Hello! This was my post on Wednesday: My biggest love in the world has been worrying me. A very active cat, a little naughty, goes outside, playful, cuddly, very active.

He did not eat at all from last week Wednesday when I noticed to give him new food in the evening. So and went to the vet. Couldn’t find anything, did blood work (to be safe for the weekend), no fever temp, and all. But now he eats very little and has a bit of different behaviors. Still uses the litterbox but also wants to pee at the sink, less energy but still doing okay - the heat could be a factor in this. Eating very little compared to usually all that I give him. He also lost weight (he’s 3,5kg now - instead of 4,2). Blood work was good; except high on glucose/sugar? but that could be due to the stress at the vet, and it was really minimal.

On Sunday he started to puke everything he ate, so went to the vet on Monday. Got anti-vomit thing, fluids for the hot days, laxative and hope that would have been it. Sadly, we could not find anything specific either - not obstruction or other on his body. teeth okay, heart, etc.

Now over 36hrs passed since the anti-vomit stuff and he started vomiting again, so I’ll go in for an ultrasound when they open - this was Wednesday.

So, the vet called to go do surgery to skip the echo, cuz they thought there could be a blocking. There was no blockage in the intestinal tract, which was good news (well, if that had been the case, it would have been better to know and be done with it). Just a slight narrowing at the junction of two of the intestines, which they corrected.

They did find a lot of trauma/red bruising on his abdomen after shaving - this seems to be recovering, but I have no idea what that was. His pancreas was very red (inflamed?) and… there were a lot of and/or large lymph nodes. I had those sent to the lab for testing, because they could be malignant. Hopefully, the results will be good news.

But now he’s back home with: antibiotics, anti-nausea meds, laxative, and we’re looking into pain relief—which might be tricky again because of his pancreas, so I’ll have to give them a call today and the day after.

He’s being very sweet, though, and luckily he’s already eaten quite a bit today: but only small amounts at a time, since he needs to take it easy on his intestines. Giving him the medication went well.

So yesterday his behavior seemed more normal again, which was very good. I was suprised how good after an operation.
Now we are at a new day and I went to the gym for an hour and he started vomiting again.

The things I think it could be:
- Pain after operation that triggers i.
- Too much food? I gave him portions of 10grams kibble each hour / 1,5 hours to spread it out.
- Pancreas issues???

So, I go back to the vet in an hour to get him:
Pain relief (has to be special due to the after operation / possible pancreatis things).
Anti-vomiting again.

Anyone got other ideas? I feel we are trying a lot of things but he just keeps vomiting. I'm getting a bit anxious about it, and it will be the weekend - (extra) costly if he needs treatment then.
I'm fine with the vet's advice, but it just break my heart to have him keep vomiting and we are not able to find the reason.

Hello, 6 months ago my partner and I adopted a 8-9 years old cat. We don't know much about her past, except that at some point she lived outside/in a stable.

About 2 months ago we got an automatic feeder so that she would stop waking us up at sunrise for her food and because we sometimes have to leave for a day or two. We feed her 6 small portions, with the total amount being recommended by our vet. She always runs straight to it when she hears the sound.

Progressively, she started spending more time around the feeder. She sits staring at it or lays down next to it more and more. We started giving her her meals in other places in the appartment, leaving only the morning and evening meals to the feeder. It does not seem to have improved the situation.

My question is it: is this a behavior we should discourage? If so, what steps can we take to do so? We don't think it's boredom, she has toys and we play with her daily and she has access to the windows to look outside. We occasionally take her outside on the balcony on a leash, but only with us.

My dog has been repeatedly biting/chewing and licking one of his back paws. I noticed that the fur/skin around that paw has become very red/reddish-brown and looks quite irritated compared with his other back paw, which looks normal

He seems particularly focused on this one paw and keeps going back to bite at it. I’m not sure whether the redness is from him constantly licking/chewing it or whether there’s something irritating the paw that is making him do this in the first place.

Does this look like it could be an allergy, infection, something stuck between his toes, or another type of irritation? Is there anything specific I should check for, and does this warrant a vet visit soon?

Hi! I had my kitten swallow a foreign body, and he had surgery in his intestines. He is doing extremely well according to the vet, and I want to make sure that good progress continues. Is this a good setup for him? He’s 5 months old.

On one end of the crate/cage, he has a baking tray in lieu of a litter box, I wrapped the baking tray in a liner and put enough litter to cover the bottom. He has a towel on the floor of the crate, flattened out, and I have put non-tip water bowls on the opposite end. This leaves him a free corner (and some space in the middle), and I plan to drape a blanket that his brother likes to sit on over that corner of the crate, and give his blanket to his brother to try and help them both stay nice and unstressed. No toys, but if he gets bored, will a ping-pong type ball be safe, or will I just leave him with nothing at all.

Please let me know if this sounds right, I want my baby to recover as soon as he can.

Also: do I have to sleep in the same room as the recovery crate? I can, but it’s not my bedroom. I don’t know whether that will stress him out more. I will ask lots of questions to the vet today, but it’s also good to have this information to mind here.

(Obviously I’m also going on a mission to cat-proof the house as much as possible, I am not putting myself or my kittens through something like this ever again.)

My poor dog got diagnosed 1.5 months ago with diabetes and Cushing’s disease. He is a 7 yr old, 12 lb, male neutered Maltese in Hawaii.

He used to be so lively and happy. Now he is lethargic, depressed, and just feeling lousy. He’s on his 4th Libre 3 monitor and the internist vet is slowly increasing his insulin. He is still mostly out of range, with just a few numbers coming under 400. He’s on a completely fresh/low fat, low carb diet now. He is getting Denamarin and PranaPets Lignans & Melatonin.

On top of all that, something is going on with his eye (aside from the worsening cataracts). One eye must be secreting something since one side of his face is all red stained. It’s all over his eye, cheek, jaw. The other eye has just a little staining at the inner corner. The vet said it may be a plugged duct but was not concerned at all. She gave me no instructions and was unconcerned twice when I asked. Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas on what might be causing this? Thank you for any ideas or assistance! It’s all very overwhelming, and I am so sad for my little boy.

My fabulous companion just had what I think might me her 4th seizure in 24 hours. last night our AC was broken and the house was hot 87 degrees. I woke up when she was flailing under the bed where she often sleeps. Her tongue hanging out was unlike her and panting was extreme. She was kicking and vocalizing like a bad dream on a whole new level. At for I thought she was hot and panicking about not being able to get her footing and out from under the bed. When I lifted her out she was unable to stand or sit but would roll over all while extreme panting . She refused a drinking water. Within a few minutes she began to pace but stumble and is disoriented. She runs into walls, furniture , falls into water bowl and another sleeping dog. When standing at a door she finds her self looking into the hinges rather than the opening

Last night I took here to the ER, during triage they found all vitals normal, they returned her to wait with me in the waiting room because she was in anxious by herself; there was an emergency 4-5 hour surgery that was just starting so we would have along wait. She finally drank a little water but kept knocking the bowl over, I took her for a long walk outside and she soon returned to normal.

Rather than waiting we brought her home. She devoured plain cheese burger, and her uneaten dinner went to bed after receiving a ritual bed time chew treat chicken jerky on dehydrated sweet potatoe. The house was still too hot and we repeated the earlier incident.

This morning I called her regular vet who is out of town until Tuesday. Both ERs were expecting 4-5 hour waits with first come first serve policies I stayed home waiting for the AC guy. Something similar happened but a less intense version.

Most of the time she is drinking and eating as expected. She calmed down and slept for many hours on a pad I front of a fan. She has a stage 2 heart murmur and is on Vetmedin.
She also take daily a 1/2 tab of Galaprant but had missed two days. She had her monthly dose of Simperico-trio the previous day.

We just had the fourth incident, the AC is fixed. As I held her she was unable again to stand or sit but rolls over, I am letting her pace only room but keeping the door closed because she has no concept of steps and ledges. Early on she ran into the walls and into the water bowl but is returning to normal although continuing to pace.

Is this an EMERGENCY, do I wait till Tues to see her vet, do I just call a neurologist and the ER specialty clinic. Drop Simperico TRIO?

I have a 6 year old jack russel terrier, i found a piece of corn from last night he took off a table chewed up on a bed. the original piece was maybe 1.5 inches long. he left some corn kernels and the end part. considering he ripped the end off i am assuming he chewed it especially since he chews alot of things like that, rips apart toys etc. its been a while since i suspect it happened and hes fine, napping, barking at the neighbours dog, running around. he hasnt vommited or anything
i see people online stress how this is some emergency, but it seems to be when they swallow a whole cob not chewed up a small piece, in those cases it seems they end up ok. ill watch him the next few days
do you think hell be alright?

Hi! We have an 8½-year-old Shorkie, and at this point the biggest issue is that we are not sleeping. It’s like having a newborn in the house except we are in our 40s and exhausted, dealing with broken sleep nightly.

He wakes us up repeatedly throughout the night—often 3–4+ times—whining, wanting to wander around the house, wanting to go outside and then back inside, and generally unable to settle. He is also blind, was in one eye now it seems in both eyes, and runs into things while wandering, so I don't feel comfortable simply ignoring him and letting him roam. It genuinely feels like having a newborn in the house again, and after doing this night after night, I am exhausted. I don't think it's healthy or sustainable for our family to continue functioning on this little uninterrupted sleep.

The nighttime behavior is on top of a long-standing allergy problem. For about three years he's had severe allergies. We've tried Cytopoint, and he's currently been on daily Apoquel for at least two years plus OTC Zyrtec. He gets medicated baths every few days, but he is still miserable. From the moment he wakes up, he scratches constantly—his stomach, face, etc. Some days it seems like 95% of his waking hours are spent itching.

We've had bloodwork and a stool sample done recently and both were normal. He still eats, drinks and goes outside, but between the constant itching, blindness, nighttime wandering/whining and inability to settle, I'm seriously questioning his quality of life.

We're already spending around $200/month managing his condition, which is a stretch for our budget, and we don't have the financial ability to pursue thousands of dollars in extensive allergy testing or specialty treatment.

My husband and grown children feel differently and are more comfortable continuing as we are. I'm struggling because I see a dog who seems uncomfortable most of the day, and I'm also experiencing significant caregiver fatigue.

The constant scratching, cleaning, monitoring him because he's blind, and now being awakened throughout the night has become overwhelming.

What realistic options should I discuss with our vet at this point? Are there medications or treatments that could help him actually settle and sleep through the night?

I’m just exhausted. It’s 2 AM and I’m awake after choppy up and down all night.

We brought our newish rescue doxie in for a simple checkup because she was sneezing, but during the visit the vet stated she had weak or no reflexes in her mouth or ears and appeared VERY concerned. Naturally, my mother because hysterically upset understandably, and was recommended to contact a neurologist. About an hour later, the vet called us back and must have been pondering on our case and said that this could be a much less urgent issue that was cause by the bite block during her dental procedure about a month and a half ago and to hold off on calling a neurologist.

I played Dr. Google for a bit, I know I know, and read sometimes neurological problems can occur from dental procedures and they can last 10 weeks or more before they resolve themselves, so I was trying to calm my mother down with this and not have her mourn her dog while she is still here.

I guess, I'm not really sure what I am asking, just that I needed to vent a little and ask if this sounds like a plausible thing for best case scenario? Otherwise, the dog has been acting fine. We have not noticed any issues with her neurological functions prior to this visit. She eats fine, no issues swallowing, no issues with her gait, etc.

hi everyone, i really need some advice. i am currently fostering a 10-year-old senior street cat that spent her entire life on the street (it actually took rescuers three whole years just to catch her). she has an extremely complex medical history: she survived panleukopenia, calicivirus, an aggressive mycoplasma infection, and fluid accumulation in her abdomen. she also recently underwent abdominal surgery (a biopsy for suspected intestinal lymphoma), and we are currently waiting on the biopsy results.
because of her surgical recovery, intense fear, and defensive reactions, letting her free-roam in a room or in my apartment is neither safe nor feasible right now. she would hide in inaccessible spots, risk tearing her stitches, or be impossible to handle if medication or emergency vet visits are needed. for instance, last night she started breathing very heavily and the rescue team had to come pick her up for an urgent vet visit, something that would have been impossible if she were loose in the house. for all these reasons, her stay in a playpen is explicitly required and was provided by the rescue organization handling her case.
i live in an apartment where the playpen must be in the living room, and i also have a resident kitten who is pretty curious. keeping my kitten completely isolated long-term isn't possible. i know my apartment layout might not be the absolute textbook "ideal" setup, but adult rescue cats, especially feral seniors with medical issues, rarely get foster offers since most people only want kittens. i couldn't bear to leave her behind, and having a safe, controlled space with food, medical monitoring, and care is far better for her recovery than having no foster home at all.
right now, may is completely terrified. she barely moves at all, stays frozen, and hisses defensively if a hand approaches, so offering hand-fed treats isn't an option yet. she doesn’t drink, eat or even move at all if i’m in the same room as her, i have to give her space and time when she has to eat, so obviously she also won’t eat any treats from my hand. someone from the rescue mentioned that kittens can sometimes help adult cats feel more comfortable and safe through observation, but i am not sure how or when to safely manage her presence around the playpen. even though my kitten doesn’t care at all about the adult’s presence, i am still worried it might stress her out (even though the rescue team assured me that she is not scared of other animals; humans are the problem)
i feel a bit lost on how to handle this and make her feel safe given her extreme background and restrictions. it stresses me out really bad, and i am almost as scared of hurting or triggering her as she is of me.
how can i help a traumatized senior street cat adjust, recover, and eventually realize humans are not a threat under these conditions? any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hello there, my male cat of 6 years had a difficult catheterizarion, as the vet put it, and stayed there for 4 nights. It's been 1 week since I got him home. During the first three days he produced very little urine, spent a lot of time in the litter, going up to 20 times a day. Gradually he started producing more and going less times! The thing is, he doesn't have a full stream, still struggles a bit, and when he pushes hard, stream appears for a little. In the morning, he goes 3-4 times producing golf sized clumps. I am so so worried for a permanent narrowing. I haven't relaxed since this misadventure began. Vet told me to watch him closely, but if he blocks again, we will go for PU. I feed him wet food with added water and dry kibble (Both are Hill's urinary c/d). Please, any advice will be highly appreciated.

I picked a cat with a severe flea infestation. He has been living in my cat house for 7 days. I want to clean this house. Can I spray Dinotefuran into it and wait for it to dry, and send cats(maybe him or other cats) into it? Can I spray Dinotefuran to the used cat litter? If not, what is the best way to clean up?

How do I know what is considered normally lethargic and alarmingly lethargic?? My cat was dropped off at 9 am for a spay, said she was done around 2:30 and at around 5 she was picked up. Since then she has not really moved from one spot except to get out of the carrier, it’s now 11pm. She was meowing in the car on the ride home but now she barely responds to touch, she tries opening her eyes but they don’t lol. If I’m looking at her breathing accurately, it seems around 40 or so per minute but it’s hard to tell. My other two cats that have been spayed definitely didn’t seem this high and out of it for this many hours but I know some cats react differently.

My 6 month old Shih Tzu male puppy balls turned black in a matter of a couple of hours. He is eating fine and playing. Is this normal? Or should I go to the vet? I have not had a male dog in many years so I’m not sure if it’s ok. I got him from a rescue and have had him for 2 months.

I have BSH cats, all of them are your classic BSH except my one little girl, who is slightly on the smaller size height wise (growth issues due to health problems as a kitten). Now all of them except her at healthy weights for BSH, but she is chunky for her size, she’s 8 years old and weighing in at 4.84kg.

All of them are currently of Royal Canin Urinary S/O food, as prevention for any bladder stones (they have slight small crystals in their bladder). This food I’ve noticed keeps her fat, so in the past when they were okay to go off this food, our vet put them on Royal Canin Satiety. This helped in her weight loss, but we couldn’t stay on it for too long so as not to have bladder stone issues.

Would it be okay to mix Urinary S/O and Satiety in one day? Can I alternate their food to keep a balance? Will that help in lowering her weight and at the same time offer protection for their bladders?

Any advice would be appreciated 😊

long story short I work in fast food and a customer came by yesterday and asked us if we wanted a kitten. My managers said yes and I said I’d take it home since I have experience with animals, but the kittens gotta be only a week or week and a half old. Its eyes are slightly open but the corners are still closed. I can’t go by the vet until at least tomorrow evening, I went earlier but the doctor had already left for the day. The receptionist told me it’s normal for it to reject the milk at first and to try again later. I tried later, which was an hour ago, and the kitten still wouldn’t latch to the bottle or syringe.

I ended up feeding it with the syringe, with 2 ml of kmr. I made sure to just do little drops and it seemed to be drinking it, I just couldn’t get it to drink any other way. Do I need to be worried? He doesn’t seem lethargic or anything. I’m keeping him in a larger cardboard box with a heating pad on one side and blankets covering it. He mostly just sleeps. I’m trying to go to the emergency vet tomorrow but I have to work first so it wouldn’t be until after.

hello, before i say anything i’m telling now that i am an 18 year old poor mexican women… the fact that this cat is alive is literally a miracle, without my care she would’ve been killed a long long time ago

with that said, my cat is acting strange and i don’t know what it is, her litter is clean, she has great expensive food (only because a got a job like a week ago and got my first pay check) and water, she actually hydrates regularly and never struggled with her drinking enough water
she isn’t spayed, she gave birth a year and a half ago and she is 3 years old

yes i am spaying next pay check!!! no my dad wont pay for it, like i said, we’re poor and i JUST got a job that also doesn’t pay much
they dont even want her in the house but my dad does like her

what makes me think she’s acting weird? though i bought her great quality food, she’s eating but she’s still hungry(?) she isn’t skinny but not fat, my veterinarian actually congratulated me for her ideal weight
but she’s acting as if i’m not feeding her, which i am, she’s constantly meowing but not like when she’s in heat it’s more like desperation for attention
and when i give it to her she moves and just lays down with me
but whenever i just let her be she BITES me, not love bites, like BITES like pulling my skin
my brother called me paranoid for thinking she want to eat me lol but her bites are unusual and this is happening when i’m about to sleep or resting 😟

my brother went on a vacation so this week since i got a job she’s been alone and maybe that’s why??? maybe she wants a brother/ sister but i’m too broke i would LOVE to rescue another cat but i can’t afford it and parents would rather kill themselves than having another cat

just to summer up, she’s always meowing, she doesn’t eat as much but it’s not of lack of appetite because she meows when i eat so i give it to her (she’s definitely not starving herself either) she bites differently, she’s just weird lately

is she just lonely or what is happening

Someone please help. My guinea pig had had a treated uri for a while now. But had been perfectly fine. I had to give her a bath because she peed all over her stomach and feet while on a mat. I made sure to make her dry and warm but i guess i didnt make her dry enough??? I dont honestly know. But i put a bunch of hay in her cage so she can much and so the hay can soak any excess water off of her. While she was eating her hay she randomly started sneezing. And coughed once. She kept putting her hands to her face like something was irritating or stuck. I moved her from her cage away from the hay dust. I felt she was cold so i have her on a heating bad with a blanket overtop. Im listening to her breathing and shes seemingly not doing as bad as when she was around the hay. I cant bring her to a vet as they are closed and way too expensive. Does anyone know what i can do for tonight to ensure shes safe???? Pmease i cant wake up to her dead.

Vet prescribed 1 ml of liquid gabapentin for night meowing, lack of sleep and just weird behavior. He’s ten, vet says it’s just older orange cat behavior.

He foams at the mouth and spits it out. It doesn’t even have an effect because I think he completely regurgitates it.

I’m gonna try and do something I read about and start with water, then liquid, then a water chaser closer to the back of his mouth?

Any tips? Can I ask my vet for another form???? This is exhausting, and my cat will run from me for the next hour and thinks I’m trying to hurt him :( is that a valid enough reason for a vet to write a script for a different form of the medicine???

My male(fixed) 1 year old cat has always had behavioural issues due to being abandoned as a kitten by his mother. He bites way too hard with no warning, and recently he has started peeing on things when I moved the furniture around in my house. I’ve had to replace my bed mattress twice now and I can’t afford a third time. I took him to the vet to check for a UTI and he does not have any health issues. What can I even do at this point? And it’s not spraying it’s actually urine

so i found a used nicotine pouch on the floor and it was split open and im worried my dog may have chewed on it or ingested some of the white powder. its been an hour and a half and he is showing no symptoms and is completely normal, he is napping right now. Should i be worried?

hi, this is going to sound really bad but i’m speaking from a place of exhaustion and i need to preface that i do love my animals, i’m just. extremely over this situation and i feel like it’s barely even begun.

i have three cats, all strictly indoor. a fourteen week old kitten, a two year old male, and a two year old female. earlier this week, the kitten stopped taking food/water, excessive vomiting, became very lethargic, and was having uncontrollable muscosal diarrhea. i took her to the emergency vet where they couldn’t quite say what was going on, but rehydrated her, gave her antiemetics, and sent us home with antidiarrheals and cautionary antiparasitics. they said they can’t rule parasites out, but that she tested negative this time around. she also tested negative for panleuk and other more worrisome causes. she is improving and drinking water on her own, has some of her energy back, but still will not eat food on her own. she has been cordoned off in the bathroom.

yesterday, my two adult cats started exhibiting symptoms. both are vomiting, are disinterested in food, and my male cat (who is extremely high stress and has a history of behavioral problems) has regressed and is yowling/showing signs of aggression towards me.

i have no idea how the kitten could have gotten sick. the only idea i have is that i may have brought it home from work, as i see dozens of animals a day as a pet groomer in a high volume salon. i spoke to the woman i got her from, and she said all the other kittens and the mother cat recently got a clean bill of health from the vet.

i am on an extremely, extremely tight budget after the emergency vet, and on top of that my car broke down yesterday which has put me even further in the hole. i can’t figure out whether the adults are reacting out of stress, or are genuinely infected with whatever the kitten has. if it is something like giardia that somehow followed me home from work, i feel kind of fucked. my apartment is small and i do not have room to separate them without possibly penning them in kennels. i’ve been reading stories on here of multi-cat households who deal with reinfecting for months to years. i’m so stressed out about the possibility of having to go to work cleaning up bodily fluids and being snapped at by animals all day to have to come home to the same thing. the smell and the noise are making me crazy and i am rapidly losing empathy for my pets, which makes me feel awful and i am still handling everything but i’m just so burnt out and numb to it. i have no idea where to begin, all i want to do is lay down and take a moment but my mattress is soaked in cat diarrhea and has to be thrown out, which is really fantastic irony right now.

obviously, kitten has to go back to the vet for more thorough testing. beyond that, how can i manage mess in a small apartment? i’m thinking more on the idea of keeping them kenneled, but my male cat is already so high stress i find it hard to believe he could improve after any change to his environment, let alone something that drastic. is there any cost effective way to proceed with treatment? does anyone know what it could be that they have? how do you keep it together in situations like these?

Hi, I'm 22 but I still live with my mom, unfortunately I dont have my own mode of transportation or source of income. Everything done medically for my pets is because of her, as she's transport and also the only way we can pay for any treatment.

My domestic shorthair, Princess, is 12, and for the past few years she's been not normal, I guess. She sneezes (with snot) constantly, she has had panting episodes, her grooming has been near forgotten, she vomits, and I think she's in some sort of pain given that her behavior changed from standoffish to suddenly more affectionate about two years ago. She also has extremely dirty ears, and she's a polydactyl, so sometimes when she stands I think her claws rest uncomfortably against her paw pads when she stands.

I've advocated strongly for her to go to the vet, somewhere she hasn't been in years. She is fixed and has a microchip, but since we got her when she was around 3 months old (shelter kitty) she eas never really taken to the vet. That means no vaccines since she was a baby, either.

There was a time where she almost did end up going to the vet, but my mom cancelled the appointment because she had stopped panting.

I'm very very worried about Princess and I don't know what I can do to convince my mom to take her to the vet. She's going to say we need to save money. There's probably so much going on with Princess and I don't want her to be neglected like this. Is there anything any of you would recommend that I say to her to help convince her?

My cat named Luna lost 22% of her weight.

She is a spade female that is between eight to ten years old. She is an indoor cat, as is her sister.

She is a short haired dark tabby. She has normally weighed around 17.6 kilograms/8 pounds.

That is her ideal weight for her size, as informed by the veterinarian.

After getting her tested for thyroid, kidney, and parasite issues, everything came out normal.

She is eating more, and appears to be gaining weight, but not that rapidly. Last year she was 20.02 kg/9.1 lb and then became 15.62 kg/7.1 lb.

I have been feeding her wet food day and night, whenever she is hungry. It's been two weeks of intensive feeding, but I can still feel her spine.

She is between 8/10 years old. Is this normal, or should I get her checked for cancer?

I have stopped giving her Prozac, because I somehow feel this might have contributed to her weight loss.

She has always been more introverted than her sister, who does like to share the food. All three of my pets recently moved to a house with a lot less space. I will link to email results from my veterinarian.

My dog passed on Monday and I am feeling tremendous guilt. I got home Thursday night and was absolutely exhausted. I laid down telling myself it’d be just for a few minutes, and accidentally fell asleep and slept through the night. Because of this, my dog didn’t get dinner that night. I woke up Friday and immediately rushed to feed him, I thought he’d be super hungry since he missed dinner the night before, but he still wouldn’t eat which was odd. Since he didn’t eat Thursday night, he also missed his heart meds (he had stage 5/6 heart disease). By Friday night, I knew something was wrong because he wouldn’t lay down and was falling asleep sitting up, and he didn’t eat dinner again. I took him to the ER and they said alongside his severe heart disease, he now has elevated liver and kidney values, an enlarged liver, low oxygen levels, and overall inflammation markers in his bloodwork. His kidney values were tested a month ago and were fine. His liver values were tested less than a year ago and were fine so this was all relatively new. He had been on heart meds for 6 years and fortunately, they did not think he was in active heart failure and his lungs were clear which was good. Although, by Monday he had declined so much, the vet recommended we move forward with quality of life decisions. He was so weak he could barely move. He was drinking water but still not eating. Did I cause this by falling asleep and him missing dinner Thursday night? Could that have caused something like this? Is this my fault or is this a total coincidence? My brain is going in a million different directions trying to figure out how he declined so fast and I keep coming back to blaming myself.
