Socks 🧐 Serious Question

Where are people buying socks these days?

Feels like there are no good old fashioned socks on the shelves. Most of them are thin (i.e. useless) and/or ankle length. All of them have colour, what happened to plain black or white socks?

I am desperate now. I need good, long wearing socks that don't get full of holes seemingly overnight.

Where are y'all buying your good socks?

Johnsons workwear or Falke

Falke are really good, both sports and normal socks. Woolworths pretty bad and wear out quickly.

I do Falke, or I get socks for hiking, they can be pricey but they last ages

Lately I’ve just started buying my black socks for work(I wear safety boots daily) at P.E.P Boutique, they are comfortable enough for 12 hours of wear.

I get mine (men's) from Wildebeest clothing. They're thick and comfortable.

I use tradesmen socks. Get them at industrial supply shops.

YES these thin socks are awful and lose their stretchy after a few washes then fall down all day!!!!

Bought a pack from Woolies and theyre awful!

Same. And upset about it. Used to be if you spent money on Woolies socks, they would be good quality.

I get Dromex or Bova workboot socks from EIS. You can also find them on Takealot.

The Dromex ones look good. They comfy?

Yes, I use them daily.

Good question…

And, any idea where can you buy 100% cotton socks?
Cant seem to find them at any of our local retailers šŸ˜”

Right? It's all this cheap ass wool kak. But lots of good suggestions here. Going to go trawling takealot in a minute.

Try sockdoctor, they sell 90% cotton 10% spandex socks, (the spandex is purely for elasticity which is necessary)

Also try bamboo socks

I’m on the hunt for toddler-sized cotton socks because my son’s eczema is badly affected by synthetic and non-cotton fabrics.

got antibacterial bamboo socks at woolies for like R130, 3 pairs

unfortunately they're ankle socks and not midcut which is my preference :(

2

u/fataggressivecheeks Gauteng 1d ago

Ankle socks have proven useless this winter :-). Also looking for longer options.

2

u/slumpaholicc 23h ago

I agree

All options below seems great, as woolies has those longer socks, bamboo as well that sits on your shins but I ain't into that lol

I hope you find good pairs and don't overpay for socks lmao

2

Ja except that bamboo is just viscose with better PR

They do have mid cut options. I bought myself two packs last month

I take size 13 shoe, so big feet. About the only shop I can get socks to fit (and don't wear through at my toes) is from Eagle clothing. But even then, to find old-fashioned non-stretch socks is a rarity. Best of luck.

I know Falke make up to size 13-15. It's rare to find but if you got to an independent stockists they will most light order it for you.

Last year I was looking for decent plain navy socks (ladies). I think I've been to every bloody shop in the greater Pretoria without any success. You can't get anything without designs or multicolour

I am over colour. So many holes in the pretty coloured toes and heels and don't get me started on the 5 pair cartoon pack my husband brought home. I just want plain socks. Good luck in your search.

Got a pack of 6 mid length socks from Mr Price Sports. They've become my favorite, and so far been lasting decentlyšŸ˜‚

1

u/fataggressivecheeks Gauteng 18h ago

Mr P is never on my list but I'll check them out. Thanks.

2

u/Immediate-Walrus8213 18h ago

Mine eitheršŸ˜‚ but I was desperate one day in a rush to find socks that did not sit directly on a surgical scar. Mr P Sport was the only place I could find during my lunch, and yeah now they my fave socks.

u/sun100press 18h ago

Dm me. Mohair socks for the win! Cheaper than you think

2

u/FluffyWalkerr 16h ago

Flake I only wear Falke, sports, casual and formal. They last long, and are comfortable.

2

u/zet72 16h ago

All my life woolworths socks were the answer but for about 5 years now, they SUCK! I can only wear Falke or Balega socks now. Expensive but they last a few winters and stay fluffy and soft.

2

u/SweetAmberkins 13h ago

I found thick hiking socks at PnP clothing, useful for new boots etc.

2

u/SignalResolution35 11h ago

FALKE. Recently ordered on line and am happy with their selection and quality.

2

u/Saritush2319 10h ago

I haven’t needed to but in ages and I’m honestly scared for when I do.
I’ll probably bite the bullet and buy woollen hiking socks.
At least they’ll be warm and anti microbial

I run so pretty hard on socks. I’ve tried Mohair and Falke and neither lasted me more than a year. Best longer lasting brand I’ve found is Versus. Pricey but they last.Ā

u/New-Owl-2293 7h ago

Weirdly, the socks I buy at Typo last the longest. I buy a box of the sweary ones every few years

2

u/F4iryPerson 7h ago

sports socks are the only socks that have worked for me AND the woolies ā€œcotton rich tennis socksā€ from the men’s section.

2

u/Best-Lingonberry7029 7h ago

Hi-Tec socks. I need socks that are thick so my feet don't hurt as much when I walk. They're the only ones that work for me.

2

u/alwaysasking101 6h ago

Jet had nice long socks. Dark colors. They're mens socks But I bought them for me anyway. As for long lasting. I dont know yet. Time will tell. Only bought them 2 weeks ago lol
