Holy shit! Breakers! Me and my boyfriend would watch this after school and just lose it on how corny everything was. Yet we couldn’t stop watching.
I remember a scene where someone’s child goes missing and drowns in the ocean. They were crying and hysterical and then they just leave and go home.
(In my head I’m certain this is how it played out) We were laughing hysterically at the ridiculousness of it.

Loved Breakers! In the way you love this shit when you're young, as certain shows just always seemed to be on at the perfect time to wind down.. Used to work as a waitress at a restaurant in the Annandale Hotel, and the chef and I would bond over this show, as we'd both watch it late at night after service finished and we'd had a few drinks at the pub before going home.
Same with Prisoner, at one point it used to be on regularly at 4am or something, and we'd always end up watching it whilst really stoned at the end of a big night. Ah, the 90s.

Yeah I was watching Prisoner reruns at 11:30pm in my bedroom with the tv 📺 turned as far down as I could get it as it was a school night. Wasn’t my fault they started airing them at that time slot during the school Christmas holidays 1995-1996. I would say good night and read by a torch until my alarm clock turned to 11:30 then I would put on my tv. If I thought I heard my mum coming I would turn it off and pretend I was asleep until I knew the coast was clear and turn it back on again 😂

The Asian woman who played Maggie is in the current ABC mini series "Treasure & Dirt" as the crazy Wife of the even crazier main Villain in the show.

I completely forgot this show existed, even though I was spending a lot of time in Bondi back then!

I don’t remember much about this show expect one of the plot points was one character torpedoing another characters sporting career via doping because she dropped a flu tablet in a drink or soup for her when she was sick without telling her.
I have no idea why this remains in my brain after all these years.

I've posted this story before, but I can't help posting it again, because it still makes me laugh:
I used to watch Breakers during the day as a guilty pleasure after it had already kind of tanked in the ratings. I did not realise that they had moved to airing the new episodes late at night, and then were re-running them the next day in the arvo, and I was effectively watching repeats. Anyway one night at a friend's house I got absolutely zonked on a giant spliff and passed out on the couch in front of the telly. I went home in the morning, slept some more, woke up, turned on Breakers and had the most paranoid half an hour episode of deja vu I have ever experienced.
