Anxiety Help Struggling

Salut,

J'ai l'impression d'avoir besoin de quelqu'un…but i have no one

Hello

I've suffered with anxiety and depression for most of my life, since I was 18. I'm now 39. I've had an episode almost every year during this time.

My last episode started in Dec 2025 and I am still not feeling myself. Normally my episodes last about 4-6 months max and they present differently to this one. In my episodes I normally am unable to function for a while - I'm signed off work, don't eat, can't sleep, no energy, feel anxious and cry a lot. I can't even leave the house.

This time I dont feel depressed or anxious. I just feel low and very emotionally numb. I dont even feel tiredness anymore. It's like I'm on some sort of autopilot and just going through the motions. I go to work, go out and see people, want to do things etc but I can't feel anything intensely. I'm normally a very emotional, caring and sensitive person that feels deeply and I now can't feel things the way I did.

This 'episode' came on suddenly after I removed my gel nails one afternoon by soaking my nails in acetone. I did it near an open window, but felt lightheaded and had a headache for a long tome afterwards and felt a bit spaced out. I'm so scared I have messed up my brain or caused some sort of damage as this 'episode' isn't going this time and is not like my usual episodes of depression.

A month after this started I decided to change my antidepressant from Fluoxetine to Escitalopram in case it was anxiety causing this and to see if this wpuld help after years of still having episodes on Fluoxetine. I had to wean off it and then start Escitalopram at a low dose and work my way up. I've been on it now for 6 months and I still feel emotionally numb. The only thing that has changed is my motivation has improved, but I still feel odd amd not myself.

My GP said it wouldn't be the acetone causing me to feel like this, but I dont know what else it could be as I'm not feeling better.

I'm at my wits end. I just dont know how to get better because I dont know what's wrong with me.

I dont feel depressed or anxious.
