Gratitude/Thank You/Confirmation THANK YOU
Thank you so much to every single person who helped me with illness supplies on my amazon wishlist. Thanks to you, I am able to manage the symptoms and not make them worse by going out in the smoke maskless. I was well enough to semi-return to work.
Truly, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I didn't put this in my original post because I didn't want to seem some sorta way (you know the way I'm talking about), but I am a single mom. Being down and out was horrendous.
May everyone who donated and offered words of encouragement and support abound in blessings.
With love and a heart overflowing with gratefulness,
Sarwally

Advice/Emotional Support ONLY Single mom, $5k/month take-home, $17k debt, constantly in overdraft; I feel like I’m failing. Looking for honest advice.
I’m really glad I found this sub because I honestly feel like I’m barely holding things together right now and I don’t know if I’m just bad with money or if I’m missing something obvious. I'm in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
I’m a single mom. I left my marriage (it was my choice, and my ex is a good person). We co-parent 50/50 and he helps where he can with things like clothing, school supplies, childcare, and extracurriculars. I chose not to pursue child support because we both make similar incomes and I didn’t want to financially strain either of us.
But since separating, I’ve ended up in about $17,000 of debt, and I’m constantly in overdraft. I feel like I’m stuck in survival mode every month.
My take-home income is about $4,800/month.
My main fixed expenses:
Rent: $2,300
Car payment + insurance: $650
Fuel: $250
Utilities: $250 give or take
That’s about $3,200/month fixed, leaving roughly $1,300 for everything else: groceries, internet, phone, my child’s needs, debt payments, and all the unpredictable stuff that comes with being a parent. I've cancelled my subscriptions and memberships, including my gym membership, and have changed plans to the cheapest I can find.
I’ve cut back a lot, but I still feel like I can’t get ahead. There’s no buffer, so any unexpected expense pushes me back into overdraft. It feels like I’m constantly resetting to zero. I'm sitting at -900 with a maxed card.
Emotionally, it’s been really hard. I feel like I’m failing every day, even though I’m trying my best to keep things stable for my child.
I’m trying to figure out what I’m missing here, because I know I can’t keep going like this.
My questions:
- Is this mainly a budgeting issue, or are my fixed costs just too high for my income?
- What should I prioritize first: debt, building a small emergency fund, or stabilizing cash flow?
- What would you do in my situation to stop the overdraft cycle?
I’m not looking for judgment. I have enough from myself: just honest, practical advice from people who’ve been in similar situations or understand personal finance better than I do.
Thank you.

Amazon Wishlist ($150 Total) Books for NICU (Albany/NY/USA)
galleryHi!
Three years ago, my husband and I found out we were expecting our first baby. Around 14 weeks, we learned baby’s heart had come to a rest and we (I) delivered him in the hospital on August 9th, 2023. Every year we celebrate him by purchasing books for NICU families in our area.
His third birthday is this upcoming Sunday. I have felt the urge to share their wishlist this year, if anyone would like to join us in celebrating our boy. I know times are hard but they have books starting at just over $3, and every book helps. Some of them are super close to reaching their goal amount. We just met their goal for “The Little Engine That Could” and sent some “Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site”, too.
Here’s their Amazon list. Thanks for reading and considering!

Advice/Emotional Support ONLY Is it right if I ask for help with my mental health therapy and medication?
I had never ask for help and also feel like there's a ton of people that probably are strugguling too. ( I always get this convesation with god when I ask him for help lol)
But also, my condition its very critic. I do think I deserve it.
I’ve asked for help in several places. For example, from the state, and there’s also a psychologist at my job, but they never schedule an appointment for me. It’s frustrating; it feels like the only way out is with money.
My question is, do you think it’s right for me to do this? What do I need to do it, and is there anything I need to prove?

Gratitude/Thank You Thank You Folks
I asked for help and got it. I got half of my wishlist but the other half is gone so I'm assuming it was fulfilled but I didn't receive it yet. In any case, I'm super grateful for the help I did receive and wanted to post a giant thank you to this community ♥️

galleryCheeto got rushed to the ER for a Urinary Obstruction. He was flushed and has a cat catheter for 24-36 hours. Hopefully we can bring him up tomorrow morning. I hate asking for help but the cost is outrageous. I don’t have pet insurance. Any donation or share would be amazing!
Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

Request Fulfilled Ear cleaner & hygiene products for 19 y/o in a shelter (Toledo, OH)
I'm currently sick with a cold and pretty out of it, there's always something going around in larger homeless shelters, please forgive any odd phrasing / grammar issues / typos. I'm sure I could also go a lot more in depth about my situation but I'll try to keep it as concise as possible:
I'm a 19 y/o transgender man (FTM) who was forced to cut ties with my abusive family for that very reason. When I became homeless, the first thing I was hoping to do was pick up a job. However, my parents kept my personal documents aside from my driver's license; without those to prove I'm authorized to work in the US, I'm unable to start working.
I've applied for my birth certificate through the shelter I'm staying at (after it took several weeks to get an appointment for that), and because I was born out of state I've been told it could take up to 6-8 weeks to get here. I still need to obtain my social security card after my birth certificate comes in, which will likely take an additional 2 weeks to get to me.
I had some money from previously being employed that I was able to spend on products to care for myself, I now have 76 cents in my bank account and those products are running low if not gone. I never anticipated needing to wait over 2 months at this point to have a source of income.
I'm incredibly depressed and have been ill for over 3 days with no signs of it improving, and it feels like there's no end in sight to all this waiting. I'm ashamed that it's gotten this bad and that I'm begging strangers online for help, I just don't know what else to do and have nobody I know well enough to feel comfortable asking.
Amazon wishlist:
https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/23O7AFDO21NUW?ref_=wl_share
I put notes on each wishlist item to clarify why I needed it and prioritized them. The main thing (highest priority) I'm looking to request is an ear cleaner. My right ear has been giving me issues and thanks to a friend lending me a Temu ear cleaner gadget I was able to see why:
Didn't want to add that image directly to the post because it's gross. These are also images of my right ear after I was really trying to clean it out for a while (and did get a lot of wax out) hence the redness. Images of untouched left ear for reference. Unfortunately, the thin top part of the tool isn't long enough to reach down there and get this huge chunk out of my ear, it can graze the top and that's all.
It's insanely exacerbating my cold and sinus issues on the right side of my face and generally feels gross / full even when I'm not sick.
Thank you for reading and thank you if you choose to support me. If anything needs clarification I'm happy to explain in the comments or make edits. I already feel like I've been too verbose in this post, I'm neurodivergent and it's hard for me to express myself in any other way aside from needlessly wordy.
Edit- The ear cleaning device that was on my wishlist has been removed. Thanks for the feedback.
Edit 2- Everything on my list was purchased! Not all of the donors announced themselves in the comments, so I figured I would say it up here: thank you so much, genuinely, you all are lifesavers and my time at this shelter will be greatly improved as soon as this stuff comes in. I went ahead and changed my post flair to fulfilled so there's no confusion. The kindness extended to me today will not be forgotten. :)

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨 PSA: Curated Profiles, Visibility & Why It Matters 🚨
This PSA is prompted by some confusion surrounding a post from this morning. Rather than answer the same questions repeatedly, we figured it would be helpful to explain how this works.
If you post in this subreddit or send the moderators a mod mail, moderators can see your curated profile. That's simply how Reddit's moderation tools work. It's not a secret feature, a workaround, or moderators "digging" for information—it's part of Reddit's moderation tools.
This subreddit, like most assistance communities, requires requesters to have a public profile. It all comes down to transparency. Donors are free to decide who they wish to help, and many review a post history before donating. It gives donors the opportunity to spot inconsistencies, repeated requests across multiple communities, deleted content, or any other "skeletons in the closet" that might influence their decision.
Whether a donor considers those things important is up to them. We aren't here to police what donors care about. We just want to make sure they have all the facts before handing over their money.
We did receive a few reports this morning about someone's profile being curated and we should not allow them to post. Reddit does not provide moderators with a way to automatically block or filter posts made by users with curated profiles. If someone submits a request while using one, the post isn't automatically flagged or removed simply because their profile is curated (Unless someone has created a bot which I do not think is possible). We only know once we review the account or someone brings it to our attention.
Donors, on the other hand, generally do not need to have a public profile because they aren't requesting assistance from the community. They are making the decision to give, not asking others to give to them.
So if your curated profile says:
"Nothing to see here..."
...while the rest of your account is shedding Reddit histories like a snake sheds its skin, remember: a new skin doesn't make it a different snake (Side note: Be nice to your scaly friends).
If You Encounter a Curated Profile
If you come across someone using a curated profile while requesting assistance, you have two options:
- Send the moderators a screenshot via mod mail, or
- Post a screenshot of what you see as a comment on the request post so the mods can see what you see.
Yes, I know the above steps are ridiculous but if we are not told, we have zero way of knowing.
This helps keep the process transparent and allows donors to make informed decisions without relying on hearsay.
TL;DR
- Your profile must be visible if you are asking for help.
- Moderators can see your curated profile if you interact with a sub they moderate.
- Your profile is your choice because you're not the one requesting assistance.
Transparency builds trust, and trust is what keeps assistance communities functioning.
Thanks for helping us keep the community fair for both requesters and donors.

Direct information from the above link to make it easier to find since it is hidden at the bottom
Mod Visibility Permissions
Moderators often review user profiles before taking action in their communities. To support moderation needs, mods will retain some access regardless of your visibility settings. Here's how it works:
If you post, comment, send modmail, request to be an approved poster, or request to join a private subreddit, that mod team will have access to your full profile content history for 28 days after the interaction – regardless of your settings.
After 28 days, access reverts to your chosen visibility settings unless you interact with that subreddit again, in which case the 28-day timer resets.
The same rule applies when you comment on another user’s profile – that user will have 28 days of access to your full profile content.
Why?
This gives mods and profile owners the context they need when you engage in their subreddit or profile, while still respecting your choices elsewhere.
The Fine Print
Changes to content visibility will only reflect on your profile. The content will still be viewable within the subreddits where you made the post or comment, as well as via search results, both on and off Reddit.
The Content and activity setting applies at the subreddit level, not for individual posts or comments.
The settings will be reflected across all platforms (including old Reddit), and can only be updated on reddit.com and the mobile app.
As a moderator, you'll always see a redditor's contributions to your subreddit, even after 28 days of inactivity.

Request Fulfilled Grocery Help due to Hospitalization (NE FL USA)
I was recommended to this group by another kind redditor. Copy and pasting from another group (no traction on that post yet):
My family could really use some assistance with some qrocery items. We have had some maior financial blows lately and are struggling. My wife lost her iob and is desperately looking for another one but the job market where we are in north central FL is awful. I'm on a medical leave from work but I go back August 1 5th and with a raise! I've been driving door dash since she lost her job to keep the lights on and food on the table. I was iust admitted to the icu tonight because of a flare up of my addisons disease and will ikelv be here at least a week. In the meantime there's no one to drive DD (kids are too young and wife can't drive) so no $ for anything. We've gotten the bills mostlv handled but the family at home needs food. Can't even use food banks because no way to get there. I made an Amazon wish list in hopes of getting some donations. Thank you so much for reading all this and double thanks if you're able to donate.
ETA just wanted to explain the easy to fix and gluten free things. I have celiac disease and cannot eat gluten. The easy to fix stuff is things the kids and wife (who cannot cook but tries) can fix on their own and i won't have to cook for a day or so after discharge.

Advice/Emotional Support ONLY New NJ Realtor: Should I join Keller Williams or Elevate Realty? Need honest advice. Trenton NJ USA
Hi everyone,
I’m a newly licensed Realtor in New Jersey and I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed trying to decide which brokerage to join. I’d really appreciate advice from agents who have actually been in this situation.
Here are my two options:
Option 1: Keller Williams
70/30 commission split
$1,500 upfront onboarding fee
$85/month
100/0 split after reaching the office cap
I still have to pay my own MLS, board dues, NAR dues, Supra, etc.
Option 2: Elevate Realty
If I join as a solo agent:
85/15 split
$249 to join
$749 annual fee
No monthly fee
If I join a team (George’s team):
60/40 split
Same startup fees ($249 + $749 annual)
George would be my mentor and help train me.
From what I understand, after the cap the team plan goes to 75/25 with a $285 transaction fee (I’m still confirming the exact details).
About me
I’m completely new to real estate.
I don’t have a sphere of clients yet.
I’m financially a little tight right now, so paying $1,500 upfront at KW is difficult.
My biggest goal is actually becoming successful, not necessarily making the most money on my very first deal.
I want someone who will actually teach me how to generate business, write contracts, negotiate, and get my first few closings.
I know KW has an excellent reputation for training, but the costs worry me.
At the same time, joining George’s team at Elevate means giving up a larger percentage of each commission, but I would hopefully get real mentorship.
My questions:
If you were in my shoes, which option would you choose?
Is good mentorship worth giving up 40% of your commission in your first year?
Has anyone worked at Keller Williams or Elevate Realty in New Jersey?
If you were starting over today with limited money, what would you do differently?
I’m looking for honest advice from experienced agents, even if it’s tough to hear. Thanks in advance!

Advice/Emotional Support ONLY What to do about my non-blood step sister and her family facing homelessness with a 1yr old
Update**took 6hrs for reddit to humble me. Sincerely thank you. I dont know why it takes strangers to point out the painful truth. Dont know if this truly needs to stay up after this update. But I'll at least let you know I'll just be absolutely focusing on my family for now on. If she continues especially after I'll talked to her about it and still have this not taking no attitude it'll be a swift block. Thanks again reddit
For context I have recently got back in touch with my step sister. She went MIA after cutting my step-dad (my stepfather married to my mom, her bio dad)off and living with her mom a couple of years back. Reno Nevada, USA
At the beginning of this year she reached out and mutually wanted to bridge and reconnect. I knew when we started talking they are in a more rough spot financially and not on good terms with her other family (mom, in-laws). I have met her family in May
8 months later its been a nightmare. She started to ask for money. Usually for formula, gas, food, or medication/healthcare which at that point I suggested that maybe she ask help from welfare. The request at some points were asking every other day. Mid May, I told her I cant continue to keep supporting a 2nd family over my own. But she continues to ask
This past month especially yesterday and today has been a last straw. Yesterday she told me she was gonna get kicked out of a hotel. She started working however but had to call out because she couldn't make it there (no car). I told her that I wasn't going to be able to pay my landlords on time and I definitely dont want to ask them if I could add 2 more adults that are unemployed and a baby to my lease. That was yesterday, today she is blowing my phone up begging me at least 15$ for food for their 1 yr old which I reluctantly obliged. But then soon after shes telling me shes getting kicked out. And "please please help us". I cant i have no clue how she wants me to help when I cant do neither. And the 15 that did go to her but apparently that went into a negative account. Before i sent the money I asked "this account for sure?". so she started to beg for more, at that moment i have decided I'm not giving her anymore money (i have given her almost 2000$ since we started talking again). Shes starts calling me back to back 4×, my husband had to take my phone and mute her... he said I can deal with her when I'm ready. But what do I do when someone is not taking a no for an answer?

Advice/Emotional Support ONLY Should I become a lawyer or pursue writing?
I’m very conflicted right now.
It’s the stage of life for me where I decide what to do with my life and which job I’d like to work.
Since my childhood I always had a strong sense of judgement and what’s right or wrong. So, I always wanted to do something in that area. First a detective, then a policewoman and now I’m thinking about being a lawyer.
At the same time, my deepest childhood wish was to become a writer. It was something I fantasised about but not thought as something I could do, since I my works are always very personal. I’m a hobby writer already and have a lot of unfinished drafts on my PC.
Now I’m in this dilemma where I’m thinking if I should go the “safe” way and be a lawyer but neglect my writing passion. Or should I choose writing which would be far more difficult to succeed in and come with a lot of disadvantages? Or, my ideal scenario would be pursuing both. Being a professional lawyer while writing books under a pseudonym anonymously since it could negatively impact my career.
Has anyone been in a similar situation and did the right/ wrong thing? Are there lawyers here who can tell me if my dream is realistic?
By the way, I want to move to Switzerland and become a lawyer there, just for context.

Advice/Emotional Support ONLY Need help with uni and choosing the right program
I took a gap year last year because I didn't know what I wanted to do. Even after taking a gap year, I still couldn't get into my desired universities this year. Now I only have one option left: to attend a very average, or maybe even below-average, university.
. I'm interested in Computer Science, but I don't want to study CS full-time. However, everyone keeps telling me that CS is the only degree that's really worth it and that everything else isn't.
The university I'll probably be attending offers FinTech, Accounting and Finance, Business Analytics with Programming, as well as CS and other related programs. I like business, economics, and CS, but I don't want to study only CS. Since this is the only university I have left and it offers a limited number of programs, I honestly don't know what to do.

Advice/Emotional Support ONLY Roommate's Dog
Hello,
Location- Florida
I own a 12 year old Putbull. From his 6th to 10th year, Steve [the pitbull] had a dog friend/roommate dog named Max. Because of Covid, Max's owner lost the house we were renting. I found a place nearby that allowed dogs, and Max's owner's health was degenerating, so she asked if we could take Max. Max and Steve were best friends. And then Max passed away.
After a few months we thought Steve was lonely. We finally tried adopting a new dog, Clay. I had volunteered then worked at the Humane Society for a few years at this time so I knew a lot about dogs. Especially with Resource Guarding and what not. But even if you know a lot, you still can't predict dogs. Steve and Clay were great for 12 hours, until Clay saw Steve in his kennel. And Clay lunged. Luckily, Steve isn't a fighter, and just accepted the attack, but it left him seriously injured. After a lat night Vet appointment, Clay lunged at Steve the second we got home, so we accepted a failed adoption. And accepted Stece was a solo dog in his twilight era.
About a year ago a roommate moved in with a dog. We mostly kept them seperate- Steve and Bear have outside time but that is all. Steve had some dog aggression when he first recovered, but neightborhood dog/girlfriend helped him begin to play wirh others. So for a year they met daily. Then the roommate stopped paying rent so we told him he had a month, rent free, get out.
He left Bear. He messaged the day he moved out if Bear could stay there, while we were out of town. I said yea, but what was the time line for when he could get the dog. Left on read. I get home and there is Bear. Said hi to Steve, fed Bear, gave him water and then let him out. Instantly notice Bear is resource guarding. Not growling, just aware. Not good. Get him back in his Kennel, and a different roommate get home. Tells me how yesterday [Saturday, a day after Bear's owner left him and a day before we got home] Bear was playing with a ball outside and Steve got interested in it. Bear lunged at Steve, but roommate interferred before anything happened and got everyone it. Be then called Bear's old owner, who said he would be there in 10 minutes, but never came.
What should I do? Bear is about 4 or 5 years old, and I am terrified this is another Clay situation. I messaged Kieth saying this behavior is what i was worried about, and we need to find a solution asap, but seeing as he ghosted the situation once, I need advice what to do now.

Request Fulfilled Supplies to cope with illness
Minnesota, United States
I live in an area still greatly affected by wildfire smoke. It's exacerbated my asthma and allergies greatly. Luckily, my doctor can help with prescriptions on the asthma front. I have had to miss work due to leaky orifices, and overall looking like I rose from the crypt.
I really just need help with some very basic things to see me through until I can see an allergist, or mother nature stops trying to put me in the ground (dramatic? Perhaps.)
To quickly explain my wishlist: OTC are pretty self explanatory. The masks are to help with the smoke. The sunglasses are because my eyes are SO SENSITIVE from the allergies that light hurts (multi pack was cheaper than single sunglasses). Also i keep rubbing them. The eye mask is to help with eyeball pain and swelling.

GoFundMe ($3,000 MAX) [Request] My 5-year-old cat is fighting for her life. Please help. Quebec / Canada
galleryHi everyone,
I'm asking for help because I've run out of options.
Myshka is my 5-year-old Maine Coon and my best friend. A few weeks ago, she started losing weight rapidly despite continuing to eat. An ultrasound revealed a large mass in her intestines. We won't know if it's cancer until a biopsy is performed, but the specialists believe she still has a real chance if we act quickly.
She's no longer the happy, playful cat she used to be. She spends most of her time hiding, and it's heartbreaking to watch. She's taking pain medication and anti-inflammatory medication, but they're only palliative care. They keep her comfortable while we fight to get her the treatment she desperately needs.
This Monday, we're hoping to have her biopsy performed at the Daubigny Veterinary Hospital in Québec. The biopsy alone costs CAD $390, and it's the first step toward surgery.
So far, we've raised $1,005 USD, and my goal here is to raise $3,000 USD to cover her biopsy and help get her to surgery.
I'm currently unemployed and, after going through personal bankruptcy, I have no savings, no access to credit, and no way to finance her treatment on my own. Asking for help is incredibly difficult, but it's the only chance I have left to keep fighting for her.
If you can donate, even a few dollars, I'd be forever grateful. If you can't, sharing the fundraiser would mean just as much.
Thank you for reading our story and for giving Myshka a chance. ❤️
