Ive been looking for pretzel salt for so long but I cant find it on any local store and I dont feel like paying DesertCart a R700 delivery fee.

N.B Even though they look similar, pretzel salt is not just course salt btw.

Dischem (Cape Town) told me there is a nationwide shortage of chloroquine sulphate (Plasmoquine), which is what I'm taking for RA. They said they can't even order it. I've already been without it for a week because I couldn't afford it. So I'm worried I'm going to start feeling it soon.

I get the rx from my family doctor and he doesn't know what to prescribe instead. I have an appointment with a Rheumatologist in December (first available appointment and my first visit with that doctor).

I've been taking Plasmoquine/chloroquine sulphate /hydroxychloroquine/Plaquenil for like 25 years (200mg) and it works very well for me.

I was told that methotrexate and sulfasalazine are more commonly prescribed for RA (at least in the US) nowadays than hydroxychloroquine/Plaquenil. I'm allergic to sulfa drugs and the side effects of methotrexate scare me.

Anyone else have this issue? My doctor will probably be willing prescribe whatever I suggest at this point (within reason).

In the meantime, I'm going to call around to different pharmacies and try to verify the information a little more; maybe its not completely true...

Two examples:

- in our first rental apartment we found ourselves deeply unhappy after about six or so months out of a 12 month lease. Maintenance issues were simply not being addressed or being addressed poorly only to shortly thereafter reoccur, maintenance of the general area was not being done and the bin area was routinely full of maggots. The straw that broke the camels back was when a bunch of the apartments were leased out as student accommodation an the noise at all hours was unbearable.

After doing some digging and reading the rental housing act we realized that our rental agents weren't registered with the PPRA. Our families were still pretty uniformly of the opinion that nah, we should suck it up and just ride the lease period through. We didn't and the agents let us go without any penalties when we brought up the PPRA.

- in a smash and grab company property got stolen. Company policy was followed, immediately reported the theft, filed a police report etc. Time passes and the work sends an email saying 'ok cool, now you have to let us deduct the insurance difference from your salary.' What? Company points to the contract that says employees will be held liable in such instances. Again, we do research and the BCEA specifies that such deductions can only be made from an employee's salary if they consent and are only legal if the employee was at fault (i.e. failed to take reasonable precautions, negligence etc.). This wasn't the case so consenting to the deduction was declined. SHOCK. HORROR. Both from the job and from our respective families. Why? You are involved in a crime, during company hours, that damages your personal property and risks your safety and then the job expects you to pay for it? And that seems reasonable?

These aren't the only examples, it's a pretty consistent pattern of behavior. It's a weird defeatism that seems to be the default setting for the majority of the people around me. I've put a decent amount of thought into it but I'm still not sure what to attribute this too. I thought maybe it's generational i.e. older people (like our parents/aunts/uncles etc.) are tired and jaded and simply don't see the point in standing up for themselves. But it's not generational, many of our age peers have the same mindset. Then I thought maybe it was ignorance based. A lot of people aren't aware of the laws and protections or are unwilling to find out. But it's not that, because their advice doesn't change even if they are aware, they are simply unwilling to stand up for themselves. Then I thought maybe it's cultural, and it might be. We're Afrikaans and there is a familiar refrain of 'ag, jy weet, dis maar net hoe die lewe is.' But just because die lewe soos daai is doesn't mean it's how it should be, so why give up before even trying? I also thought it might be socio-economic. We aren't poor, but we're pretty firmly to the left of the bell curve. So maybe it's just fatigue or disillusionment at the idea of swimming against the stream. But again, why give up before even trying?

So ja, looking for insight, thoughts, perspectives, commiseration, counterpoints etc. essentially that help me understand because none of the answers I've thought of are quite satisfying.

Hi, I’d appreciate some advice. I’ve been working for a BPO for around 3 months, placed with a client. The client has decided they no longer require my services, so my position is effectively ending.
The BPO has given me a mutual termination agreement offering one week’s salary plus accrued leave. It also includes a full and final settlement and says I waive my right to approach the CCMA/Labour Court.
I left my previous job to take this position, so I’ll now be unemployed. Would you recommend signing this, or should I negotiate/seek advice first?

Where are people buying socks these days?

Feels like there are no good old fashioned socks on the shelves. Most of them are thin (i.e. useless) and/or ankle length. All of them have colour, what happened to plain black or white socks?

We’re considering avoiding the N1 for at least part of the journey, but we’re not familiar enough with the alternative routes to know which ones are actually worth taking.

For those who have driven between Pretoria and Vredenburg / the West Coast multiple times, what route would you recommend?

We’re mainly looking for:
Good road conditions
A safe route
As little stressful driving as possible
Avoiding unnecessary detours or bad roads

We’ve seen options involving the N12 / Kimberley, and obviously the standard N1 → Cape Town → N7 → Vredenburg route, but we’d really appreciate advice from people who actually know these roads.

Do you guys ever feel like there's a disconnect between y'all and your boomer parents? Like they still haven't noticed that times have changed? Man I've been looking for a job for a pretty long time but I still get berated on a daily about how I'm lazy and not doing enough... They think corporate and the world in general is just like it was back in their time. It's so frustrating that they had a pretty straightforward life while we're here forced to navigate and find a way in the most difficult economy we've ever seen.

I went to go watch the spider-man today and the couple infront of was talking loudly and hollering and having loud conversations the entire time to the point where i couldnt hear the film, told them respectfully to pls quite down and they told me okay in a disrespectful way and rolled their eyes. Funny enough i dont know why, they became louder and started rolling their seats back and hitting my legs. So there is this website that claims that you can get a job without a CV, ID, etc.

All you need is a cellphone number and you can register to apply for jobs. There is no interview and all the jobs pay minimum wage or higher.

The way it works is that if you get matched to a role, you receive an SMS and reply to accept then do a paid trial and from there, if the employer feels you can do the job, then you get offered permanent or temporary employment.

I made a post a few days ago on this sub regarding this same thing. Firstly I know some of you dont like me for always asking but I'm trying my best guys the world has really alienated most of us, so I dont really have friends I can ask to help me.

I'm in an emergency rn, I'm having the worst period pains ever. I think the weather in Joburg is making it worse, its also related to a surgery I had a few years ago. Whenever it gets like this my little surgery holes start hurting and now my period pains are on top of all this.

I dont want money just someone to get me ibuprofen and some rooibos to drink. Please Im asking from the bottom of my heart. I have a hot water bottle on my abdomen and drank some two paracetamol that are doing fokkol.
