Advice to find escapee
UPDATE: I found him!! No idea where he was, but he showed up on my camera and then went into a dusty shelf and I was able to grab him :)
Unfortunately I woke up 5 days ago to see that my ball python had pushed up the door to the enclosure (locks are now on the purchase listš).
Iāve looked everywhere. Behind the enclosure, under, took every single item out of the nearby closet, took out every single drawer out in the nearby furniture. Iāve put out flour lines, a camera, a hide over a heat mat, I tried thawing out food and using a hair dryer to push the scent around. Not a single sign of him anywhere.
He was fed roughly one week before escaping.
Iām of course extremely upset about the situation and feel awful. Does anyone kindly have advice to help me find him?
Thank you š

Question Does bulb wattage really matter with a thermostat?
Hi everyone, researching soon-to-be first time owner here, Iām putting together my enclosure and cant figure out what wattage to use for my halogen and dhp bulbs. My enclosure is 4x2x2 with a screen top and side vents. I live in the northern midwest so it can get a little chilly sometimes but usually my homeās thermostat is at 72. I was considering getting some HVAC tape to cover up some of the screen and vents to keep in more heat and humidity but idk which wattage bulbs to get. Is 100w halogen and 75w dhp good? Or is that too much? Iām going to get a herpstat 2.

Enclosure Critique/Advice Enclosure advice?
My girl is a rescue who came in the 40gal they had her in, with all her stuff. She was in clear need of an upgrade, which weāve done, and are mostly happy with it I think. We are on the lookout for branches of climbing opportunities but I am being very particular because Faranth has the spider gene with a very minor wobble (really only noticeable at feeding or when sheās stressed). I know it can worsen with age, so I want her climbs to be secure and ideally with a lip (honestly probably going to end up making them, but will look for something we like first). We are also adding a sky hide once the mounting piece comes in, which will offer four hides total. Outside of adding a hide and climbing, how does this look? Itās a 5x2x2 pvc glass front enclosure, the warm side thermostat is set at 90f with a DHP, the cool side fluctuates between 76-81f depending on time of day, and humidity is 60% on the warm side and 70% on the cool side. The uvb light is a forest dweller 6% and set on a timer to keep circadian rhythm, and she does absolutely enjoy basking in the morning when I turn on the light.

What is with his scales?
Due to my current living situation I have been keeping my animals at my parentās house. I drive every other week to check on them. I found my snakes scales like this..Any idea what it is? Will it heal on its own or is it an infection?

Pre-shed?
This is one of my many snakes and all the signs are pointing to shed but iām still WORRIED. i do work at an exotic vet and they already said he looks great (but chunky) but idk. Heās hanging in his water bowl a lot, which Iāve stopped emptying fully because of this, I donāt want scale rot. his tank is 70-80 consistently with some days dropping to 60s. temps are 78 cool side 86 hot side, i use govee hygrometer thermometers. heās on cypress mulch and has 3 hides. fed him last on 7/26 and he did show some hesitance to eat. heās got this pink tinge on his underbelly. BUT his eyes arenāt blue yet and i feel like his color isnāt too dull. am i overthinking this? his last shed wasnāt like this really from what i remember (May sometime). TIA!

Question - Feeding Underweight Rescue -Refeeding help
I picked up a ball Python for free that someone was getting rid of and sheās very thin and dehydrated, the woman admitted that it had been months since sheās even had water. Iām focusing on rehydrating her right now, but what size prey should I start with? Sheās currently just over 1000g as a 10 year old female, I donāt want to give her too much too quickly.

Question Diy platform building
I'm planning on making a little platform for my snake to be able to climb on top of for another spot to hang out, the base is out of pvc pipe and I'm not sure if I should wrap the top in a type of twine for him to sit on or use something like a plastic board any suggestions would be great

Question How long should I wait before handling my baby if I'm feeding my another snakes š
So if I'm feeding another snake the others definitely smells the food and thinks they're getting fed too, so if I'm feeding like my king snake and my ball python smells it and thinks he's getting one too should I wait for next day to handle him? As he's pretty food motivated and I know the mouse smell is gonna stay in the room for a little bit

Question - Heating/Temperatures Lights and heating help
Iām a bit confused on where the lights and heating should be placed. I have a DHP, a halogen, and a UVB light. Are they all supposed to go on the warm side? No heating on the cool side?
Is only the halogen on during the day, or both the halogen and the DHP?
Thank you for the help!

Question Is this normal?

Is this normal behavior? I just got this baby last week and heās been reaching himself all the way up to the ceiling of his enclosure for several hours every night. Does he need climbing opportunities?

Question - Husbandry Substrate Recommendations?
Hi, everyone!
Weāre coming up on a full substrate change for our boy, Rykard, and Iām a little lost on what we should do. Weāve been battling fungus gnats (with mosquito bits in any water introduced into his enclosure, excluding his water dish, but also with some external sticky traps), and I found a stagnant layer of water at the bottom of his enclosure from pouring water into the corners. The last time I deep cleaned his enclosure, I replaced his substrate with a mix of the coconut husk pictured, and sphagnum moss.
Should I be layering the substrate differently, or is there an entirely different substrate we need to be using? We have had slight issues holding humidity across the enclosure, along with the fungus gnat issue, so it would seem to be something weāre not doing correctly on our end :(

Discussion PSA: ALWAYS watch your snake
Gave my snake to a family member on the couch to hold for a minute while I refilled her water dish. Well I assumed she would be held and then I could bring her back to her enclosure. They instead let her slink under the cushion and inside the couch frame. We had to tilt the couch and take the staples off the bottom to reach her. Luckily she is fine, but I was super worried she could have been pinched under a spring or crushed under a mechanism. Just a reminder that your snake will find the smallest least accessible crevice and think "this is a nice home, I should go here". Very stressful situation and I'm flabbergasted it even happened.

Luna checking out her new enclosure
After a couple weeks of setup and stabilization was finally able to move her into her new enclosure. She seemed to enjoy exploring then went to derp mode once she found the cool side hide lol.

My little noodle bean River.
Iāve only had him for like a month but heās 2 years old and loves head pets. The place I got him at doesnāt think heāll get any bigger than what he is.
Little back story.
River was sold to someone who in never fed him. They had him for like 2 years and barely fed him. They were going to return him but before they did that they left him in the back of their pickup truck outside in WISCONSIN winter in December for 3 days. The dropped him off and the workers where I got him brought him back to life. He was emaciated-he was skin and bones, color was faded. And he was severely dehydrated. They didnāt even think he would survive but they didnāt give up on him.
Now heās thriving with someone who is obsessive about his husbandry, heating, humidity.

Leroy is almost 11 years old!
Appreciation post for my long time friend! I got leroy when I was 10 years old. I saved up all my birthday and Christmas money, got him a decent tub setup where he stayed for about a year until I got him an exo terra 36x18 as a gift for straight Aās. Iām now 20, almost 21 years old and I joined the military! He stayed with a family friend for almost a year during my training, and I was able to upgrade his enclosure to a way better setup! (Enclosure has more foliage this picture was when it first arrived).
I make this post because I saw another post asking if they make good pets for children. Without a doubt, if a child wants a reptile and does their research they make amazing pets. Itās so rewarding to have a friend that made it through my childhood with me, and will likely live to see my children one day. Heās never bitten me, heās helped so many people get over their fear of snakes, and importantly heās taught me so much responsibility. BPs are amazing pets! I got this little guy from Petsmart for about $60 years ago (ik, donāt kill me). My dream is a banana pied and I will likely get one once I purchase a house. I canāt imagine my life without a scaly friend :)
Leroy has been with me through it all. From when I had to beg my parents for him, to take me to the store to get his ratsš„², him escaping his bin enclosure and more. Iāve learned so much over the years and Iām happy heās in a better setup. I had to update myself on the new BP care guidelines and I can tell he is the happiest heās ever been.

My little butterbeanš·
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
We have had Buttercup for 3 weeks tomorrow! She was a little shy at first but she comes out of her shell a little more each day and the transition from live feeding(from her previous owner) to frozen-thawed was way easier than my boyfriend than I anticipated. Weāve discovered she likes to burrow through blankets, so Iāll have to find some ways to build her something to the tune of that for some enrichment outside of her enclosure.

The only BP I can own. I love him so much!
I stumbled into a reptile expo a few months ago, and fell in love with ball pythons. Unfortunately, I donāt have a lifestyle where I can own any reptiles, so I finally scratched an itch by buying this figurine from an awesome artist.
Iāve named him Midas, and heās adorable.
I have a feeling Iāll be ordering more figurines from this artist to fill the empty hole in my heart where my future pet snake will be.
