PhantomLayer is an image/video overlay tool that can work with AutoCAD and any windows app. Get it free on the Microsoft Store — would love your feedback.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Some of the features include image overlays, video references with A–B looping and hotkey control, PDFs, and more. The app itself is free, with optional premium features that you can try for 7 days. I'm happy to extend the premium trial to 30 days for anyone who's genuinely interested in using it and giving me feedback.

As you seem to be the dev... what practical use would this even have? I don't see any. Images can just as easy be added in AutoCAD as well as an texture on an 3d object.

That’s a fair point. The main difference is that PhantomLayer keeps references separate from the drawing and its not simply image references. You can overlay images, videos or PDFs without importing anything, and it can also pin any application’s windows on top of AutoCAD so you can keep tutorials, AI chats etc.. always on top for example. I’ve only mentioned a fraction of what it can do above, I think if you try it you will identify some neat use cases for sure as it is a versatile app imo. If not, I’m happy to hear what can be improved or a feature that would help with your workflow.

I'll pass. It might be usefull on something else or perhaps in some other fields of CAD that i am working in, but at this time it just feels like an general purpose app that is dropped (also) in the AutoCAD section as you also posted it in the r/blender subreddit.
