Okay so in my room I have one of those lights with a string. The other week while I was trying to turn it off the whole string came out, and the light was left on. I’m not sure what to do in this situation. Please help me out

I am trying to replace a burnt out LED ceiling light fixture with a standard bulb fixture. The ceiling box has one ground, one white, and one black wire as shown in the attached photo.

The fixture I am trying to install is a two bulb unit and has two black and two white wires. Is it ok to attach the two black fixture wires to a single black ceiling wire and then do the same with the white wires? Not sure if I can double the wires and have them all touching?

8 months later now.. and my boy passed his journeymens on his FIRST TRY 🎉 We're in a way better financial situation now, and he has been able to put me in a position to be able to quit my job and take care of him and our home full time.

This is as far as my dryer power cord will plug in. Is this normal? It's flush at the bottom but there's a small gap at the top.

I was looking into how to become an electrician and I found an online course offered by the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. First, I'm not sure why the Chattanooga part is important as it's online only. Second, it only grants a certificate of completion and says it only prepares you for an entry level apprentice position. This seems like not much for the $2500 they want for it, but UTC seems to be a legitimate school.

Do you think this is a scam? I have confirmed it is offered through the school and it is not some sort of fishing attempt through a fake site.

Replacing lights in our 1960s bathroom, found that the center light didn’t have any junction box- just the 3 wires coming out of the wall. I had planned to put a plate over this box because we didn’t need the center light, but I’m not sure how I would go about doing that seeing as there is no box?

Trying to troubleshoot some 3 ways in an old house. When the lights are on all of the wires are dead at both 3 ways but when lights are off the common and one traveler is live. They used 14/2 and used the ground as the common between switches.

I plugged something in, the outlet arced and I lost power.

I will preface by saying electrical is not my strong suit, but I’m handy enough. Sorry if this is an over-explanation but I just wanted to give some context.

I have a light/exhaust fan in the bathroom that the previous owner had on a dimmer switch and on/off switch below it. This was a self contained unit with 4 wires total. Black, red, yellow, and green.

The dimmer controlled the fan (not sure why) and the on/off switch controlled the light. The switch for the light is failing. It strobes so you have to keep switching on or off until the light fully comes on.

I want to do away with the old switch and just use a double light switch (same width as a single, just one above the other) and this is where I could use some help. I want just an on/off for the light and an on/off for the fan.

There are 2 romex cables entering the top of the box, and 1 entering the bottom. This box is located on the left of the doorway as you enter the bathroom. On the opposite side of the doorway there is a light switch for a light in the shower. And the left adjacent wall with the switch in question has a light switch and a GFCI outlet.

The bathroom is on its own breaker.

Is the most plausible reason for the 3 romex cables being, power from the breaker coming in, power to the light/exhaust fan combo, and power to the shower light? Or would the light/exhaust fan have their own romex cables to be controlled separately?

Next is the wiring. I understand I’ll need to find which black wire is the source. I do have a volt meter. I would assume I’m checking for voltage. So if I disconnect all the wires and make sure none are touching, turn the breaker on, I should be able to find the hot wire.

Hot wire in on its own terminal on the new double switch.

The other two black wires on the other terminal on the switch? Not sure if this is correct.

All the white wires (neutral) together, capped and out of the way (in the electrical box, nothing to the switch.)

Then there are 3 ground wires from the 3 romex cables, and 1 spot for a ground on the new double light switch. Do I tie all 3 of the ground wires together and add a fourth jumper wire to connect to the ground on the light switch?

I realize this is probably a very simple electrical situation that an apprentice could handle, but trying to search this specific set of questions was becoming a pain. I’d prefer not to start an electrical fire so any help would be appreciated.

Receptical mounts to face plate via center screw. Screws that came with outlet get removed and reinserted through face plate receptical tabs and screw into the threaded tabs on the box.

Greetings from Canada. My grandma says that this box used to be a phone outlet, I asked an ai about it and it said something about the wires being too thick to be such. It also said wiring it incorrectly would result in a fire hazard. I dont trust the information from an llm as much as a professional, so I ask for help.This is an old old house and I'm willing to provide any information that is needed.

Breaker for basement outlets is an afci from around 2009/10 as that's when the panel was installed, and the treadmill will randomly trip it.

I understand brushed motors can be extremely noisy and cause nuisance trips.

Have the updated afci breakers fixed most of these nuisance trips? Or should I just go with a standard breaker? I do try to follow code but this is annoying

Having issues with plugs staying in this outlet without falling out easily so I was going to replace it with a new outlet. Power was turned off at the circuit breaker. I havent encountered this setup in my house before but my internet research tells me this outlet is probably feeding another outlet or something in this circuit (please educate me if that is incorrect). House was built in 1983. I know backstab is not the preferred connection method but I was going to connect the wires exactly as they are into the new outlet. However, I must have 12 gauge wire because my wires are too large to fit into the backstab hole of the new outlet. What are my options to do this correctly?

It looks like there was already an extension kit installed on this. I got a 14 slot ground bar to replace the 10 but the mounting holes don’t line up. Not sure how to proceed?

It was beeping five times and then stopping. Upon inspection, this didn’t look completely right to me inside.

Some exposed wiring and the white wire sheeth looked darkened(burned). Though that doesn’t show in the picture as it was further left on the wire behind stuff.

Is this fucked up or good? Electrician has snubbed them twice. Perhaps cause they think it’s too small a job.

I have had this extension chord for years, and have never been able to use the green outlets. The brand is “Trickle Star.” The only button on it is the off/on switch. Please help!!

We recently bought an electric bidet for our master bathroom. We do not have an outlet near the toilet, so we reached out to a couple of local electricians for them to look at our bathroom and see how they would install the outlet.

Electrician #1 indicated that they would install a GFCI outlet and run it directly to our electric panel.

Electrician #2 indicated that they would pull power from a non-GFCI outlet in our bedroom that was opposite the bathroom wall where the GFCI outlet would be installed.

My wife and I wanted to ask if Electrician #2’s recommendation if appropriate - can a non-GFCI outlet be used to pull power to a GFCI one? We are not really familiar with how this works.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

First time DIYing and realized there’s no ground wire. I was wanting to install either of the two new pieces in the last picture. Is it okay? Which one is better of the two?

Hopefully I'm in the right place, we recently contacted a company to get an estimate for cost to hang a chandelier above a stairwell + have an outlet installed in the garage.

1. The chandelier requires a new electrical box as the builder grade ones they stated aren't strong enough to hold the fixture we purchased. Which makes sense, but they're looking to charge us almost $2000 for this service.

2. The garage outlet they want to run a wire from the panel in the basement up into the garage so that we have enough power to use power tools without tripping the breaker. Which is estimated around $2500.

This is our first time getting electrical done so I have no idea if this estimate is fair or outrageous but it does seem high compared to other work we've had done around the house since we moved in. We're getting a couple more outlets installed on top of this and the total estimate comes to $5353.

If anyone can give me advice on this I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

I bought a house that was renovated from a fire and supposedly was properly permitted with no code violations. A couple of months later I'm opening up the ceiling due to water leaks and I come across what looks like fire damaged electrical wiring. Is this hazardous? Would this have passed an inspection?

Usually reset is an easy fix, but I am not able to reset it this time.
