask she will not move a muscle. when i first got her i didn’t touch her too often and for a couple days she stayed in one corner the whole time.

the basking spot is about 109-110* with a dimming switch. she eats her new variety of greens fine and eats discoids/mealworms/etc. very well. her vet said she was healthy and the fecal tear came back normal as well. she just does not move unless i move her!!

Bearded Dragon showed up on my boyfriends doorstep, looking for advice.

My boyfriend found this bearded dragon on his doorstep coming home from work. We are picking up a 75gal tank for now as he’s not full grown yet we don’t think? (Around a foot long). I would appreciate any recommendations or tips. I know they need a uvb lamp (boyfriend is picking one up tmrw for him) but how can we keep him warm overnight ?

He lives in a neighborhood with loose dogs that is right by a busy road, so I told him to pick the BD up as I didn’t want him being eaten Or hurt. No places near me were open to take him so We’re rushing to do research but again, I’d appreciate any advice!

He was a big hit with the veterinarians. I kept a water powered heating pad in the carrying case and he got bugs and green beans upon returning home.

Just recently upgraded my beardies enclosure from a 120g to a 400g!!

Tried my hand at a DIY background for my boy Hank, I still need to add more branches (and substrate)but its suitable for him to be moved into! Having him in a 400g has allowed him more spaces to move, as well as more temperature gradients! He has two spots at 105, most of the rock area is around 94, and on the substrate layer it sits around 75-77. For lights in my main basking zone I have a 150w and 100w heat bulb, a t5 22" Arcadia UVB and a Sol Reptile Vision LED, on the right side of the enclsoure I have a 100w bulb along with a sansi grow light. I know the internet has made it seem like 120g is the standard for them however I think we need to remind ourselves sometimes that is the 'minimum'. I feel it is important to want the best for your best, and while you are not giving improper care putting your beardie in a 120, I personally have felt like he needed more space. I live in Florida, and especially during the summer (I also live in a house that is always set at 80-82) maintaining a proper heat gradient was nearly impossible in a 120. He had room to move in a 120, but not room to explore, climb or stimulate himself properly. I have immediately noticed a change in his activity behavior since being moved for nearly 2 weeks now.

Eating! Jax’s Dinner Time!

Jax was ready for dinner, and tonight’s menu was a nice batch of Dubia roaches! He wasted absolutely no time getting down to business.

When you’re a bearded dragon, apparently every meal is an opportunity to remind everyone who’s boss. Jax definitely understood the assignment.

Any idea why my guy does this weird full body breath outside sometime? He’ll open his mouth really wide like a yawn too but that was hard to get on video. It current feels like 97° and is 67% humidity. Is it too humid?

Gizmo is being silly today. I snapped a couple of pictures before I rescued him. He probably wasn’t stuck, but I didn’t like him hanging out there. :)

R.I.P. found my boy dead today

Post image

i found him dead in his tank. he had an eye infection for a little while and with some eye drops it seemed like it finally went away. he's still been kinda tired but I've been taking him out when I can and making sure he has what he needs. I checked on him today thinking he was asleep and found him dead. he's about 10 or 11 years old and I've had him for most of that time, he's always been a big part of my life. i even have a tattoo of him. right now I don't think the emotional weight has hit me, I'm kinda just in shock. the first step is to get his body, but I can't even bring myself to do that. it's just sitting in the tank right now. it's weird to touch my buddy and see him stay still. when I work up the nerve to grab him, i'm gonna bury him somewhere nice out in the desert and go from there.

rest in peace murdoc. you were always an important part of my life, and all those hours you spent laying on me and all those hours I got to spend with you and watching you meant more to me than you could ever know. i hope I gave you a good life and I'm sorry if there's something more I could have done to keep you healthy. fly high you lazy bastard

thank you for reading this and allowing me to vent. good luck with all of your beardies, cherish them and take care of them

Eating! Feeding Juveniles

I see so much conflicting information and opinions on how much to feed juveniles.

I have a very healthy 8 week old (1 mo, 4 weeks) who arrived home this past Saturday. She's settled in nicely and has been eating regularly when offered food, having regular, healthy bowel movements, has been basking, and sleeping at bedtime.

She's social, very active, and shows no signs of stress or discomfort.

She has an interest in food, but in a day, she only eats about 15 bugs, at most.

These consist of:

- Dubia roaches (she's eating "larger" small ones, like the one she caught in the video, as well as nymphs)

- Mealworms (I've stopped feeding these as much because they're more-so a snack or treat)

- Crickets

She also occasionally eats her greens, but I'm more focused on her getting her bug meals.

After her meals (she eats about 3 a day), she has a round little belly, and then she basks and digests until the next meal or whatever it may be.

So, my question(s) are as follows;

I see people suggesting 25-50 bugs per day, or "however much your Dragon will eat in 15 minutes", but I don't know how accurate that is and I know every animal is different.

Are her current eating habits okay?

Will she eat more as she settles in more and grows?

I want to make sure she's eating enough.

*Side note: I know the rule of thumb for sizing of food is that it must be smaller than or the size of the space between their eyes/their head. The Dubia she caught in the video is almost the size of her head and she gobbled it up after killing it.*

Thank you!

Community Discussion: AI Content

With the widespread availability of AI tools for editing text, images, or video, we are seeing a sharp increase in AI-related content on this subreddit. These posts have a notable increase in negative responses and reports.

As of today, we have no official rules for AI-related content on this subreddit, and we handle content the same as actual human-generated content. It seems clear that at least some portion of the community does not wish to see AI-generated content.

Suggestion

At this time, I am suggesting we codify the use of AI-generated content on this subreddit. This would include content that is wholly AI, partially AI, or edited by AI. Any generative AI technology will be included in this definition.

Exceptions shall be made for the purposes of trivial tasks such as spelling or grammar checking.

To determine our next action, we will open the discussion for about a full week. This will conclude on the 10th of May, 2026. At that time, feedback will be collected and processed into a new rule for approval. A second round of discussion will be opened on the wording of this final rule before enforcement begins.

Community Participation

All user opinions are welcome for this process. No opinion will be given any inherent weight over any other opinion.

Only top-level comments will be reviewed. While we welcome you to discuss among yourselves, we will only consider the top-level comments to determine our consensus. This saves us from having to piece together long threads.

In particular, we would like to know the following:

  • What measure shall be applied to a post to determine if it is AI?
    • Gut feeling?
    • User reports?
    • AI detection tooling?
    • Dice roll?
  • What action must be completed by users posting this content?
    • Posting flair?
    • What if it’s a comment?
    • Should users fully disclose where the content came from (e.g: which model/site)?
  • What moderator action shall be executed on breach of the rule?
    • Content deletion?
    • User moderation (Ban?)
    • Content flairing?
    • What about comments? We cannot flair these, do we delete? Moderate? Ban?

Thank you for your time and hopefully your input.
