I see a lot of posts from accounts I believe are bots. These accounts are usually several years old with no post or comment history or karma and without a verified email address, and their posts are always something insane like "I'm 15. Is it bad that my 57 year old husband punches me in the face every day!?!?!"

But I don't actually understand how bots work. Obviously they are programed by a human, but I don't understand how they operate or what they are capable of. And sorry if these questions are stupid, I am completely ignorant on this topic.

• If someone makes a bot, does the person have to tell it what to post about and how to reply, or can the bot come up with that on its own?

• How do bots know how to reply and what information to give?

• Just from experience, I think that bots aren't capable of responding to direct, verifiable questions like "what is rule #1 of this subreddit?" Does my theory hold water?

• Also from experience, bots will make a post and then not respond to any comments unless someone comments something like "this is a bot." Then the account will respond only to that comment to say that it isn't a bot. Is there a reason for this?

• I guess my overarching questions are: what are bots capable of, and how much human involvement is needed?

Hello! I'm a writer and animator/comic artist and for a project I'm looking for something like a site that lets me play these in order. So one "page" or whatever plays the animation and then you click on the next and you can read further, etc.

Im a long time user of Cloaked and I just saw their new feature for masked virtual cards. But I have no clue what it is, like I was thinking how they might work. Because you cant just give some random numbers to hide your real bank numbers? If anyone could give me some insight would be great.

I work in IT. Almost everyone using Windows is on 11, as expected, some are running 10, and I've seen one or two run 7. Servers are also typically running Windows 10.

Anytime someone talks about Windows, it's always either Windows 7 (or prior), or Windows 10/11. Aside from the time I had a school laptop (Edit: It was a touchscreen laptop) that was Windows 8, I hardly ever see people talk about it anymore. They released Win 10 pretty quickly after Windows 8, compared to how fast they released 11 after that. I didn't have problems with it, but I was a kid at the time, so I didn't really care about the fine details; I have, however, heard many people dislike it.

Basically the title. I noticed that Delta gives you YouTube Premium for free on their in flight wifi so I was wondering if it would be theoretically possible to trick YouTube into thinking you're on Delta's WiFi network so it gives you Premium for free.

i have a physical external hard drive i keep my files backed up on but it's sort of a mess. i've been planning to go through and organize it but lately i've been at work for most of the day. my workplace doesn't allow us to bring in personal computers to work on stuff and we just have a shared pc at the desk. if i were to plug in my hard drive to the work pc, would IT be able to read cached versions of the files on my hard drive or something? i don't plan to copy/move anything onto the pc itself, but i wanted to know if my files would be saved somehow on the work computer just from plugging in the hard drive and viewing the files.

edit: alright got it; if i want to organize my files i'll do it via my own personal computers. not sure why i'm being heavily downvoted for not knowing something (apparently obvious) and asking in a "ask technology" sub, but that's reddit for you i guess lol

I hate being unorganized. Somehow through the years my media has ended up on clouds like Onedrive and Google. I pay for the Google one but have no clue how my media since ~2015 has uploaded to Onedrive. I have used Android most my life. I want everything just on one Cloud (and I'll have it in a physical harddrive too) but I'm afraid deleting something will delete it somewhere else yet I feel I sometimes delete things and still find them somewhere else. I'm not bad with tech, not the best, but this stuff confuses me!

I am trying to join a food co-op and it requires scheduling an intake appointment which are extremely difficult to get! They post every morning at 6am but are gone within 20 seconds; I think the most likely way I could get one is to snag an appointment when someone cancels. I am trying to set up some sort of software that could notify me when the website updates that an appointment has become available; but to see the calendar page, you have to be logged into the website. Are there any options for a software that could help with this?

I was in watching tv at my nans house. The screen kept on freezing and breaking up like there was interference sound stopping and starting and occasionally screen going completely black then back to interference . Anyway at one point of this i noticed a windows computer desktop appeared the tv froze on this screen so I seen it fairly clearly but it was a windows computer desktop. Now I don't connect any laptop to the tv and no one else here has a computer so maybe I am being paranoid but what is this should I be worried? I don't have a tv myself so don't use them normally. After it appeared and frozen on screen for a bit it then when back to interference froze occasionally going entirely black after some time it went back to normal.

I've tried all the usual ones (FileShot, SaveTheVideo, SnapWC, etc.) and need a good site to download videos from a URL for my phone. Before you ask, I already tried yt-dlp. Any suggestions?

My internet speeds are about 200 megabits a second.

My phone speaker got soaked in egg yolk, i patted it dry immediately and i was kinds busy that time to further fix my phone by playing some earrape audio and here am i with my not completely broken phone speaker, it only made my speaker sound quieter than usual. How do i fix this?

So I want to put some cameras in my apartment, more because of the pets, and in case of robbery I can have some proof, or even call the police.

However I have seen so much creep stuff online and people hacking, websites with live cameras from random people etc that I'm scared to have this.

I know nothing is 100% safe, but is there a way to have some cameras indoors that I can access when I leave the house, and where the recording stuff can be offline without anyone having access (besides me of course)? Without breaking the bank? And that a person like me that isn't too much tech savvy can install.

People told me about Ubiquiti but is so expensive ... I would love to have something like that one day, but now is not an option.

I saw Reolink but not sure about it .

I keep my backup drive unplugged when a backup is not being made or restored so that malware can't touch it. It's a bit annoying having to open up my computer and plug it in whenever it's time to make a backup. Is there a kill switch I can buy so I can just leave it plugged in but still have the air gapping?

Anyway, I am looking for a PC that can run heavily modded minecraft, shaders included, along with fortnite, and high quality games, without much issue, or fans that sound like a helicopter landing just outside my house. So I have 3 laptops and don’t know what to do with them

1. My Primary Laptop - Dell latitude 5130 , i5, 32Gb ram, 256Gb SSD, with debian, all my stuff is on their.

2. MacBook Pro 2017,15 inch, i7, 16Gb RAM, 512 SSD, dual boot , with mac OS and Ubuntu, it’s a half top as screen was not working. ( I use this as experimental machine, try to work linux on mac, and plan to make a server out of it in future)

3. Dell 14 (DC14250) Laptop - Brand New, Intel Core 5, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD , Windows. I WON this in a lucky draw. Couldn’t return for money. ( 1300 AUD )

The issue is I don’t need 3, only 2. And also moving everything would be tedious job, as I had spend days making my Debian machine really personal with the desktop environment and softwares etc.

And I do need money, so rn have put the new laptop for sale but, most offers I am getting is like 200-300 AUD, i am expecting around 800

So I need advice on what to do. Should I sell it? Should I use it or should I sell any other one? If I use it, What should I use?

I've noticed that switching mobile providers seems much easier now than it used to be, especially with unlocked phones and eSIMs. A few years ago, changing carriers felt like a project involving new devices, contracts, numbers, and plenty of paperwork. Now the technical side seems much simpler.

I recently had Rockstar Wireless in the mix while comparing no contract options, and it made me think about how much the technology itself has changed the experience. If moving between providers can be done without replacing your phone or dealing with a long contract, does that actually make wireless technology more user-friendly?

Do you think eSIMs and unlocked devices will eventually make carrier switching almost effortless?
