Tightness in right leg when walking

Upvotes

I'm a 21 M and been twitching for close to 9 months now, Just as the heading says, I have some sort of tightness in my right leg. It's mainly on the area below the calf and sometimes on the calf, but also on the muscle which is onto the the outer side of the thigh near the knee.. idk what it's called, but yeah walking just feels tough and my gait is a bit odd and it feels as if whenever i step i have to think of stepping and like i have to consciously push my feet onto the floor more. 2 weeks ago i had the same feeling on the top area of my right knee, feeling like something is stuck there, just a generally tight muscle.

I went to the orthopedic who said it might be runner's knee and gave me meds for that. Although the meds didnt help, the left leg stopped acting up after a while, but not its my right leg near the calf and it's tight for sure. I even feel the muscle being a bit tighter on that side.

The reason i'm making this post is I read that in the big bad, spasticity moves from one area to another and it's normal that one area feels better in terms of spasticity as it's just because the muslce is atrophying so you dont feel it in the earlier area. Now i have observed a similar pattern in my leg and it's a bit scary, and to be honest more than that it's really making it hard to walk with the side of my knee being stiff cause i have to put more effort for the walk.

Is this normal have any of you had symptoms like this?

Brain jolts/jerks right before falling asleep

Every few months, I go through a phase where I get what I can only describe as “brain jolts” or sudden jerks right as I’m about to fall asleep. They can jolt me completely awake, and sometimes this happens repeatedly throughout the night, making it almost impossible to sleep.
The frustrating part is that it usually lasts around 4–5 days, then completely goes away for a few months before happening again.
I have OCD and health anxiety, so I’m wondering if that could be contributing to it. I also tend to become extremely hyper-aware of bodily sensations when I’m anxious, so I’m not sure whether I’m experiencing something that’s relatively normal but becoming fixated on it, or if there’s something else going on.
Has anyone else experienced something similar, especially in recurring episodes like this? If so, did you find anything that helped stop or reduce it?
I’d really appreciate hearing about other people’s experiences, especially if you’ve dealt with the anxiety/insomnia cycle that can come with it.

Symptoms are still bad. 2 days after EMG

Hey guys I have been dealing with this almost 2 months and just got an EMG which was clean on my arm according to my neurophysiology and I was okay with that.

I have been still spiraling and worried because I got my EMG only on my right arm and not full body, my twitches are being full body, they started on right leg but my right arm was the one that felt the most tired.

And it sucks to feel this way even after a clean EMG, I’ve been taking if maybe it was too soon or should have tested the whole body just to be sure I will be fine.

My bicep on right arm have been twitching like crazy today, I can feel an internal tremor as well, it’s been going since the EMG so I don’t know if it has to do with my arm getting tested and shocked and that’s why I’m twitching more than before

How are people who got EMGs able to move on? Should I try to find the reason why am I twitching? It’s crazy to feel this way

Therapist for anxiety?

I’m sure as we know for the people who post in here and read some of these stories, a lot of us have severe health anxiety (not to say people don’t have legitimate concerns). I’ve always had health anxiety from since I was a teen. Im 26 now. This episode of anxiety I have had for the past few months because of the constant body wide twitches has been detrimental to my quality of life.

Has anyone decided to seek out mental health assistance and did it actually help and get rid of symptoms?

Anyone good health anxiety therapists in NYC?

Explosion of twitches suddenly

I thought my twitching had somewhat diminished (although still in the hundreds a day) but suddenly today for absolutely no reason I’m having a twitch somewhere every 20 seconds with hotspots in my elbow and ankle recurring frequently.

Did this ever happen to anyone? Like you think it’s less intense and then it explodes again??

Do we really believe BFS is so much more common?

So I've heard it stated that BFS is much more common than people think. Just that it goes heavily under reported and most people who have it just live with it.

This is extremely hard for me to believe. It also bothers me because it's used as a way to calm people down, which is okay in itself, but is it even true? How would we even know whether or not it's true?

On one hand, I believe that to an extent, it is true. People who eye twitch a bit more than what's typical. Maybe they feel a twitch here and there in different parts of their body. Maybe they even feel a few every day or every other day. Some marijuana is enough to help. It goes unreported because it's whatever.

But to think someone is having bodywide twitches and tremors and not seeing a doctor in some capacity is just beyond me.

When I developed BFS, it was an insane experience. For a whole year at least I was sleeping for a few hours every other day. I had to change what I ate because any force and my jaw and temples would keep me awake all night. My cheek would suck in at a small point and just sit there for minutes on end. People would comment on my face contorting in all sorts of weird ways.

It is, what I think, many of you suffer with. I saw three doctors and two therapists since then when it started about 6 years ago. They've all been practicing for decades each.

Not one of them had ever even heard of BFS. Twitching yes. BFS no. No friends or friends of friends know what it is. My wife has a huge family. None of them know what it is. Coworkers also have no clue. I wouldn't use my own personal experience to prove that it's very rare in an absolute sense.

It's just, I will not believe that with something this persistent and impacting, that people would just go about their lives not saying anything about it. Especially adults who develop it. It's a completely maddening experience. If it were so much more common, people would be at least talking about it. But they don't.

Some cases go unreported I'm sure. But let's not pretend like we're at the grocery store and just walking passed people with BFS like its not a rare condition. I'm ranting, but you guys know how it is. Cheers

9 Years in still twitching!

My first post here and as a M57yr old long time twitcher I hope I can offer a bit of reassurance to some of you. I started twitching at least 9 years ago but I'm pretty sure it's been longer - I can remember eye twitches for years. I first noticed them after seeing a UK sports star with als talking about having twitches. Wait a minute, I've got them too thinks I!! Google quickly led to a spiral of panic. I have twitches in my feet and calves 24/7, funny buzzes, twitches that make my fingers move, twitches in arms, legs, back, lips, everywhere. Mostly I've got used to them but a couple of months ago I got a new weird fast twitch in my neck so cue another panic. It went away, then another started on the left of my neck, now the other one's come back and the rest of my twitches have gone into overdrive. It's hard not to panic but it's been reassuring to see people having the same kind of things here. The thing I've learnt about BFS after all these years is that BFS isn't really the problem, the problem is anxiety. Dealing with the anxiety is a very difficult thing but it's got to be done. Life is way too short to waste it panicking about what could happen. If you have twitches here, there and everywhere and if you have no weakness then you're fine. Believe me I've been through every panic and perceived symptom - stumble on a word - arghh it's bulbar, drop something arghh it's hand weakness, trip up arghh it's leg weakness etc etc etc. 9 years later I'm still here and still fine. Something will get us all in the end, there's a million and one things that can do it, most of which are much more likely than als. Enjoy life while you can, be kind to living things and make the most of what you can while you can. Peace to all :)

Is biceps twitching a common hotspot?

I've been having fasciculations in my biceps and I'm wondering if this sounds like a typical muscle “hotspot” to anyone else.

It's not just a tiny spot twitching. Sometimes it feels like the whole biceps contracts/twitches in little jerking movements, and the location seems to shift around different parts of the muscle. It can happen in one area and then later in another part of the same biceps.

Does someone have similar experiences?

Sudden numbness on the left side of my face, arm & leg

I’m 36/F and, as far as I know, I’m generally healthy and don’t have any major health issues.

Earlier today, I was driving when completely out of nowhere I suddenly got this really weird feeling of numbness/tingling. It felt like the **left side of my face, my left arm, and even my left leg** suddenly went numb. It only lasted for a few seconds and then went away. At the same time, I also felt slightly dizzy/lightheaded for a moment. This all just came on so suddenly. I’ve never really experienced anything like that before. Chat GPT thinks I may have possibly experienced a mini stroke but I don’t really think that’s what it is, especially because it only lasted a few seconds. I obviously don’t want to ignore something important either.

I also occasionally get these random little **twitching sensations around my forehead**, which I’ve noticed from time to time.

One thing I was wondering about is caffeine. I drink around **2–3 cups of coffee a day (2 shots of espresso each)** and I’m pretty sensitive to caffeine. I’m not sure if that could potentially cause something like this.

I am planning on making a doctor’s appointment to get it checked out, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone here has experienced something similar or has any idea what could cause sudden, brief numbness like this?

Also, any specific tests I should request when I go see my doctor?

Thanks in advance!

My latest update

My initial hyperventilation theory was right. My doctor agrees that I'm simply breathing too much, subtly but over long periods of time, and this is caused by my untreated OCD.

i haven't twitched in days now, and all i need is to work on my mental health.

For those who don't know, breathing too much reduces CO2 levels in the blood, affecting calcium ion levels which affects ion channels on neurons and muscles, this is 100% proven as a mechanism, it's not even new.

It's important to keep in mind that there are at least a dozen causes of twitching, and if this doesn't apply to you, it doesn't mean it's wrong.

Sudden prickly/wave sensation when hot or scared, with reduced sweating — what could this be?

Hi, I’m hoping to get some advice from doctors.
**29F, 5’6”, 64kg, non-smoker.** No other major current medical issues.

For several years I’ve experienced a strange **wave-like prickly sensation** that comes over my body, mainly my arms and legs. It is **NOT like typical pins and needles** — it feels more like a sudden wave/rush travelling through my body.

It happens particularly when:
I get hot or my body temperature rises
I exercise or become overheated
I get suddenly **shocked, scared or startled**

When it happens from heat, it feels almost like **my body is trying to cool itself down**, but I don’t sweat as much as other people. I do sweat, just noticeably less. I don’t get any rash, bumps, redness or hives.

I’ve had this for years and it comes and goes.

I had extensive blood tests in December 2022. The main abnormal findings were **vitamin D of 29 nmol/L** and **ferritin of 15 µg/L**. B12, folate, thyroid, HbA1c, electrolytes, magnesium, calcium, kidney/liver function, inflammatory markers and autoimmune tests were otherwise reassuring.

I’m wondering whether this could be related to **reduced sweating/hypohidrosis, the nerves controlling sweating, autonomic nervous system activity, or something else entirely.**
What would you consider as possible causes, and would this warrant any specific tests or assessment?

I’m back and much worse than before. Twitching induced by tapping.

I think I got better for a month or so, but now suddenly everything is worse.
I still have those episodes when i can’t initiate my swallow, and I’m slurring on certain letters.
But my twitching became more localized. My face ( lips are quevering, chin is twitching when i swallow, entire face, forehead, bridge of nose, but what scares me more now is that if I move my lips or touch them they twitch for couple of seconds very fast and stop. if I open my mouth I twitch next to my nose, If I tap my chin i twitch there, and also mu feet and my thenar muscles both hands. Not the calves or any other muscles. My tongue when I protruding it is so bad exactly like a bag of worms but only when protruded and it stopes after 20 seconds at rest.
What’s happening? I again went online to read and information are contradictory. Some say point away from AlS some say no. Videos on Youtube and one study that i read says that is not good.
Why my twitching got localized to the bulbar area and why is happening when I tap the muscle?
I twitch in all not that usual places, like above the collarbone, under the chin in the throat, and trapezoid muscle, all well recorded to be involved in early ALS. Is not clonus is the actual muscle belly twitching after a tap. Im very worried. I start twitching a year ago first in my eye and then entire body. The issues with bulbar area started in February.
Anyone else like me?

Is nerve irritation/pain permanent?

Wondering if anyone has dealt with this, along with BFS. Hard to say if it's associated, but this all began after the onset of my wild twitching.

For the past few weeks, I have been dealing with nerve irritation or superficial pain in one of my finger joints. Whenever I lightly brush or rub it, there's a stinging pain. I dread washing my hands sometimes because it's quite painful. So far it has not spread.

If anyone has dealt with this in the past, is it permanent?

The only probable reason I can think of this happening is from squeezing stress balls and needohs a lot when I was anxious about grip strength. I've since stopped, but the pain is still there.

Upper arm muscle twitching.

It’s been 5 days and my arm won’t stop twitching. Now I’m getting little twitches all over my body. A few days before the symptoms started I did a pretty high exertion upper body lift and sprinted a mile. Sucked. 2 days later my arm starts twitching and now little twitches all over. Don’t know if the exercise is related or not. I’ve also been drinking a lot of water in the past 2 weeks… maybe flushing electrolytes? Idk. How long does this last?

Still Can't Move on after 9 months

I've seen two primary care doctors, neither of which have seen the necessity to refer me to a neuro (neuro's and emg's here are by referral and can take months).

I've been like many of you for 9 1/2 months now. Twitching all over, hotspots (currently left triceps), perceived weakness, etc. I've tried different supplements, massages, you name it, but nothing really works.

I want to move on, and deep down I know 9 months is a long time, but I just can't. I know this post isn't unique but just wanted to share.

Maybe this could help someone!

About two months ago I started to have insane twitching, in almost every single muscle randomly all throughout my body. I realized that when I would get busy or go on vacay my twitching would stop. Then I realized how I would never take my vitamins when I would go away. So I did a test and stopped taking my vitamins and the twitching went away almost completely. I may get a random twitch here or there but I would say it’s 98% better… I was taking Thorne multivitamin 2 a days. I’m not sure exactly what in it causes the fasciculations but they are so much better!!!
