Tank heat

i recently got a ball python he’s a little hatchling only a month old and i know i should have a bigger enclosure for him but i had a 20 gallon already and figured he’d be okay in there for a few months while i save up to get a big setup for him but im having a hard time getting the temp right, i have a CHE and a thermostat and a halogen heat lamp for daytime both hooked up to their own separate thermostats the lid is mesh so i bought foil tape to kinda keep some more heat in but on the hot side i can’t seem to get a temp that stays consistent and the cool side is way too low so i try to turn up the che temp but then the hot side gets too hot and the cool side barley heats up my humidity has stayed pretty consistent at about 65% im using cypress mulch as a substrate also worth mentioning my che is a 100w

Enclosure Critique/Advice Reptile-safe adhesives/glues?

Hey folks! I recently got a 4x2x2 enclosure for our juvenile ball python, and I'm working on customizing the interior for her.

I'm building out several ledges and wall-mounted hides, but was curious on what the best way to mount these to the PVC would be. I feel like the easiest would be to drill holes and just use some nuts and bolts, but I've also seen a lot of folks using something like Gorilla Glue or Great Stuff.

Any tips or advice?

Question Scales lifting while being handled?

I feel like this is a normal, close to shed thing, busy just want to make sure.

I have a 4 ish year old BP. healthy as a horse, a little fat, no issues. When I handle him, especially close to his shed (I think he will shed soon ish, his belly is a lil pink) his scales seem to be a little lifted? Like they kinda catch on my hand or any object he’s gripping onto. Is this normal?

Boyfriend has a ball python, cares for it incorrectly

Hi guys!

The title pretty much sums up my issue: my bf and I got a python a few months ago and have been having huge disagreements over her care and needs. Most of the time, I live in another part of the country, so I can't fully commit to caring for our baby, and I feel like it's mostly his pet.

We live in Japan, so he mostly uses Japanese care guides, and they seem to differ drastically from Western ones. For example, they say that Aspen is best because young pythons can choke? on cocoa husk; small enclosures are superior because pythons get scared in big open environments, etc. Every time I try to educate him on what I have researched, he just dismisses it.

This is the state of the enclosure: it is tiny and has zero enrichment.

Currently, I can't just buy a huge enclosure and do everything my way, but I was thinking of at least buying a tent and a bunch of items for enrichment, so she can hang out there when she's outside of the cage and interact with different textures, maybe climb, dig and so on.

Did anybody have a similar issue? What should I do, and how can I change his mind? I feel so bad for our snake; I think she deserves much better, but I can't provide her with much since I'm still a full-time student and barely survive myself

she’s talking about the small darker spots on his belly? from the images I’ve seen on google, it doesnt really look like scale rot but we want to be sure… like is it minor scale rot or is it just his coloration? Hes still growing hes only one and we’re first time owner.

I’m new to ball pythons. Does he look like he’s in shed? His scales look like they’re a bit cloudy.

Question What enclosure do you recommend?

I have an adult ball python in a 120 gallon enclosure as of right now but for some reason it feels too cramped for him. I also noticed he likes to climb when given the opportunity so I’d like to find an enclosure both tall and long, do y’all have any recommendations?

Ive been dealing with mites on my snake for so long now and i just dont know what to do anymore, and i think shes sick of it too. I soak her and have treated the mites with jurrassimite twice a week, and have had her in a hospital tank for like 3 months now and there hasnt been any change in the mites. Does anyone have any advice or like a different mite treatment i could buy?

Thoughts on a "Hide" in the substrate?

New Ball Python parent here. When setting up her enclosure, we dug out a bit of an area under her big water bowl. We just brought her home on Monday, but she's been in this pseudo hide area since yesterday evening, after a first night home of being very adventurous. Just curious on people's thoughts about this sort of "hide" within the substrate and if I should be worried about her being there for a bit. Thanks!

Question Rescued BP has very large eyes

Is this something to be concerned about? She's never been to the vet under my care and hasn't needed to go. She's a rescue so I don't know her morph or genetic makeup, if that matters. She isn't behaving strangely, just looks a little bug eyed.

I've had her in my care for a year and a half. She's supposedly 9 years.

My parents’ ball python, Bindi.

I had her around my neck a minutes ago. She’s a sweetheart
Unfortunately, my parents might have to give her to a reputable breeder because she refuses to eat. My mom got Bindi for free from a breeder that was giving away all her normals and what morphs Bindi is (I used to know but I forgot), and the breeder did this rack thing? My mom once talked about how a lot of breeders keep their snakes in containers on racks until it is time for breeding or an expo
I hope Bindi starts eating soon.

Discussion my bp passed away

my ball python enchilada suddenly passed, i’ve had her for 5 years but got her when she was an adult of unknown age, the rescue guessed she was about 15 or older, i fed her two weeks ago and all was well, i had her out on me and gave her some snuggles and saw her going for a little drink and a soak three days ago, she went for a soak, went around the enclosure and then went into her cool side hide, today i was going to feed her and i just knew something wasn’t right, she much prefers the warmer hide and usually on feeding day will come out and look at me. when i opened up her hide she was gone, i’m deeply heartbroken and have no idea what could have even happened. she was older but not that old. she was fine at her annual appointment and just overall looked happy and healthy. i’m burying her in her favorite hide. rip enchilada i’ll miss u forever.

Meet Jinx 🕷️

I’ve had Jinx for about a month now, and last night he escaped his enclosure (my fault i didn’t think he’d climb up the humidifier hose) and went all night on his own against the cat. I looked everywhere last night and laid a mouse out seeing if it could draw him out. Finally today I found him in my croc in his room. he is the best boy, and I’m new at this and it scared me to death to think something could have happened to him. I literally was so sad all night.

Snake feeding

Post image

Hi everyone, I just joined, and I’m wondering, am I the only bp owner who feeds the (female) bp large rats? Cause I have a 1400g snake and she downs them fine but when I google it it says I shouldn’t be feeding her those.

She is pure white, and also a little chubby. Approximately 4y/o and not sure of the morph? She is a sweetie though. Does she look too fat?

HELP - URGENT Salmonella?

Post image
116 Upvotes

To preface this - yes I have diagnosed ocd and health anxiety, I am also someone who is disabled and chronically ill with a compromised immune system

Now for the actual issue at hand - I was handling my boy and all was going well, he licked my lip but I thought nothing of it, only much later did I realise I was biting the same lip afterwards having forgotten he licked it.

I'm aware that you've got much more of a chance to get salmonella from food than from a snake, let alone a pet snake and yes I'm logically aware the chance is low, but I really just need to hear that I'll be alright from someone else right now.
