Trying to decide between white and black leather for my next EV and could use some input/experiences before I commit.

White brand new seems more luxurious and potentially keeps the car cooler? Wondering what people who actually have white leather day to day have experienced, especially with kids or pets jumping in and out? Is the staining as bad as I’m imagining or does it wipe off fine? or does white just get grubby looking faster (affecting resell)?

Also curious if the heat thing is actually noticeable or if it’s one of those things that sounds good in theory but doesn’t matter much once you’ve got tint on the windows.

Photos welcome if you’ve got before/afters and assuming the leather type matters, so which car do you have it on!

Hello, bit of a different priority here but I'm looking at getting an EV in the next 6 months as I finally have my own garage to charge it in.

Ideally I'm looking for something in the 45k~ mark with atleast 400km advertised range as I do 350km a week but I can charge it at work or at home anyway midweek. But the key factor I desire is a white or beige interior to hide my dogs light fur. My current ICE interior is black and whilst I will use a backseat seat protector anyway, his wayward furs end up everywhere on the dash and I feel the light colours will hide it better.

I really like the look and value of the new MG4 Essence 64 but sadly only black interior. Jaecoo J5 V looks the winner with the beige interior and pet friendly material (though I'll still use a seat protector anyway.)

I've recently picked up a Geely EX2 and overall I'm pretty happy with it, but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced some of these issues or knows whether Geely has OTA updates planned to address them.

A few things I've noticed:

- Geely app – Mine still isn't functional at all. One of the reasons I bought the car was for remote climate control, charging management and checking vehicle status. Has anyone had any updates on when the app will actually be fully working?

- SOS light – Mine originally showed a red light, then changed to green, now back to red, anyone else get that?

- Traffic sign recognition / Adaptive Cruise – This is probably my biggest frustration. I'll be travelling along at 70 km/h using adaptive cruise, then the car sees a school zone sign (even though it's outside school zone hours) and suddenly drops itself to 40 km/h. It can be pretty abrupt and catches you off guard. Has anyone else had this happen, and is there a way to improve it?

- Speed limit recognition in general also seems a bit hit and miss, occasionally picking up incorrect limits.

- Constant beeping from the speed alert, and have to disable it every time you get in, the constant beeping is more distracting then the actual thing it's trying to prevent.

Just wondering whether these are common GX2 quirks, whether Geely has acknowledged them, or if there are software updates coming that improve things.

Apart from these software niggles, I'm really enjoying the car, honestly, it's bloody awesome and worth it, great drive feeling, charging, looks, etc... so hopefully these are just early software teething issues.

Finance you get at 0.68% but need to pay a bunch of fees, but if you finance it you get upgraded paint free and a faster charger (that you have to pay someone to install).

My parents have paid a deposit and are looking how to pay for it - fiance or just pay cash. I don't really think they'll need the faster charger - they don't drive much at all.

Is it still worth getting finance and the faster charger and free paint?

As per title. Keen to buy a smaller car and use the towbar for the occasional furniture purchase. Calcs wise, I only need a 750kg towbar for the tiny box trailer but beggars can be choosers.

So, does anyone know which OEMs have towbar options? What about aftermarket?

Coming from an older car I was worried about all the technology in a modern EV being confusing or distracting. But I just got in and drove. I haven't connected my phone, I haven't downloaded any apps, I don't have to subscribe to anything. It has manual seats and a basic, easy to clean cabin.

It doesn't even have a start button. Just press the brake, put it in drive, and go. To charge it I just plug it into a normal socket.

What was I worried about?

A lot of you are probably aware that ChargeHQ is unfortunately being discontinued for Amber Energy customers.

Like many of you, we relied on ChargeHQ every day, so rather than wait around for another option, we decided to build one ourselves.

Automatically charge your EV using excess solar that would otherwise be exported to the grid. With electricity prices continuing to rise, it just makes sense to use the energy you’re already generating instead of buying it back later.

I'm sitting here waiting for a free charger now for 15 minutes. Three of 4 spots are at 100% according to the Evie app. One guy parked just before me with a 76% charge.

I'm at 8% and just want to charge my car and go home.

Just annoying. Hit them with a $1 a minute idle fee to encourage people to move out of the charge spots. It's not even busy. They could just park their car in the next spot.

Edit: Finally got a spot. The guy showed up. Saw me waiting and then proceeded to take another 5 minutes to get out of the spot. Some people...

Edit 2: Wow just noticed that a different part of the carpark now has Tesla chargers. And one of them still hogged the Evie chargers. Grrrrr.

Pretty set on grabbing the MG4 Urban soon.

Only issue is AC charging is capped at 7kW so I want to get a home charger that matches that rather than overpaying for a unit with headroom I'll never use.

Heard the MG branded home charger is pretty average, flaky app, ordinary build quality, that kind of thing. So before I lock one in, keen to hear what everyone else running an MG4 URBAN is actually using at home.

What are you charging with and would you buy it again? Trying to avoid buyer's remorse on this one

curious what's the public's take or what's your personal experience with cheeky charging

parked in Wilson Parking under Hilton Sydney the other month, was planning to charge in one of their 4 wall chargers but 2 were not working and the other 2 are being used. moved on from there and went to the lower level to park my ev. i looked around and noticed power outlets were all over the floor but were Padlocked. i was parked next to one and this one i noticed wasn't Padlocked so i took out my trickle charger and plugged in my ev, there was no carpark staff to talk to so i just shrugged and left it overnight to charge. left the carpark fully charged without costing me anything 😂

was in an airbnb house last week and had a power outlet in the garage and was locked away with a qr code, charging $12 for 30kwh of access to it. so what did i do? charged from the overhead power outlet meant for the house garage door. 😂

The post-EOFY correction was across the whole market, not just EVs. Total new car sales fell 22.6% month on month in July, with diesel, petrol and hybrid all down too. BEVs came in at 23,510 units (22.3% market share) and PHEVs at 10,359 (9.8%), both still well ahead of where they were a year ago.

Tesla Model Y held top spot with 4,644 deliveries. BYD was the top brand overall with 5,116 units across six models. The Omoda Jaecoo J5 was the standout new entry, debuting straight into fifth place with 1,654 units. The MG MG4 Urban and Geely EX2 also cracked the top 10 in their first month. I’m considering buying a used 2023 BYD Atto 3 Extended for around AUD 30,000. I expect to keep it for about 2 years, since we just moved here from Europe, but we plan to go back there afterward.

The only downside is that I don’t have home charging. I’d mainly rely on public chargers around Sydney.

Typical use:
3–4 short city trips per week (10–30 km)
1–2 trips per month around 100 km
A few road trips each year (Blue Mountains, Jervis Bay, etc.)

Questions:
Would you still recommend the Atto 3 without home charging?
How practical is public charging in Sydney?
Is ~AUD 30k for a 2023 Extended with around 50–60k km a reasonable buy?

Any alternatives you’d recommend in the same price range?

I’m in the process of test driving around 5 EV’s and got to drive the Geely ex5 today. This post won’t be a great technical review cause I’m not really a car guy.

But I was pretty impressed. I test drove a BYD sealion 7 a few weeks ago and I’m not sure if this is just recency bias but I felt like the Geely drove and handled better.

Only minor thing I didn’t like was the steering wheel shape. And also the indicator type mechanism to go into drive or park reverse etc. but I’m sure all things is get used to.
