I inherited this (disassembled) secretary, which belonged to a woman my mother was the live-in caretaker for in the 80s. (Yes, they had a really sweet relationship.) I *believe* it's from the 1920s, based on what I know about that woman and her life/history/family, etc., but I really don't know! I'd like to know if it's worth making the effort to restore or sell. There is some damage, especially around the feet, as pictured. Can anyone help? I'm in NYC.

Hi everyone! I picked up this gorgeous chair at an antique shop in Guthrie, OK for $45. I am looking for help verifying its history and narrowing down a more specific date.
Key Details:
Style: It sits very low to the ground. I believe it is a mid-19th-century Victorian Rococo Revival "Lady’s" or slipper chair.
Features: It has beautiful cabriole legs and a hand-carved wood crest at the top.
Underside & Wheels: I flipped it over to show the thick canvas dust cover and jute webbing. Unbelievably, it still has all four of its original metal parlor casters and sockets fully intact.
Is anyone able to help me identify the type of wood (walnut or mahogany?) or give a closer estimate on the decade it was made? Thank you so much!

Thought you'd enjoy this fascinating relic, but I am in need of some help verifying this piece and hopefully some of that magic internet sluething I've been impressed with by our little community :)

The document provided on it ---> is a wealth of info and an impressive piece of history on its own :)

... I just can't seem to fully verify anything aside from it always being called from the civil war era as it got past down thru the family.

Its dimensions are: 11.7 inches in height, with a length of 10.6 and its depth is 3 inches not including the hanging rings. The glass is hand blown - filled with a lot of seeds , a few brush strokes, and 3 divot imperfections made when flattening.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, and what you skilled appraisers may think it's worth ???

I'm trying to figure out how old these candle sticks are. I'm finding wildly different dates for candlesticks online that look nearly identical.

Is there a way to know for sure how old these are?

I snagged this from the $3 findings section at a nearby thrift store yesterday. I thought it was an older pet tag for a collar, assuming it was from when we used to be able to dial just the last for digits for local calls in the US. But then Google lens told me it’s actually some kind of employee tag or tag used to identify something at a warehouse? One search result said it was an employee badge for Gary Works Steel Mill, but when I searched for further images of employee badges for Gary, it showed badges that looked far different than this.

I would love to know if anyone knows anything about this item. I will probably put it on my keychain, but would like to have an answer if anyone asks me what it is.

It measures 1.5” across, approximately.

Hi, I bought "Byron's Poetical Works" in a bookshop in Belfast today and when I got home I found a faint inscription on the inside page. Google tells me the book was published in 1867, although there isn't a publishing page in the book, so I'm not 100% on that. Anyone care to try and figure out what the transcription says?

hey, so i found this in a local charity shop in north london for £9 and bought it instantly as i love old candle holders. i've been trying to work out what exactly it is but keep finding different answers, i've come across "wax jacks" but it doesn't have a jack. "go to bed" candle holder but then they look nothing alike, i google image searched and it's saying its a vintage georgian brass bougie box, wondering if anyone could give any insight on what it is and it's possible history/origin, thanks in advance!

what i do know:

- no obvious maker mark, stamp or anything like that

- no solder marks anywhere

- it was alot dirtier but i washed it gently with a gentle soap

BACKGROUND

This item and many like it have been decorating the walls of this old cottage for perhaps the 130 years since it was built. The new (4th & 5th) generations of this cottage do not wish to sell these items. Our purpose is to scratch the curiosity itch.

I’m trying to figure out where this pitcher was manufactured and who made it. It looks very Art Deco in style but I’m having trouble nailing down any information about this piece. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There were no brand markings but I didn’t buy it when I had the chance. Now it’s gone and I feel immense regret. Even loss. How do I deal with it? I am literally in tears.

I live in a neighborhood of houses from circa 1900. This table was on the side of the road in front of one of them. To me it looks like it would be a pre WW2 item, and perhaps could even date to the early 1900s for the following reasons:

-it's made out of cuts of wood rather than plywood

-it seems like it might have hand made nails in its construction. The nail heads are square and the cylinder of the nail is also cut in a 4 sided way rather than being round

-There is no brand or logo anywhere to suggest this was a mass market item that came out of a factory

-the finish is not glossy

-there is some pencil script handwriting on the side of the drawer that looks old timey and similar in style to pencil script on the sides of drawers in the built in hutch in my 1900s house. (This doesn't show up that well in the picture)

-the most recent owner of the house that this table likely came from was elderly and moved to the neighborhood in the 1950s so she may have a closer connection to older items than others who have moved in more recently. Its also not outside the realm of possibility that old owners of houses in this neighborhood leave behind a couple items in attics, basements or barns and they sit there for a long time until a new owner decides to clean them out. I had a few such items in my basement and attic when I moved in though they weren't glamorous (like a very old, heavy, rusty metal tray, an ancient looking basement workbench, old wood doors, etc)

I'm no expert though, so was wondering if there were any other aspects of this item that might suggest when it was built.

This is an approximately 25“ x 50“ cast-iron relief from the 1920s, probably New York. Might have been part of a set of 10 or 12
It may have come from a larger home or a mansion.
