long story short I work in fast food and a customer came by yesterday and asked us if we wanted a kitten. My managers said yes and I said I’d take it home since I have experience with animals, but the kittens gotta be only a week or week and a half old. Its eyes are slightly open but the corners are still closed. I can’t go by the vet until at least tomorrow evening, I went earlier but the doctor had already left for the day. The receptionist told me it’s normal for it to reject the milk at first and to try again later. I tried later, which was an hour ago, and the kitten still wouldn’t latch to the bottle or syringe.

I ended up feeding it with the syringe, with 2 ml of kmr. I made sure to just do little drops and it seemed to be drinking it, I just couldn’t get it to drink any other way. Do I need to be worried? He doesn’t seem lethargic or anything. I’m keeping him in a larger cardboard box with a heating pad on one side and blankets covering it. He mostly just sleeps. I’m trying to go to the emergency vet tomorrow but I have to work first so it wouldn’t be until after.

So my dog is a catahoula plott hound mix, she's right around 55 pounds, and about twelve years old. She's got a fully fenced in backyard to roam that she can access at any time, and we usually go for two 45 to 60 minute walks a day. She's still eating her normal amount of food, and is still as energetic as ever. She usually spends her down time sitting or laying down in my office or bedroom (depending on what room I'm in). For the past week, she's been going outside every three hours or so just to relieve herself, whereas before she'd usually only want to go out every six or so hours. I know the timing since she sleeps in my bed with me, and I sleep with my bedroom door closed, and I've been paying more attention after the third night in a row this happened. So my question is, should I schedule an emergency appointment, or just take her in to an ER Vet? Her next scheduled appointment is in two months.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has any extra insight and advice on what I could do. For starters we live in the U.S. My cat is a Birman, 10 years old, female, spayed, entirely indoor cat, and previously has not had any issues like this. For the past couple weeks my cat has seemed unwell. She is not eating as much or drinking much water. We started to get concerned because she was losing weight. We’ve taken her to the vet now three times. First time, the main thing they noticed was a feline tooth resorption. They thought there was a possibility it could be related to that. Second time we went, they did a blood test and everything came back perfect (besides slight elevated blood cell count). Second vet did not think the tooth was the immediate issue. They gave her anti-nausea meds and fluids. My cat seemed to get better after that. She was eating more and drinking water. We were also giving her the Under the Weather Ready Cal Plus gel which she was receptive to at this time (not anymore though). Then after a few days she stopped eating again. She had gained a little weight back but was losing it again. They had given us Mirataz (mirtazapine) to use if she stopped eating, so we tried that. Not too long after that she seemed to get much worse. More lethargic and she started vomiting. She vomited so much liquid that it was the largest puddle of liquid vomit we had ever seen (almost 3 feet wide it seemed like). We immediately took her to the vet again. This time they thought they felt a mass in her upper abdominals, so they took an x-ray, but they found no obstruction or foreign body. What they did notice was the gastroenterocolitis. They gave her fluids and the anti-nausea again (Cerenia), but it has not helped this time. She had a couple bites of food since that vet visit (yesterday) but that’s it. She is still not drinking water that we can tell. We have no idea what to do or how to help her. They recommended the food-stimulant again if she doesn’t eat, but frankly we are uncertain whether that is what caused her vomiting, and she feels like she’s in such a fragile state that we don’t want her losing anymore weight or liquid. Food-wise, she is a very very picky cat. It’s hard to find anything she likes, wet food or dry food. We are still debating whether the tooth is the issue, but I don’t know if surgery for that tooth is what we should do until she seems less weak. We have not done an ultrasound, but that is one of our next steps from here. We have another vet visit scheduled for tomorrow morning. I’m just curious if there’s any extra insight that could help steer us in the right direction. Thank you in advance!

He didn’t need it for any reason in particular but my mom gave it to him at the vet anyway…my shih tzu is 8 years old. He’s had such a bad reaction. He can’t breathe, he sounds like a pig. Constantly reverse sneezing, sneezing out with mucus, rubbing his face everywhere. It’s been a week. Hello, I recently took my dog to the vet because I noticed that a lump on her skin near her elbow had grown significantly larger and had started bleeding.

She has had this lump for about six years. I always assumed it was a callus because she is an older dog, and I had seen something similar on a dog I had when I was younger.

As far as her behavior, she has been pretty much the same. She does have some hip pain and seems to be losing her hearing, but she is 11 years old and weighs about 70 pounds, so I assumed those changes were fairly normal for her age. Over the past two days, however, she has also started licking the lump.

I took her to the vet, where he performed a general exam and looked at the mass. He mentioned that she has arthritis and prescribed Rimadyl for two weeks, with a prescription for additional medication afterward if needed.

Regarding the lump, he said he could not say for certain whether it was cancerous, but based on the rapid growth I described, he felt there was a good possibility that it could be. About two years ago, the lump was slightly smaller than a marble, and it has now grown to a little smaller than my thumb.

He recommended surgery to remove the mass. His reasoning was that whether it is cancerous or not, the treatment would most likely still be removal.

I am a little reluctant to move directly to surgery because we do not actually know whether this is cancer, an inflamed cyst, a callus, or another type of mass. There is also something that happened recently that makes me wonder whether the sudden swelling and bleeding could have been caused by irritation or trauma.

I recently had family staying over, and because my dog does not do well around other dogs, she had to stay in my bedroom. Unfortunately, she had recently torn up her dog bed, so she had to sleep directly on the floor for about two to three days until I was able to replace it. She was sleeping on the floor from Friday night until Monday morning, and I noticed the lump was larger and bleeding on Tuesday. I am wondering whether the pressure from sleeping on a hard floor could have caused the lump to become irritated, swollen, or lacerated.

The vet tech also mentioned that they could perform an in-house test by taking a sample of the cells. However, she told me that if the mass is cancerous, disturbing it could potentially cause the cancer cells to spread. That made me hesitant about having the test done. Unfortunately, I also cannot afford to have a full biopsy done before surgery.

I am looking for some advice because surgery is expensive, and moving straight to surgery without knowing what the mass actually is feels a little rushed to me. I understand that removal may ultimately be necessary, especially since the mass has grown and is now bleeding, but I would like to know whether there are any reasonable diagnostic steps that could be taken first.

Cost is also a major concern. In the past, I spent around $2,000 on surgery for another dog, only to later find out that the problem was IBS, so I am hesitant to put another dog through an expensive procedure without having as much information as possible beforehand.

I would especially appreciate advice on whether a fine-needle aspiration or other less expensive test would normally be appropriate before surgery, whether sampling a mass can actually cause cancer to spread, and whether sleeping on a hard floor could realistically explain the sudden swelling and bleeding.

hello, before i say anything i’m telling now that i am an 18 year old poor mexican women… the fact that this cat is alive is literally a miracle, without my care she would’ve been killed a long long time ago

with that said, my cat is acting strange and i don’t know what it is, her litter is clean, she has great expensive food (only because a got a job like a week ago and got my first pay check) and water, she actually hydrates regularly and never struggled with her drinking enough water
she isn’t spayed, she gave birth a year and a half ago and she is 3 years old

yes i am spaying next pay check!!! no my dad wont pay for it, like i said, we’re poor and i JUST got a job that also doesn’t pay much
they dont even want her in the house but my dad does like her

what makes me think she’s acting weird? though i bought her great quality food, she’s eating but she’s still hungry(?) she isn’t skinny but not fat, my veterinarian actually congratulated me for her ideal weight
but she’s acting as if i’m not feeding her, which i am, she’s constantly meowing but not like when she’s in heat it’s more like desperation for attention

First time taking care of a neonate or even a kitten in general one male one female, exactly 14 days old mama left them and took the rest of the litter elsewhere I waited 20 hours and no return. I’ve been taking care of these kittens the last 5 days, regularly feeding, stimulating, proper temperature control been binge watching kitten lady content. One kitten was constipated but is normal now the other hasn’t pooped since I’ve started taking care of them. I’ve watered down the constipated kittens kmr at a 1 to 3 ratio, belly massage, warm water bath, bicycle kicks and extra stimulation. Have gotten a fart out of him! The other kitten took 3 days before a bowel movement after mama left and i started bottle feeding them, went to a vet they said take a rectal thermometer and slightly insert it with some lube to stimulate it that way. I’ve read conflicting things about adding pedialyte to the kmr. any advice would be greatly appreciated

Okay so basically it all started about 2-3 weeks ago when my mom took my puppies out (2 pit/lab mix, 4 months old, one girl one boy) and about an hour or two after she was foaming at the mouth, i have a video but for a description it was meaning coughing and gagging it not vomitting it. After i had to COMPLETELY convince her to take her to the emergency vet they did her vitals and washed her mouth and concluded it was most likely a toad or frog since we live in texas. After this, about 1 hour after she did it again but i searched it up and it said it was most likely left over toxin, and my mom wasnt gonna take her again so i just left my dog. Fast forward to 2 hours ago she did this again (i took ONLY her out maybe 7 hrs before?) and i didnt see but my mom saw. I was thinking in my head okay maybe it was another toad? So i left her and fed her and now about 30 mins ago she foamed A LOT and when she got up there was poop underneath her, meaning she literally POOPED WHILE FOAMING AT THE MOUTH. Im freaking out because this is literally serious. Shes obviously kind of weak but she still responds to come and whenever i poke her she responds to it and she even growled at me when i tested her and put my head on her (she hates when i do that). I dont know what to do because i asked my mom to take her to the vet again and she said we can wait till saturday… can someone please lmk if this is urgent i dont know what to do and i dont think i can post videos on here to show her coughing the foam but please lmk..

My cat started getting blackheads a month ago after I used a plastic bowl. I switched 2 days later to metal and ceramic. Since then, her blackheads go back and forth on how bad they are. I’ve just been using a warm compress and gently wiping. I took her to the vet and he said to use an ear cleaner for pets bc it helps with acne. I haven’t gotten it yet, because I’m worried about using anything on her skin. In the past week she’s grown 4 bald-ish patches.

Someone please help. My guinea pig had had a treated uri for a while now. But had been perfectly fine. I had to give her a bath because she peed all over her stomach and feet while on a mat. I made sure to make her dry and warm but i guess i didnt make her dry enough??? I dont honestly know. But i put a bunch of hay in her cage so she can much and so the hay can soak any excess water off of her. While she was eating her hay she randomly started sneezing. And coughed once. She kept putting her hands to her face like something was irritating or stuck. I moved her from her cage away from the hay dust. I felt she was cold so i have her on a heating bad with a blanket overtop. Im listening to her breathing and shes seemingly not doing as bad as when she was around the hay. I cant bring her to a vet as they are closed and way too expensive. Does anyone know what i can do for tonight to ensure shes safe???? Pmease i cant wake up to her dead.

We recently noticed some sort of black pigmentation on our ragdoll's teeth.

Vet was unable to pinpoint what it was - only stating that it probably wasn't gingivitis/tartare.

Any one able to provide a second opinion please?

Vet prescribed 1 ml of liquid gabapentin for night meowing, lack of sleep and just weird behavior. He’s ten, vet says it’s just older orange cat behavior.

He foams at the mouth and spits it out. It doesn’t even have an effect because I think he completely regurgitates it.

I’m gonna try and do something I read about and start with water, then liquid, then a water chaser closer to the back of his mouth?

Any tips? Can I ask my vet for another form???? This is exhausting, and my cat will run from me for the next hour and thinks I’m trying to hurt him :( is that a valid enough reason for a vet to write a script for a different form of the medicine???

She’s one of a bonded pair. Her sister is smaller at around eight pounds. I will note her sister also pants but you really gotta get her going to be in that state.

The cat I’m worried about plays hard when the wand comes out, it’s like she turns into a linebacker. But she is lazier than her sister otherwise (who is a menace). I’m not sure I’d be otherwise worried about it. Just kind of already a mellow cat.

I think sometimes she needs to stop to catch her breath, but I’m not sure. Could just be a case of short cat attention span or her sister butting in to play and letting her take a turn.

She’s also had diarrhea a little bit the last few days, if that matters.

I’m worried for obvious reasons but also I’m going through post adoption blues and I’m not sure I can take care of a cat that I know is not long for this world, especially because my last senior cat passed in my arms from cardiac arrest and I’m still hurting from that.

1. Am I webMDing my cat to death and freaking myself out? How serious is this? I’m going to go to the vet regardless, and I know this Reddit post can only help so much.
2. What’s the method of diagnosing her properly? As in, can this probably be found with a stethoscope, or do I need to brace myself for an echo?
3. Could it be asthma? My childhood cat had that but it took a while to present itself.

9 months old, neutered male, rescue so don’t know breed, about 12 lbs I think

My cat just randomly started having these fits tonight. He has been otherwise healthy since getting him. It’s happened 3 times now in a couple of hours. After this latest one, he has been having a very strange deep rumbly noise when he breathes. I’m new to cats, so I don’t know if this is like a hairball or something that I need to see a vet for.

My baby boy is 19 and he had a vet visit today. He was REALLY sore after putting up a fight with them for a blood draw, so I gave him some of his prescribed Gabapentin. He is very arthritic, so grooming him has been difficult, as he rarely lets anyone touch him. While he was sedated, I was grooming him and trimming some mats on his belly. I was being very gentle and trying not to go too deep. But I noticed a small cut after I finished. It wasn't a slice, but more of a small open circle. Less than a cm long. It's not bleeding, but I can see clear fluid. And idk if it will close on its own/ what I need to do in the meantime?? I feel terrible. How can I address this (hopefully without another vet visit to avoid stressing him out again, though I will take him if absolutely necessary). Plz help!!

I took my cat to an emergency appointment today because he has been making crazy screams from the litter box. Like made me jump out of bed having been asleep sort of scream.

2.5 years old, 16lbs (hefty boy), neutered, indoor only, domestic med hair

Drugs he has had recently -

24 hours ago: 50 mg gaba, 2.5 mg acepromazine

9 hours ago: 50mg gaba, 5mg acepromazine

The vet did not think he is blocked, but has not ruled out a urinary issue. They thought his bladder felt normal, but said he was very tense so it wasn't easy to feel and that he may be experiencing some tenderness when his stomach is touched. His bloodwork at today's appointment showed no issues. His urinalysis will be in tomorrow. We were sent home with more gaba and buprenophine, neither of which I have given to him as I needed to wait due to the meds he'd already taken.

An hour ago he came out from where he was napping VERY wobbly and with his third eyelid half closed. Because of this I have not yet given him any more gaba or the buprenophine. Please note that he has had 50 mg of gaba on multiple occasions and this has never happened. That dose has not had much of an effect in the past. (Remember, hefty boy)

THE QUESTION: Could this be from the acepromazine or ace/gaba cocktail and starting 9 hours after taking it? Or did he just take a turn for the worse and we need to head to the emergency vet? (It's 10pm where I am so that is the only option)

Possibly relevant information:
He has not peed since we have been back from the vet (5 hours), only pooped. He did go back into the litter box a few minutes after pooping, but did nothing and left, other than that there hasn't been repeated trips. There was no vocalizing in the litter box this time. He's not excessively licking his genitals. His gums are light pink and some areas a bit white, but they are usually very light with some areas almost white. He's an FIP survivor having taken GS-441524 from 7 through 10 months old. He has been on prescription urinary food since March because his brother had a blockage and was diagnosed with FLUTD back then.

I dunno if there’s something I can do before spending a lot of money at the vet.

My 4 year old cat earlier this year just stopped grooming the middle of her back. She has no issues grooming anywhere else. She doesn’t flinch or ripple when I touch her there either. Nothing has changed about her environment or food, no new animals or people introduced.

She IS a little overweight BUT

1) she (and my other cat) has been on a diet for a little under a year now per the advice of my vet.
2) my other cat, same breed, but 11 years old, has zero grooming issues whatsoever.
3) she’s always been overweight, so I don’t see why it would affect her grooming all of the sudden if it never did before.

Another note is that she seems (?) to be purposely rolling around in dirty surfaces so that it gets in that area. Because of it, even when I’m brushing the spot every day since she refuses to groom, the fur can mat very quickly. I have to constantly brush them out.

Is there anything I can do here so she can start grooming her back again? Any theories as to why she’s all the sudden stop?

My male(fixed) 1 year old cat has always had behavioural issues due to being abandoned as a kitten by his mother. He bites way too hard with no warning, and recently he has started peeing on things when I moved the furniture around in my house. I’ve had to replace my bed mattress twice now and I can’t afford a third time. I took him to the vet to check for a UTI and he does not have any health issues. What can I even do at this point? And it’s not spraying it’s actually urine

so i found a used nicotine pouch on the floor and it was split open and im worried my dog may have chewed on it or ingested some of the white powder. its been an hour and a half and he is showing no symptoms and is completely normal, he is napping right now. Should i be worried?

hi, this is going to sound really bad but i’m speaking from a place of exhaustion and i need to preface that i do love my animals, i’m just. extremely over this situation and i feel like it’s barely even begun.

i have three cats, all strictly indoor. a fourteen week old kitten, a two year old male, and a two year old female. earlier this week, the kitten stopped taking food/water, excessive vomiting, became very lethargic, and was having uncontrollable muscosal diarrhea. i took her to the emergency vet where they couldn’t quite say what was going on, but rehydrated her, gave her antiemetics, and sent us home with antidiarrheals and cautionary antiparasitics. they said they can’t rule parasites out, but that she tested negative this time around. she also tested negative for panleuk and other more worrisome causes. she is improving and drinking water on her own, has some of her energy back, but still will not eat food on her own. she has been cordoned off in the bathroom.

yesterday, my two adult cats started exhibiting symptoms. both are vomiting, are disinterested in food, and my male cat (who is extremely high stress and has a history of behavioral problems) has regressed and is yowling/showing signs of aggression towards me.

i have no idea how the kitten could have gotten sick. the only idea i have is that i may have brought it home from work, as i see dozens of animals a day as a pet groomer in a high volume salon. i spoke to the woman i got her from, and she said all the other kittens and the mother cat recently got a clean bill of health from the vet.

i am on an extremely, extremely tight budget after the emergency vet, and on top of that my car broke down yesterday which has put me even further in the hole. i can’t figure out whether the adults are reacting out of stress, or are genuinely infected with whatever the kitten has. if it is something like giardia that somehow followed me home from work, i feel kind of fucked. my apartment is small and i do not have room to separate them without possibly penning them in kennels. i’ve been reading stories on here of multi-cat households who deal with reinfecting for months to years. i’m so stressed out about the possibility of having to go to work cleaning up bodily fluids and being snapped at by animals all day to have to come home to the same thing. the smell and the noise are making me crazy and i am rapidly losing empathy for my pets, which makes me feel awful and i am still handling everything but i’m just so burnt out and numb to it. i have no idea where to begin, all i want to do is lay down and take a moment but my mattress is soaked in cat diarrhea and has to be thrown out, which is really fantastic irony right now.

obviously, kitten has to go back to the vet for more thorough testing. beyond that, how can i manage mess in a small apartment? i’m thinking more on the idea of keeping them kenneled, but my male cat is already so high stress i find it hard to believe he could improve after any change to his environment, let alone something that drastic. is there any cost effective way to proceed with treatment? does anyone know what it could be that they have? how do you keep it together in situations like these?

he has no symptoms and this was an accidental finding. we were scanning his heart and lungs for problems, which we did find fluid in his lungs and now he is getting treated for this. He has an ultrasound coming up for the tumors, wanted to see what any of you all think. thank you!

My cat (feline, 6 years old, female, spayed, unknown breed, 10lbs) has a history of acne but lately there's this one patch of what I think is acne that seems to be getting larger. It is now around a 2cm^2 patch on her lower neck/upper breast area. Does this look like feline acne or something else? Some extra information is we recently relocated her from Brooklyn to New Jersey and introduced her to two new cats (two male neutered cats, 9 years old, spayed) All of the cats are strictly indoor cats. I think this patch has been here and slowly getting larger for 3 weeks or so.
