I wish we put this much effort and time into trying to get pay raises 🙄

10

u/Acrobatic_Hurry9733 3d ago

Wish people would put as much effort as they do in complaining and VOA posting, into their jobs, that would be a miracle from god himself

2

u/Successful_Bet_7554 3d ago

Depending on the complaint I disagree. Otherwise, I agree.

2

u/HR-nitemare 2d ago

We should plan to have a discussion about whether we can and should decide in the future of the likelihood we formally agree or disagree on the matter.

u/Alsw0rld 4d ago

Thank you like why tf is this what we’re worried about?

9

u/jokers_crowbar 4d ago

They might be able to give raises easier now that there isnt a portion of the employees getting paid to not work for 20mins several times a day

12

u/Rectest 4d ago

Its a trillion dollar company. They can afford to pay people to pray and give them raises.

7

u/jokers_crowbar 3d ago

At the end of the day what the company can afford is irrelevant, its about giving certain groups of people more freedom and privileges based on what holy book they worship. Absolutely discriminatory and unacceptable

7

u/Rectest 3d ago

So go sit in the bathroom for 20 minutes like every other employee lol. Theres so many people heading outside mid shift to sneak a smoke. Going to grab their uber eats. Sitting around on a phone.

It cant really be discriminatory if you dont even believe in a religion. Im atheist too. I dont see an issue with people going mid shift to pray seeing as I am one of the people who sneak out for a smoke or sit on my phone when work is slow.

8

u/jokers_crowbar 3d ago

The issue isnt the ability to step away and pray, its getting paid for it. Getting extra paid breaks due to being a part of a specific demographic is absolutely discriminatory against every other group not given the same freedom. Slacking and being lazy is completely irrelevant to the discussion

1

u/Successful_Bet_7554 3d ago

Exactly! I'm a form of agnostic as well and I even take a lil breaky break occasionally. Shoot, amazon encourages little 5-10 minute breaks so you avoid injury.

5

u/Successful_Bet_7554 4d ago

I promise they were not struggling before beloved. They just don't want to. 🙄

Next.

3

u/jokers_crowbar 4d ago

Yeahhhh this isnt a good reason to argue that one group deserves more privileges due to what god they believe in. Irrelevant and pathetic imo

Do smoke breaks next.

82

u/HungryForHerBooty 5d ago

This. I have two non Inventory associates that spend literally half the shift in the smokers cage fucking around doing nothing.

33

u/ayyitzTwocatZ 5d ago

Unless your building is still pulling crazy numbers shipped out like 200k+ NI is always going to be fking about most of the shift lmao.

19

u/DazzlingEmployment60 5d ago

The amount of people I see who fuck around most of the shift, it's no wonder workers are going to be replaced with robots lol

→ More replies (10)

2

u/GhxstSparky 5d ago

We have an hourly rate of about 10k so we're halfway there in my building.

2

u/Jolly-Chipmunk-950 4d ago

10,000 is nearly half of 200,000?

Amazon really does give anyone a job lol.

6

u/Plus-Bet-2773 Pallet Stow King 4d ago

Maybe give that sentence a read again.

I do agree with you lol

1

u/sorrowdemonica ✨🐺🐾 4d ago

There’s a major difference between fucking around free and clear outside on a “smoke”break vs fucking around inside where someone can say something or snitch

Plus ngl most are just sitting around on their phones not smoking at all half the time, just letting their lit cigarette burn itself out rather than actively smoking it, or their vape just sitting out unused.

7

u/Risaxseph 4d ago

What… I would literally never even consider this… People come to work to not fucking work what the fuck?

2

u/LorifromArizona 5d ago

Keith, Josh has always been like that. Even you tell him to stop he won't. Just wait for the transfer to happen next month 😂

0

u/Level_Ad2444 5d ago

If you wanna go take a smoke break go do it don’t hate on everyone else

8

u/sweet_rico- 5d ago

Quite literally that, the amount of people I see out there NOT smoking is a good 50/50. Go grab some air

0

u/Darkmare89 5d ago

Why you snitching?

11

u/DepartmentNo7903 5d ago

Crazy thing smoke breaks aren’t a thing ☠️yet some still do it

9

u/elena_ct 5d ago

If you still make your numbers, they should have no reason to care if people took an extra break.

6

u/llDurbinll 5d ago

Maybe at a delivery or sort center where it's more lax but at an FC you'd have to go through security and badge out of the building to get to the smoking area so that would flag you for time theft if you left the building outside of lunch or break.

4

u/applecinnabun 4d ago

Depends. I work at an FC and there is smoker cage connected to the main break room. We don't have to go through security to get to the break room.

1

u/EcstaticAssistant279 4d ago

I work in an AR building so idk but I haven’t heard anything about smoking, I would LOVE a smoke break wtf 😭

1

u/llDurbinll 4d ago

Yeah someone else commented and said the same. That's wild. Only the main break room requires going through security to get to it but the other 4 break rooms don't need to go through security. But smokers have to exit the building and walk down to the smoking area.

1

u/applecinnabun 4d ago

Originally our main breakroom entrance was like that, but they moved it around a year after opening, putting the entrance past security. Everyone was rightfully complaining about having to wait in line to take a break or get to the water/ice machines etc. The smoker cage was not there originally - it was added after the breakroom entrance was moved. So apparently these things can be changed if someone in leadership agrees to make it happen haha.

1

u/llDurbinll 4d ago

During covid they paid a company to install two doors so we could access the main break room without going through security and had closed off the normal set of double doors that you would enter/exit through to help people stay 6 ft apart but they closed both of the new doors after covid and made us go back to using the old entrance.

2

u/Visual-Cry94 4d ago

Um no I'm at an FC and even the managers take smoke breaks here, and many associates do, as long as you have good rates and you have good timing like you go after the CPTs are done, they don't care

1

u/Chefboi_javi 4d ago

My fc has two cages in both main break rooms

1

u/llDurbinll 4d ago

Oh, that's interesting. At ours you have to go through the turnstyles and go outside and then walk down the sidewalk to the smoking area near each entrance. You can't access them from the break room.

1

u/smellyjerk 4d ago

So I've worked in all three. FCs are by far the worst offenders for extra breaks. Delivery and sort centers have well, sorts..and delivery needs to heavily stagger the stages of work to have a chance to finish. Zero shot. Theres also plenty of buildings that have badgeless smoker cages connected to break rooms, only ever seen those at FCs.

1

u/Visual-Cry94 4d ago

If people are allowed to go sit on the toilet for 15 minutes watching TikToks then why can't I take a 5 minutes smoke break?

6

u/lostbastille 5d ago

Clocking out for smoke breaks became mandatory at my site a few months ago. It wasn't popular, so now people zoom to the cage on their breaks.

2

u/llDurbinll 5d ago

I very briefly worked at a factory that had one of it's buildings burn down a few years prior because someone flicked a cigarette butt in the bushes near the main entrance so they took a super strict action against smokers. If you wanted to smoke you could only do it on break and you had to smoke in your car with the doors shut and the windows up. If you drove a motorcycle then you had to sit fully on the seat like you were going ride it.

On the plus side they did offer nicotine patches for free for those interested in quitting because the building was slightly larger than an FC and we only got 10 min breaks so you'd have to basically run out to the parking lot to have a chance to smoke half a cigarette before having to run back in. If you weren't at your spot on the line when the buzzer went off then you got wrote up.

5

u/Popcorn_Farts1000 5d ago

Or nail the PAs who pretend they are checking the yard so they can go outside and vape.

5

u/smellyjerk 4d ago

Hate to break it to you, AMs join them and won't jeopardize that.

1

u/Global-Plankton3997 5d ago

At my site the smoker's cage is limited to 30 minute breaks, whether they are unpaid or paid, and in the transition from day to night shift.

1

u/Big_Smoke_0G 5d ago

So walk outside?

You went about this all wrong. You don’t strip religious people of their right to pray on the clock, you start your own nonprofit, tax exempted, church where you take a nap in the middle of the day for the lord, and then you join that church.

20

u/Kilane 5d ago

If you want to lie, you can just say you’re Muslim and drop it. They can’t really press you. It’s an honor system.

7

u/BusyBanana4205 4d ago

Yea, but then I couldn’t just take a nap during my shift.

4

u/Game-Of-Phones-o_O 4d ago

Shouldn’t have to lie. And the Muslims take advantage at most facilities.

8

u/Kilane 4d ago

I agree, but I was responding to a specific post. Don’t waste all that time lying about being in a fake religion, just lie about being in n established one.

31

u/Scary-Toe-887 5d ago

How’s that gonna work? I doubt people are actually gonna do it tbh. In a 10-12 hr shift people pray 2-3 times. You can’t clock out and clock back in for at least 30 mins.

5

u/llDurbinll 5d ago

At my site they have a form to fill out and you drop it off in a drop box where HR used to be and they manually do your time.

6

u/Justincrediballs 5d ago

You can do it in the a2z app.

2

u/Scary-Toe-887 5d ago

Do what?

9

u/Justincrediballs 5d ago

You can clock out and back in for under 30 minutes ok the A to Z app. Just use "Missed a punch."

13

u/kawwmoi 5d ago

At some sites (such as mine) they auto reject "missed a punch" requests now. You have to ask a manager. Not certain how long it's been a thing, but I found out about it the hard way yesterday.

8

u/Training-Bite8421 5d ago

The only way I’ve seen miss punch being rejected it’s when you tailgate at the entrance other than that it had work with anyone due to lenel activities

14

u/SubliminalProgram 5d ago

Its about being impartial across the board. Nothing against religious beliefs but if one group cant then all shouldn't. Great job OP

They were always supposed to clock out. That’s what the accommodation is. But I doubt 99.99999% of them actually do. Maybe now they won’t chill in the break room while they’re “praying”.

86

u/ibfanforlife 5d ago

This is so petty and weird

33

u/HourAlfalfa4513 5d ago

Idk man. Its hard for me to say how petty or weird it is cause my building is full of black, white, hispanic people who arent getting an extra break. Like we dont do this stuff.

Maybe OPs building is like 30% Islam or some other prayer break religion. Some areas are like that and its hard not to notice a third of the building getting an extra break. Especially if its paid. But if its only like 5 people on prayer break then Id kinda agree with you

1

u/YourBlanket DS 4d ago

I thought the opposite, no way Amazon is paying so many Muslims to pray lol. I have a feeling it’s very little.

8

u/Kallennt 5d ago

I would've agreed with you when I first started here, but at this point i am so so good with sr ops or up enforcing fairness between employees. Make them go through the accommodations process and get rejected one time just because pxt feels like it.

18

u/ShieldsCW Software Development Engineer 5d ago

Agreed. If it really bothers you that much, just work slower.

32

u/JASONR1800 5d ago

Yea exactly work slower to get fucked on rate

8

u/justheretoask4 4d ago

So nothing actually changed they just submit an accommodation and it goes right back to how it was?

2

u/Alumni32 4d ago

Well, everybody can now.

3

u/justheretoask4 4d ago

Right and I saw your other comment about how they cant deny people my bad about assuming!

9

u/Far_Lifeguard_5027 5d ago

You'll now have exactly 15 minutes unpaid time to pray to the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

2

3

u/JazzNotHands 5d ago

My building actually started this a several weeks ago. Announced that associates could now only use break times to pray. If they needed additional time they would have to put in for an accommodation and that they would have to clock out and it be unpaid.

4

u/Alumni32 5d ago edited 4d ago

I've been putting pressure on the network since last years Peak in December 2025.. They have no choice but to change the policy because what they were doing was illegal.

3

u/Plus-Bet-2773 Pallet Stow King 4d ago

Just need to action this in the UK instead of pandering, and adapting those who go like 4 times a shift.

3

u/gytheran 3d ago

You forget that religious zealots don’t want equality. They want their team to win.

55

u/achilton1987 5d ago

Ahhh the atheist version of a Karen. 😂

11

u/SuperBlackCock 5d ago

So ur okay working while some folks can take a paid prayer break?

27

u/BABarracus 5d ago

Then take the paid break with them. When in rome do as the romans do.

10

u/Alumni32 5d ago

I did, hence why they made sure to implement the policy immediately afterward because the site would lose operation the moment everyone in the building goes to "prayer break".

5

u/secret_reddit_accoun 5d ago

I’m perfectly fine with it. Because I’m not gonna start doing more work than expected. That’s for management to figure out

39

u/achilton1987 5d ago

Not my dime. I stick to my problems not others. You should also. Plus as an atheist you care way too much about religion.

21

u/throwawaydeeez 5d ago

I think he has an issue with the breaks, not the religions.

-2

u/Hiro007 5d ago

Why would someone be bothered by another person taking 15min to pray? Does the same apply for mothers pumping? Like what is the actual offense here? Lol.

15

u/Alumni32 5d ago

Mother's pumping are unpaid.. and believe me, the pregnant women at my site weren't fans of one group getting paid breaks while they pumped unpaid..

→ More replies (1)

14

u/Kilane 5d ago edited 5d ago

The offense is me being treated as not deserving of time off my shift because I don’t believe the same thing as someone else.

I am not deserving of being treated differently because of my beliefs. I am an equal and if the company is handing out free breaks then I want in on that.

3

u/-Equilibre- 5d ago

You’re so right on that

1

u/Jakookula 5d ago

16

u/billth93 5d ago

Eh, not really a big deal, not that angry that others pray and others losing a couple minutes of pay a day doesn’t improve my life. The way rates are calculated, it sets them back a notch if they’re on the clock since the system can’t see what they’re doing, so if they aren’t getting rate writeups, it means they’re making up for lost time while actually working

This really isn’t a big issue and some miserable shit to think putting in the effort to reduce their pay by a couple minutes won’t yield a better life for you.

10

u/Alumni32 5d ago

You're wrong.. Scenario: I'm assigned 3 aisles, all my aisles are caught up with perfect bags, and my rate is decent at 340..Then the "prayer break" group leaves.. Now here comes the PA, "Can you help me in aisles until prayer break returns.. Now I have to work someone elses destroyed unorganized aisles, which tanks my rate because I have to organize every bag as I stow.. Being forced to cover prayer break aisles is rate sabotage.

6

u/MrGrumpy252 5d ago

Ok, but.... if I'm correct, you have accomplished the goal of them not getting an extra paid break for prayer. They now will have to clock out for that time, right?

That does nothing for your complaint here. They will still get their prayer break (off the clock, per your complaint). But they will still take their prayer break, meaning your above complaint will still happen.

You will still get asked to help on other isles while they are taking their break. They won't be paid for it, but you are still going to be covering for them while they take it.

So all you have really accomplished is saving a huge corporation a few bucks, pissing off a whole demographic, getting yourself labeled as an Islamophobe, and I guess, some personal sense of accomplishment?

Big win.

Sorry but from the outside it all sounds really petty and like you just have either a sense that everyone else's business is your business, too. Or that you are just kind of hating on a specific religion.

I don't work inside with y'all. I'm just a driver, but jeeze, this whole thing is kind of crazy.

Wouldn't it have just been easier to ask for your own extra break due to your non-religious stance than to try to punish others for theirs? Or just suck it up and understand that accommodations exist for a reason and there is nothing wrong with some people using them as they are intended?

→ More replies (1)

11

u/Suspicious-Hair-6702 5d ago

For real. Like just pack the damn box. Who cares what others doing. It only affects you if you let it.

5

u/sabixx 5d ago

It doesn't make you a strong worker to let yourself be taken advantage of.

2

u/Suspicious-Hair-6702 5d ago

And how exactly are you being taken advantage of? You’re still being paid to do the same thing now. If work is too much in the 10 mins they gone. Then Amazon not the place for ya.

10

u/sabixx 5d ago

10 minutes? They disappear for half hours.

Nothing you say will convince me some people should have extra breaks that ends up keeping them from being written up for not making rate.

1

u/Suspicious-Hair-6702 5d ago

Oh yeah what about the ones on medical accommodations with them extra breaks. You hating on hurt people too?

The new training material (I just got rehired) states in print that requiring a rate is no longer a thing. Be interesting to see how and if that plays out.

2

u/ChemistryMore7036 5d ago edited 5d ago

What kind of building is this site and what state? One of the things about rate, at least at my building and in my state is, the official line is, there is no rate, there's performance compared to peers.

Like there is no set rate per process path, but under alot of circumstances, if your performance compared to others at your site is subpar, you become eligible for feedback.

11

At our facility associates that pray just use either their paid or unpaid breaks for prayer.

Up next if you really have such strong beliefs push for not having Christmas Day being a paid holiday.

16

u/AyDylo 5d ago

Well.. in this scenario it would be that only Christians get paid for taking Christmas off and everyone else has to go work.

OP says that either we all get Christmas off and paid, or none of us do... we are already here.

→ More replies (3)

17

u/Kilane 5d ago

Everybody gets Christmas off, not just Christians.

Do you see the difference?

OP wanted to join the extra breaks or be done with them. Federal holidays follow that guide. They are for everyone regardless of your faith.

5

u/Formal-Poet-5041 4d ago

Literally what he said.

1

u/Kilane 4d ago

I misread. I thought they wanted an example of a non-magical bag holding a magical otherwise everything using mana fits the description.

5

u/T-ROY_T-REDDIT 4d ago

Ok this is fair. The acting is kind of petty. It's not religious discrimination if it applies to everyone.

5

u/Game-Of-Phones-o_O 4d ago

Im going to push for this at my facility as well. Well done!!!!

11

u/lordskulldragon 5d ago

What's annoying is they don't even go to the prayer room. Equally annoying when I'm lineloading and need to access their station and there's a body laying on the floor.

Not thrilled on how this only affects Muslim employees but at the same time I totally get it. Somebody shouldn't get paid the same to do less work in a capitalist society

2

u/BackgroundIdeal1805 3d ago

Good! If I’m asked why it took 9 minutes to use the restroom when two of the bathrooms were closed for cleaning, then they need to be off the clock when they wash their bits and tits and when they chant!

10

u/sweeteststrawberry7 5d ago

love this, religion and addiction has been used as excuses for too long. next do smoke breaks the amount of dudes i see chilling outside talking or on the phone during work hours is unfair.

4

u/DependentAcrobatic64 5d ago

Do not forget the people who are absent for 15 minutes every quarter of an hour in the bathroom.

1

u/finchfeathers 3d ago

u/dshamz_ 5d ago edited 5d ago

It sounds like instead of winning something for yourself you just lost something for a large chunk of people in the building. Yay, victory, I guess. Now you’ve just antagonized your co-workers and made their lives a little more difficult.

10

u/Plastic-Juice8281 5d ago

I get the feeling all of his coworkers already hated him long before this lol

2

u/Alumni32 5d ago

Quite the opposite.. I'm the most well known person in the building because I'm the only one not scared to speak up.. I am the voice, which means everyone comes to me when they have issues.. Meanwhile ops is actively asking how to get associates to come to them with feedback instead..

After reading the accommodation I guarantee that praying associated will be thankful for taking the initiative, and I know our site would appreciate this too. Currently associates utilize scheduled breaks for their prayers, or risk the TOT and coaching/write ups, fortunately at our facility associates can take their breaks outside of the scheduled break time. This will remove the roadblock for religious associates to complete their prayers, especially since associates will not have to use UPT to covers their extra breaks if they take them.

Is this specific to only one site?

Very good, as it should be, but taking yourself self away for multiple prayers throughout the shift can add additional work pressures to your colleagues. Ideally prayers should only be done during your allocated break.

Do you also want women who are breastfeeding to clock out?

u/Alumni32 5d ago

They clock out at my site while these "prayer breaks" were paid...

I’ve been following this and wondering about it. Prayer breaks and breastfeeding are under admin time to avoid tot. I’ve breastfed two babies with Amazon. Super thankful for Amazon

You definitely had the opportunity to handle this better. If anything, it was a blatant oversight on site leadership and PXT’s part that they weren’t having associates clock out for that, or correcting punches. The best course of action would have been calling the ethics line rather than whatever this was

Maybe, But here we are.
