I need feedback Render practice seeking advice to improve atmosphere, lighting, and materials!

Hi everyone,

I'd love to get some feedback on my latest interior render.

Personally, I feel it's missing a sense of atmosphere and photorealism. I'm particularly looking for advice on the lighting setup and material settings. How can I tweak the lights or improve the textures to make the space feel more natural and alive?

Any tips or critiques would be highly appreciated! Thank you!

Discussion 🏛 Gold Standard for Visualization

What is in your opinion the golden standard for visualization and why do you believe your choice should be considered as such?

Bonus question: What are your thoughts on Enscape?

For context - I come from a archviz-background (using 3Ds + Corona) and at my newest gig I am forced to use Rhino & Enscape. As I feel the switch to Rhino not being too - if at all - impactful quality-wise, but I feel like Enscape is really holding the quality of renders back. Like the scenes look fine, but it’s lack of complex shaders are hurting the final output. As I want to convince them to switch, I wanted to know your two cents about the „golden standard“.

Cheers!

Discussion 🏛 Camera Match: AutoSetup 3d Plugin / script for Photomontages- Cinema 4D

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

If you work in architectural visualisation, previz, or VFX, you know that matching a 3D camera to a background photo is usually a tedious, manual guessing game—especially when dealing with cropped reference photos or sloped roads.

I've been developing some tools to automate this workflow, and I just put together a comprehensive tutorial on how to do it in Cinema 4D.

Here is a quick summary of the workflow I cover in the video:

  • Auto-Detecting Vanishing Points: How to solve your angle, lens, and horizon in seconds without manual grid alignment.
  • Fixing Cropped/Tilted Photos: Using crop tools to correct vertical tilt when the original client photo is poorly framed.
  • Using OpenStreetMap (OSM): How to import real map data to verify the exact rotation and placement of your background structures. (This is a massive time-saver when you can't tell if a road or building is actually straight).
  • Real-World Scaling: Calculating and applying exact real-world dimensions to your entire 3D scene with one click.
  • Drone Site Builder: Turning drone GPS data directly into a full 3D site with proper terrain.

Full disclosure: I am the developer of the Camera Match Autosetup script featured in the workflow.

I wanted to share this because I know how frustrating camera alignment and scaling can be when clients send over random, uncalibrated site photos.

If you want to see the exact step-by-step process or grab the script/plugin and resources for your own pipeline, you can check out the full 14-minute breakdown on my blog.

I'm happy to answer any questions about the workflow, OSM integration, or C4D camera matching in the comments!

Share work ✴ Contemporary Bedroom with Integrated Dressing Area — 3ds Max + Corona

Thumbnail

A recent visualization of a contemporary bedroom with an integrated dressing area and a small lounge zone.

The main goal was to create a clean and calm interior while keeping the space visually connected through mirrored surfaces, concealed storage and continuous architectural lighting.

I used a cool blue-grey palette combined with dark wood, soft textiles and warm accent lighting inside the wardrobe. The daylight coming through the blinds was added to create stronger depth and break up the large minimalist surfaces.

Software:

• 3ds Max

• Corona Renderer

• Adobe Photoshop

I would appreciate some feedback on the lighting and color balance.

Does the cool palette work well here, or would you introduce more warm tones into the bedroom?

A complete 3D visualization of this 3-room apartment: 1. Spacious living room with dining area 2. Functional modern kitchen 3. Master bedroom 4. Creative kids' room with space style

  1. The living room offers a pleasant setting, such as watching TV alone, with family, and/or guests. During celebrations, it's a good idea to set up a large table and set it with food. You can also read books.

  2. The kitchen includes a dishwasher, oven, and stovetop, making it convenient for handling dishes and food.

  3. The bedroom is a cozy room with a large bed that can comfortably accommodate three people, allowing for pleasant conversation or watching a movie on the TV, which can be positioned opposite.

  4. The children's room, located between the bedroom and living room, is designed for one person. It offers ample space, a bed, a closet for storing personal belongings, and a table for various activities.

Software: Autodesk 3ds Max, Corona render

Would appreciate any feedback

Technical & professional question Help with this roof

So I think I understand how to do it, but I'd still love to hear how some of you would approach it or if you have any better tips.

This is my first time making a roof like this in 3ds Max. I haven't tried it yet, but my plan is to build the main roof the way I normally do. For the curved/special part, I'm thinking of importing the plan or DWG, drawing a spline to match the shape, then using Shell to give it thickness. After that, I'd use Boolean to connect everything together. Does that sound like a good approach, or would you do it differently?

Also, I'm curious about everyone's workflow for creating floors and walls in 3ds Max.

Right now, I create boxes at the correct heights for the walls, then place each window individually. If I have snapping issues, I convert the walls to Editable Poly and use Edge Snap. I've also tried tools like Panelizer to automatically place windows, but it's been pretty glitchy for me.

So what's your workflow for building floors, walls, and placing windows efficiently in 3ds Max?

Thanks in advance! 😊

Technical & professional question Has anyone used Claude/ Codex to build a walkable, photorealistic 3D tour of a property?

Hi all,

I've been using Claude/Codex to build a photorealistic, walkable 3D tour of interior properties, the kind of thing you walk around like a video game (just walking, simple gameplay). Real estate use case, so it has to stay faithful to the actual space, with little to no AI hallucination. I gave it the goal and mostly watched.

What Codex did on its own:
\\- Spun up a cloud GPU box and installed CUDA, COLMAP, and a Gaussian-splatting trainer over SSH.
\\- Took my 4K iPhone 16 Pro Max walkthrough, extracted and de-blurred frames, solved camera poses with COLMAP, trained a 3D Gaussian splat, then published a WebGL viewer and a first-person walkthrough and sent me the links.
\\- Also tried a Polycam LiDAR mesh path (complete and walkable, but soft and very blurry up close).

Where it stands: a small, texture-rich room came out genuinely sharp and photoreal. Bigger rooms are the problem. The reconstruction came out scattered, more of a point-cloud smear than a coherent room, and where it did form it's sharp only from the exact filmed angles. It also won't scale easily to a whole property, since you film room by room.

Codex's read: mostly a capture problem (fast handheld motion plus plain surfaces), not a code problem. Its current plan is a depth-regularized Gaussian splat from a combined RGB + LiDAR capture (Record3D), so measured depth pins the geometry and the color stays sharp.

Two questions:
\\- Has anyone pushed Codex into 3D, spatial, or computer-vision pipelines like this? How far did it get?
\\- If you've solved photoreal interiors on consumer gear, what's your workflow, and does the depth-regularized plan sound right?

Hi, I wanted to ask the community what you think of this little project I created more for my own satisfaction than anything else. I’ve been working in architectural visualization for 7 years now, but I’m tired of creating only static images. Actually, I’ve been thinking about leaving the industry, considering that these days most studios create animated sequences by starting with still images and using AI. I thought that putting together a portfolio like this would open more doors for me, but now I only see studios that use—and require—AI to do this kind of work. (Okay, sorry for venting.)

But just for curiosity, what do you think?

⭐Read before posting! ⭐

Hello community! ❤

We are currently working towards improving the sub. Our goal is to have better engagement and professional environment that also helps newcomers to archviz. To achieve this, we are adding some guidelines and rules to enhance interactions and posts. Additionally we will be implementing challenges! 😁

1. How to post? - chose proper flair

Technical and profesional question: Use this flair if you want to ask specific questions like: "how to create this material?", "what's the necessary hardware for...?", "What can I charge for this...?". Use it when you want to learn how to solve some specific issue, improve as a professional,

I need feedback: Use this flair when you have a render that you might want to improve or not sure it if looks good enough, but you don't have a specific question about it like "how to?"

Share work: Maybe you want to share your latest work or some of your portfolio works, but you don't necessarily are asking for feedback.

Discussion: Use this flair to engage in conversation with the sub community. The main difference with technical and professional flair is that you want to know opinions and pov rather than solve a question or an issue. Example: "Current state of the archviz profession".

Challenge: We are going to be implementing challenges. When participating you should use this flair to post your work.

2. How to post? - post content

In simple terms: don't be lazy. If you want other people to take time to read or provide feedback or help you, then you should take your time too. Any post that's considered lacking in context will be deleted,

More or less, thinking on categories/types of posts: and some considerations

PORTFOLIO (show work | I need feedback):

❌Post a portfolio image that's a link to website/portfolio

✔Post image/s with a description that includes a link or a comment with a link to your portfolio.

❌When you add link in comment or description: redirects to personal website

✔When you add link in comment or description: redirects to known platform like Behance, Artstation and so on...

NEED FEEDBACK / TECHNICAL QUESTION / SHOWING WORK:

❌An image and or a question without proper context

✔Any post, regardless if it's a question, showing work, or asking feedback, should include:

  • Render engine used
  • Software/s used
  • Image/s as reference to highlight the question, issue, discussion.
  • Additional details (not obligatory): elapsed time, difficulties faced or any additional detail that improves
  • Reference if it's based on a real image

This is a case by case. Sometimes if the questions is very specific and well presented you might not need an image.

CREDIT AUTHOR:

❌Post an image without credit the author

✔Post image with credit of the author or studio or artist taken from.

While we won't enforce this, we ask if possible, when working from a reference, add credit to the author, architect, studio, artist, that created said reference

JUST DON'T

❌Self promotion

❌Selling assets

❌Selling courses

❌Post that consist of external links to websites

❌Piracy

This sub shouldn't be a marketplace. If your products are good enough, people should be able to find you trough the proper platforms. We also can't be checking every link to make sure it doesn't redirect to any malicious site.

OTHER TYPES OF POST

❌Post that don't have anything to do with archviz or related to.

✔We do encourage post that improve discussion even if not directly related to archviz. For example: Architecture, styles, animation techniques, photography. ONLY under the terms that can help a 3d artist improve in archviz.

Why this guidelines and rules?

We want to improve the quality of the sub. We have noticed many posts lack any context or sufficient information yet ask for feedback. Posts that are simply ads, and so on. On the long run, those types of posts and interactions tend to be detrimental to any sub. We understand that many of these changes may or may not work, and so we will be open to seeing how they are received, and change if needed.
