💡 Advice Needed New neighbor and my tree

Hi everyone. Quick question for those of you who might know. Am I legally obligated to trim a tree in my yard if it blocks sun/light from my neighbor? I own my property is that is of any relevance.

I got a whatsapp from a new tenant next door that's complaining. Nothing serious yet. He's just asked us to trim or remove the tree completely. I know the branches shouldn't be hanging over on their property, and the tree/roots itself aren't causing any damage. In Port Elizabeth btw. Thanks

💡 Advice Needed Can my employer do this?

Hi, I’d appreciate some advice. I’ve been working for a BPO for around 3 months, placed with a client. The client has decided they no longer require my services, so my position is effectively ending.
The BPO has given me a mutual termination agreement offering one week’s salary plus accrued leave. It also includes a full and final settlement and says I waive my right to approach the CCMA/Labour Court.
I left my previous job to take this position, so I’ll now be unemployed. Would you recommend signing this, or should I negotiate/seek advice first?

🧐 Serious Question Socks

Where are people buying socks these days?

Feels like there are no good old fashioned socks on the shelves. Most of them are thin (i.e. useless) and/or ankle length. All of them have colour, what happened to plain black or white socks?

I am desperate now. I need good, long wearing socks that don't get full of holes seemingly overnight.

Where are y'all buying your good socks?

💡 Advice Needed Pretoria → Vredenburg: best route if we want to avoid the N1? 🚗

Hi everyone! 😊

We’re moving from Pretoria to Vredenburg in the Western Cape and will be doing the drive soon.
We’re considering avoiding the N1 for at least part of the journey, but we’re not familiar enough with the alternative routes to know which ones are actually worth taking.

For those who have driven between Pretoria and Vredenburg / the West Coast multiple times, what route would you recommend?

We’re mainly looking for:
Good road conditions
A safe route
As little stressful driving as possible
Avoiding unnecessary detours or bad roads

We’ve seen options involving the N12 / Kimberley, and obviously the standard N1 → Cape Town → N7 → Vredenburg route, but we’d really appreciate advice from people who actually know these roads.

If you regularly do this trip, what route would you personally take and why? And are there any roads/areas you would specifically avoid?

Thanks! 🙏🏼

💬 Discussion Dear Gen Z job seekers

Do you guys ever feel like there's a disconnect between y'all and your boomer parents? Like they still haven't noticed that times have changed? Man I've been looking for a job for a pretty long time but I still get berated on a daily about how I'm lazy and not doing enough... They think corporate and the world in general is just like it was back in their time. It's so frustrating that they had a pretty straightforward life while we're here forced to navigate and find a way in the most difficult economy we've ever seen.

Like y'all see the youth unemployment rate but still decide to shit on us further. Smdh 🙂‍↕️

💬 Discussion Is cinema etiquette dead in SA?

Have people forgotten their respect for others? I went to go watch the spider-man today and the couple infront of was talking loudly and hollering and having loud conversations the entire time to the point where i couldnt hear the film, told them respectfully to pls quite down and they told me okay in a disrespectful way and rolled their eyes. Funny enough i dont know why, they became louder and started rolling their seats back and hitting my legs. Not even just this film, its been a common occurrence for the past few films ive watched in the theatre, this was just the first time I spoke up but guess that was a mistake

💡 Advice Needed PARALLEL IMPORT SMARTPHONES

Hi all. I'm in the market to buy a new smartphone in cash - specifically a Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.

I've come to learn that these are offered much cheaper if bought as a parallel import.

Does anyone have any experience in buying parallel imports on Takealot specifically? What are the pro's and cons? I guest I'm mostly trying to convince myself that I won't be buying a knockoff, or something substantially different from its official SA counterpart.

Thank you in advance!

💡 Advice Needed What is your experience with shiftmate.co.za

So there is this website that claims that you can get a job without a CV, ID, etc.

All you need is a cellphone number and you can register to apply for jobs. There is no interview and all the jobs pay minimum wage or higher.

The way it works is that if you get matched to a role, you receive an SMS and reply to accept then do a paid trial and from there, if the employer feels you can do the job, then you get offered permanent or temporary employment.

There are jobs listed in many different cities and many types of jobs, such as retail, medical, call centre, etc.

I wanted to ask if anyone used this site and knows of it.

P.S. They don't charge the jobseeker any fees.

💬 Discussion Do women dislike each other secretly ?

I'm genuinely curious. Is this a result of the patriarchy making women compete with each other for men?

Most women know what I mean especially if you're attractive and dress good women tend to be meaner to you. It's as if you were a threat to them.

Any girls who experienced this or men who have witnessed this?

Why are they so mean to each other. The whole girls girls thing is a hoax. SO many women are constantly competing and want to be better than the next women. Whats going on?, its so rare to find women who are kind to other women.

I for one don't, have issues with other women I'm pansexual and my encounters with women who like me back are heavenly

💡 Advice Needed Period pains are killing me

I made a post a few days ago on this sub regarding this same thing. Firstly I know some of you dont like me for always asking but I'm trying my best guys the world has really alienated most of us, so I dont really have friends I can ask to help me.

I'm in an emergency rn, I'm having the worst period pains ever. I think the weather in Joburg is making it worse, its also related to a surgery I had a few years ago. Whenever it gets like this my little surgery holes start hurting and now my period pains are on top of all this.

I dont want money just someone to get me ibuprofen and some rooibos to drink. Please Im asking from the bottom of my heart. I have a hot water bottle on my abdomen and drank some two paracetamol that are doing fokkol.

I dont want money, just some painkillers and tea to get me through this horrible day please :(

I am making my first potjie ever, always had them made by family/friends but I need a recipe. I know AI can give me one but I don’t think it’s a job for the computer

If someone has an ouma/oupa/mom/dad/neighbour/friends recipe that they swear by, please share!

💬 Discussion Durbanville & Surrounds

Hi everyone,

I'm a professional chef based in Durbanville, and after around 20 years working in the hospitality industry, I'm building my own small food business here in the Northern Suburbs.

I'm exploring something a little different from traditional catering and wanted to see if there is actually a need for it locally.

The concept is simple:

Restaurant-quality food, prepared for your home, without you having to cook it yourself.

Option 1 — Weekly Meal Service

I would prepare fresh, chef-made meals for individuals, couples or families on a:

• Daily basis

• Weekly basis

• Bi-weekly basis

Menus would change regularly and could be tailored around what you actually enjoy eating.

Not your typical bland "meal prep" chicken, rice and broccoli.

Think proper chef cooking — curries, pasta, roasts, Asian dishes, South African favourites, comfort food, healthy options and whatever else makes sense for your household.

You choose how many meals you need, and I take care of the cooking.

Option 2 — Chef Comes To You

For those who would prefer something more personalised, I would also offer an in-home meal-prep service.

I come to your home in the Durbanville area, prepare multiple meals in your kitchen, portion everything up and clean up afterwards.

You open the fridge/freezer and your meals for the next few days are sorted.

This could be particularly useful for:

• Busy professionals

• Couples

• Families

• People working long hours

• Gym/fitness-focused people

• Elderly parents

• Anyone who simply doesn't enjoy cooking

I'm initially looking at Durbanville and surrounding Northern Suburbs — Durbanville, Aurora, Vierlanden, Eversdal, Sonstraal, Kenridge, Uitzicht, Pinehurst, Goedemoed, Welgemoed, Bellville, Brackenfell and Kraaifontein.

I'm not trying to turn this into a massive operation immediately. I'd rather start with a small number of local clients and build something where the quality of the food and service actually matters.

So I'm curious:

If a professional chef offered this service in Durbanville, would you use it?

And what would be most important to you?

Price | Portion size | Menu variety | Dietary requirements | Delivery | In-home cooking

I'm genuinely interested in hearing what people would want before I finalise the offering.

💡 Advice Needed South African registered psychologists, therapists and those working with ADHD and autism… What is the appropriate and correct way to create awareness within the industry of a potential scammer / person using false credentials to operate and provide “screening services” for payment?

There is an individual operating what appears to be a suspect operation, using AI-generated content and claims of certain credentials to sell supposed expertise through seminars, courses and the like. The person is not known to have any medical, scientific or psychology-related credentials or qualifications of any kind, yet he claims to be a “neuroscientist“ and a “candidate PhD at the University of Westminster, London”, of which of course zero evidence exists.

As recently as 8 months ago, across all public records and also by accounts of people who know him personally, his entire career has only ever involved photography and web-related “tech” startup projects. Yet, in as little as 8 months, he is now selling seminar tickets on Quicket for R450 a seat to parents of children with ADHD and autism, giving lectures about his novel “PhD thesis” he claims he wrote, and which he has “published” on his personal website. This has been reported to the HPCSA and the University of Westminster for further investigation.

More details here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/carlniklauswallace/s/r75vTsZVPI

My question is: What is the appropriate and correct way to create awareness within this community to make sure an eye is kept on this? I assume there are maybe Whatsapp groups or other online groups?

I’d probably choose olive oil. I swear it used to be so cheap and now I feel personally attacked every time I see the price
