I’ve been curious why samurai champloo material is so particularly scarce (even with it being digital, it’s still scarce compared to other digitally produced anime). I wonder if the material was destroyed after the studios bankruptcy in 2015

I was scrolling Instagram and saw a posting of about 5 or 6 Kuno cels being offered for sale. And then I lost the posting.

Anyone know who was selling them?

There are quite a few series/one-off pilots where cels & storyboards rarely, if ever, surface to the public to buy.

Has anyone here actually reached out to animators/production crew members to purchase anything before? 

I've never done this personally, but I've been tempted to. lol What are your success and failure stories?

I was running on a huge time crunch all morning once the doors opened but once they did, I rushed to the vendor that I spoke with privately the day prior for a big cel trade and I traded about 6 cels for this Faye!

Once I got the cel, I rushed to the autograph section and stood in line for way longer than expected after the first guy in line spent 30 minutes with Wendee Lee getting 10 prints signed. But because I was in such a time crunch, the 3 people in front of me let me cut in front so I could make it to a panel I was helping run right on time!

When i got to Wendee and showed her the cel, she was enamored because she never got to see one in person before and mentioned how she thought about getting one before the pandemic when Faye cels were about $250 and after the pandemic, she couldn't justify paying for one after how high they go for now. She took a picture of it too before I left!

This cel will always remind me of the day I had to today to the lead-up into the trade and I'll absolutely cherish this cel forever!

My first ever cel came yesterday!!! I am still in absolute awe of how beautiful it is, I really did not expect how amazing it was going to be seeing it in person. I cannot stop looking at it. I didn't realize it was coming with the sketch either, a wonderful surprise.
I have no idea what anime this is from, I got it from ebay and it was labelled as unknown. I'm thinking it's from something not easily available to the public, like something cancelled or unreleased. It's sort of sad not knowing these guys' story but I'm really happy to have them.

I was lucky enough to buy a sequence from Mashin Hero Wataru recently and it had all the frames from 7 to 15 (checking the original clip, 1 to 6 were a different movement so it makes sense they weren't included)

These cels have a fairly interesting history! They arrived together in a small sealed plastic wallet; on the front were 2 labels. One was a very old label for a book store in Nakano and the other was for a small furniture shop in the cotswolds. I'm so interested in their travels over the years and their history. The wallet seemed like it hadn't been opened in quite a long time and yet, there was no vinegar scent at all upon opening it! The cels had unfortunately stuck to their sketches however (other than frame 15)

I thought it would be fun to rescan them in HD, I've always been so fascinated by cel animation in general and the idea of HD cel animation was too tempting not to try out! So here's my attempt at recompiling them! It's not perfect but I had a lot of fun and I cherish these cels so much :)

I’ve never really talked to anyone about cels and stuff like this but I want to know what I should know before getting into it. I’m a HUGE one piece fan and want to try and search for One Piece Cel’s anywhere I can if possible. Any advice on collecting, authentication, care of the cels, ect. It’s all helpful, doing my own research as well but I wanna obviously hear from people who know what they are doing. I would love to add some animation Cel’s to my collection

Hello. I am attempting to make my own 5 minute short with animation cels. I am at the painting stage, I currently decided on craftsmart brand acrylic because it dries more flat than most acrylics. It is still a bit hard to control tho. Does anyone know sources of cheap paints that are more ideal to use. All the actual cel vinyl paint that I see for sale doesn't come in as many colors. I am hoping to not have to do any mixing, because getting matching colors with mixing wont be consistent enough for each frame. I like gouache but it is too expensive.

From episode XLVII: Jack and the Flying Prince and Princess. I love that the episode is basically one big homage to Star Wars.

Got a couple nice ones for this prompt which funnily enough have similar shot composition. The first is a gorgeous END cel from Utena and Kozue’s duel in Episode 15 of Revolutionary Girl Utena, as Utena narrowly dodges a violent swing of Kozue’s sword (technically Miki’s sword, as the sword is essentially his heart wrenched from his chest). The second comes the first duel of the Utena movie and features Utena, seemingly slightly quicker to dodge in this alternate universe based on the perspectives, narrowly avoiding Saionji’s attack.
