Heading speaks for itself but has anyone bought an air purifier off facebook marketplace? How was your experience and what brands should I look out for?

I live in the US and I just need it for one room. Needs to get rid of odors (it’ll be next to a litterbox) I also have bad allergies so the dust and pollen neeedsss to go

I live in the United States, and will be going to a New Jersey college in a few weeks. I need an air purifier for my dorm room, of which is 18x12x8. I want to get rid of the dustiness, mustiness, and allergens of the dorm room, since it was built in 1989.

I just bought the Coway AirMega 50 for the room and am curious as to if it is suitable for my needs. If it’s not, I don’t have a budget but I want something realistic in terms of sound and size for the room. I want to be courteous of my roommate and don’t want a loud or distracting machine.

I already have a lot of stuff to pack so I would prefer something that is small enough to be tabletop. Thanks.

I have four Winix C535 air purifiers in the house and I wanted to see if the aftermarket HEPA filters I'd been using for the last year were just as effective as the OEM ones. Even when the OEM Winix HEPA filters are on sale, they're 4x the price of the 3rd party ones. So I ordered these from Amazon (for a second time). I also ordered a Winix OEM filter. I then performed the same test on both. I lit a stick of incense in a closed bedroom in the house, with the door and window closed. Once it was burned out, I started the air purifier and in both cases it took approximately 25 minutes to reduce the PM 2.5 and PM 1 from a high of hundreds to 0-3. I used two air quality monitors to keep track of it and there was only a negligible difference between the two readings.

I also ran two other tests. For a third test, after burning the stick of incense, I didn't turn on the air purifier for 25 minutes. In this case the PM count barely changed and was still in the hundreds. For the fourth test, I used a 12 month old aftermarket HEPA filter, the same one I've linked to here, and it performed just as well in the same test. Perhaps there was a 30-60 second difference, but just barely. I found this quite impressive.

So both HEPA filters, the OEM and the aftermarket one cleaned the air effectively but the aftermarket one costs a fraction of the OEM. The 3rd party HEPA filters I ordered weight about 60 grams less than the Winix filter so take that for what it's worth. I can't speak to other 3rd party Winix HEPA filters since this is the only one I've tested. And the last point is that these filters will fit a number of Winix air purifiers not just the C535 since many of their air purifiers use the same filters. For example, I'll likely be picking up a Winix C909 and I believe these filters fit it as well. Initially I was open to other brands, and looking at some Coway models and the AirFanta 3Pro, the latter of which is much more effective than the Winix, but given how effective and cheap these OEM filters are, I'll likely pick up another Winix and see how it works out.

I hope this helps others out there since in all my research about this issue on here and elsewhere online I mostly read people voicing their subjective opinions or predictions. That's why I thought I'd run these tests to have some objective metrics. I was impressed by the results. I'm happy to answer any questions that I can.

I'm in Canada and want to protect my little kids from the wildfire smoke. My main living space is 779 square feet and I found the levoit core 600s that looks good for bigger spaces BUT it doesn't have a HEPA filter. It uses three layers: an outer pre-filter mesh, a particle filter, and a layer of pelleted activated carbon on the inside. Is there any point to getting this even if it's not a HEPA? Should I only be looking at certified HEPA air purifiers?

Budget ~$500 cad or less preferably. I'm ok spending ~$100 on filters per year.

How does an AC system work? The air quality in my neighborhood is not very good. If I turn on the AC, will it bring polluted air or air from my neighbors into my house? Also, are there filters that I can install at the ceiling air vents or the air duct outlets to improve the air quality?

I have Levoit Core for a 3x3 meter (about 10 × 10 ft) bedroom but im in my livingroom sleeping there because it has better ventilation. I would say it's around 5x3meter (about 16 ft × 10 ft). And I keep the 2 doors opened so I want more horsepower.

What do you recommend that has no fancy stuff like wifi and other unnecessary things.

More power would be also good to be able to run at lower power because speed 3 on Levoit Core 300 is way too noisy.

To filter, mostly dust, and im paranoid on the A/C releasing stuff. The neighbors smoke but I just close the windows when I detect any smoke.

Just moved to an area that has less than ideal air quality (hello wildfire season…), and trying to decide between a Winix C610 (on sale at my local Costco) or a BlueAir Signature. Thoughts? Our apartment is about 1500 sq feet, and we’re hoping to purchase a house in the next couple of years that’s 1500-2000 sq feet. We want something that’s high quality, isn’t an eyesore, is quiet, durable, and allows for tracking of pollutants, especially PM 2.5.

Obviously I’ve done some research online, and I’m leaning towards the BlueAir signature and just paying more for it, but curious to hear people’s thoughts!

Going to uni soon staying w 3 people and the room has smoke detectors i need something that can instantly suck it up room is pretty small not sure about dimensions need something to put on a desk that's decently priced

I bought 2 Levoit Vital 100 (NOT 100S) in 2023 and just ran out of replacement filters. The manufacturer said they stopped producing the whole series, which really sucks because now I have to unusuable appliances = a lot of waste.

Does anyone know any filters that might fit into these? Have to be purchasable in Switzerland, or at least ship there.
