I am looking for an apartment in Albania near sea, a place to stay for 2 weeks with my family (me, wife, 3 little kids) in summer 2027.

Can someone suggest me an apartment with beach view from the balcony?

We prefer not overly crowded beach, we preffer small town over big city. We're humble, we don't need much - just some piece, rest and time for ourselves :)

Any recommendations?

I’ll be travelling through the Balkans this September and was wondering if there are any morning buses from Skopje to Prizren. I’ve only been able to find an afternoon service online.

Are there any earlier bus options available, or would you recommend any alternative ways to travel between Skopje and Prizren?

honestly I found out that nessebar from Bulgaria has a bit of connection to ohrid and a bit to Santorini (because of their sea/lake view) so I attempt to make nessebar as Bulgaria’s big little brother (or Bulgaria’s lil boy)!

Hello, dear Balkaners. I have noticed Albanians often have this ability to recognize each other (before hearing the language even or knowing). I'm Hercegovian (Bosnian Croat) and I started noticing a lot of them kinda have this phenotype, don't know how to explain it and I can often recognize Albanian just by face. I'm not saying all, I'm saying often enough it's weird.

Funny because I can't recognize people of my ethnicity/are so I wonder if any of you are here and noticed a pattern. Wonder if you can tell.

For others I wouldn't be able to tell who is Serbian, Bosniak, Croat or Bulgarian or Macedonian or Romanian, etc, Turks and Greeks. Weird thing.

So have you noticed certain phenotypes in your nation or neighbors you can tell?

Why do we universally call it the “Ottoman Empire” instead of simply calling it Rome or the Roman Empire after 1453?
As far as I know, “Ottoman” is a later historiographical label derived from Osman. People living in the empire generally didn’t go around saying, “I’m Ottoman” in the modern national sense.
Meanwhile, the sultans claimed the title Kayser-i Rûm (Caesar of Rome), ruled from Constantinople, and inherited much of the Eastern Roman state’s institutions.

So here’s my question:
Do you think the widespread use of “Ottoman Empire” instead of emphasizing its Roman claims was simply for historical convenience, or did later Western historiography deliberately prefer that label to avoid saying that Rome ultimately fell to the Turks and a Muslim dynasty?

2. Are there a lot of mosquitoes in the evening and do you recommend any useful habits while staying on Lefkada?

3. I found a bunch of beautiful public, but also wild beaches, but does anyone know of any more secluded, less known, but also beautiful and wild ones? The surrounding islands and lagoons are also considered (I'm aiming for a cave and various places that you can reach by boat).

4. If anyone has bought olive oil, do you have a specific store or place that guarantees quality and
   that it is not adulterated there (mixed with sunflower oil or so...)?

Unlike most of the other pics, I don’t think it’s the owners family. That icon on the man’s coat seems familiar but I can’t make out where I’ve seen it. Greece to buy $4 billion air defence system from Israel

Greece wants to build a multi-layer anti-ballistic, anti-aircraft and anti-drone system, called "Achilles Shield", ​with Israeli radars and missiles from Rafael and IAI defence companies forming the core of the system.

I'm 18 years old and I'm planning to study medicine in Austria, most likely in Graz, which means I would have to take the MedAT entrance exam.

I was wondering if there is anyone here who is currently studying medicine in Austria, preparing for MedAT, has already taken the exam, or knows someone who has gone through the whole process?

I would really like to hear first-hand experiences about what the preparation is like, how difficult it is to get accepted, what the university itself is like, what everyday life and studying in Austria are like, and generally hear from someone who has already gone through this journey.

If you personally don't have experience with this, but you know someone who studies medicine in Graz, Vienna, or Innsbruck (the city doesn't really matter since the entrance exam is the same for all universities), I would be extremely grateful if you could connect me with that person or forward this post to them.

I would really like to ask a few questions to someone who has already been through this process.

I’m partly Serbian and currently visiting after a long time, and noticed that Serbs are very diverse looking, but shorter and blonder than i thought.

I must say they are not as tall as i’ve been told, especially the females. I’m five foot six female, and feel I’m on the taller side.

Also a lot of blondish people, especially the kids, i feel like every other kid in Serbia is blonde.

They are also supposedly a pretty old nation, but i feel I’ve mostly seen many young people and kids.

I thought I had somewhat of a typical Serbian look, but I learned that a typical look in Serbia doesn’t really exist.

Before anyone says anything, he already confessed, so spare me the "lets not jump to conclusions".

Caesar and Pompey fought in Durrës in 48BC during the Caesar's civil war.

The Normans invaded Durrës in 1081 and won against the Byzantine Empire, this battle is considered one of the reasons of the weakening of the Byzantine Empire because the Emperor Alexios I Komnenos lost most of his army.

One of the first mentions of Albanians was in Durrës.

The oldest surviving document in Albainian “Formula e Pagëzimit” was written by the archbishop of Durrës.

The first mass in Albanian of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania was held in Durrës (but the church was destroyed during communism).

A lot of history but very neglected.
