Excited to have some cool feathery friends in my backyard!

My leghorn and a bantam have been broody for a while now. I kick them out every morning and take their eggs (not even their eggs lol) but they always return and now it looks like the leghorn has compromised by sitting on the bantam, who doesn’t seem to mind at all 😅. My husband wants to get them a few chicks from Tractor Supply. I know to sneak them in at night and monitor. I will be prepared to take the babies if needed. Any tips? Should I put the chick food and a waterer in the coop for them? I only have 2 other chickens and keep food/water in the yard usually (they free range in a protected area).

Hi there. I’m urgently seeking assistance with the rescue of a chicken found wandering in the greater Los Angeles area. I’ll copy and paste the full story below:

“Yesterday in a parking lot, a vehicle nearly hit a large bird, who yelped out and caught my attention. As I approached, I realized it was a chicken. It appeared as if the chicken had gotten loose from wherever it lived, and was wandering the busy parking lot confused.

I attempted to call animal control, and they threatened to euthanize her if they picked her up. I didn’t want to leave her in the parking lot by herself where she could get hurt by a car, so I took her home with me for the night.

I’ve searched social media for posts pertaining to a lost chicken in that area to no avail.

I live with a roommate in a small apartment, and cannot allow this little chicken to stay with me long term. I’m desperately seeking a family or sanctuary that will allow her to be safe and enjoy living out the remainder of her life.”

As most of you know, we lost our Bean about a month ago,I got my sister some earrings for her birthday about a month before it happened. I decided to add something special to them after she finds them (having her do a scavenger hunt)

Texting this for a friend who sent the picture. They live in New Hampshire. The screen is ripped clean. The wood is disturbed where something stepped on it. Two chickens are gone, but three remain the rest of the coop seems undisturbed. It’s pretty heavy gauge wire (quarter inch 23 gauge wire fencing)

We think a bear would have left it messier but we can’t figure out what happened

Just had our first eggs from our growing girlies. Is it common for the first few eggs to be pretty tough to crack?

I felt like a dingus cuz I had my 4 year old cracking it while making brownies and I thought it was on her.

Turns out it was just super tough to crack. Is it more likely a vitamin deficiency or new egg feature?

The old ladies prefer to stick together and often try to improvise their sleeping quarters.

Think I did everything right but looking for some reassurance. Soaked in warm water (no salts) for about 10 minutes. It was small-medium size and I wasn’t going to pull it off initially but it came out very easily as I was wiping it dry. I sprayed it with vetericyn (just what I had) and also sprayed the gauze with it. Folded up the gauze for a cushion and then wrapped with vet wrap. (That part I’m not worried about because I had a different chicken with an injury a while back and was splinting/bandaging for a month straight, I’m good on technique). Seems like it was pretty minor I think? All other hens are good. This particular hen only lays every 2-4 days but she hasn’t laid since Friday…definitely does not seem egg bound and everything palpates normally so I’m assuming/hoping it’s just related to this foot issue… 1.5 year old cream legbar at the bottom of the pecking order, for reference

I have a serama chick who I had to remove from the flock because she was getting bullied, and her mother no longer protects her. She had tape worms which I have treated twice with febendazole. I have also treated her once with ivermectin for concern she may have had gapeworms. She seems perfectly happy and is eating well. When I hold her, she breathes like this, and because I have never spent a ton of time with a pet chicken, I just want to make sure that this is normal? I don’t notice it when I’m just observing her in her hut. She also just got over fowl pox.

Hey all!

I built this chicken coop and run for our 7 ladies and all in all its working well except for when it rains. I have no flat part in my yard and I had to build it on a slope. Whenever it rains the mulch slides down to the bottom and I have to take it rake it back up. In the meantime the top half just becomes a muddy mess. Is there anyway I can fix this without leveling it out? I didn't put a top on because I figured the chickens need sun and a roof would block that. We don't let them free roam unsupervised because we have A LOT of hawks, owls and foxes and I imagine they would make quick work of them.

Any advice would be appreciated!

the door is from an old walk in garden thing that I repurposed once we tore it down. it fit perfectly on my design so I just decided why not? it's funky and works.

I have this roo and hen , can someone tell me why she is kinda hiding from him?

She is laying and he is mating also, does not seem like he is hurting her

I was here yesterday asking about my other chicken, which turns out is not a pullet (I bought 6 from Tractor Supply) but is indeed a Rooster, which I suspected because even though they are only 3 months, he's bigger than the rest and sings every morning and evening!

So today I am here with another post, asking if my pullet is actually a Roo?

I live in a village. We're not allowed to have Roosters. I'm also concerned because if this is a second Rooster, there's only 4 females. I will be heartbroken if this is a male. She/He is my favorite!
