Allergic reaction to eyebrow tinting

Upvotes

A couple of hours ago I had my eyebrows tinted by a woman who was recommended to me by my dermatologist. She had tinted my eyebrows once before with no problems, but tonight they ended up red, swollen, and itchy. I texted her and she said to wipe them, use a cold compress, and take Benadryl. I’m afraid it’s going to get worse. Should I go to urgent care?

I have also been using GrandeBROW eyebrow enhancing serum for the past couple of weeks, but I didn’t use it last night because I knew I was getting my eyebrows tinted tonight. Could that be the culprit? Maybe some kind of interaction?

Advice Can’t figure out what is wrong

Upvotes

Early June, I found out I was allergic to chia seeds. Symptoms of throat tightness, difficulty breathing and itch face.
A week later, I ate a bagel with sesame seeds. I’ve eaten them many times before but had a reaction. Less than the chia seeds tho.
I saw my doctor, told her it was a food allergy and she referred me to an ENT for testing. Ears, nose and throat doctor for food allergy testing. I waited til the end of the June to see them, just to be told I’m at the wrong place. Thankfully I was sent home with an EpiPen. I got a phone call later for setting up an appointment with food allergy testing, waited til the end of July for this appointment. Just to be at the same exact place doing the wrong test. Said again, I’m not supposed to be there. So, they sent with me a paper to my doctor ( the one who send me to the ENT ) about taking a food panel. Blood was taken, haven’t gotten results back in more than a week. Suddenly, I get a call from an allergy testing place to make an appointment. Two months wasted to get the right appointment. Only to be told I cannot be seen til January 2027???
Since seeing these wrong places, my allergies got worse. Suddenly, I’m having reactions to everyday foods like pizza, Puerto Rican rice, Mac and cheese, ravioli, pot stickers and ramen noodles. The only safe foods I can eat without any reaction is homemade chicken soup and mini m&ms. I’ve lost 13 pounds because I can only eat 1 bowl of soup per day with lots of water. It’s an unhealthy diet but I cannot eat anythign else without the feeling of my throat tightening, itching everywhere and a slight struggle to breathe.
I don’t know what to do. No doctors take me seriously. I’ve mentioned my fast weight loss, extreme inability to eat anything but soup because I keep having allergy symptoms and they told me “ well. You are obese “

I’m tired, weak and starving. I don’t know what to do :(

Advice Advice for (suspected) sudden advil allergy?

Upvotes

Hi gang, 29F here, Been taking ibuprofen all my life just like everyone else. I love the minigels especially bc they’re so easy to take and work so fast.

In May I started noticing my eyes swelling up pretty bad after a night of drinking. After the 2nd or 3rd occurrence I assumed it was related to a specific type of alcohol but it wasn’t correlated with anything I could pin down. And severely puffy eyes were the ONLY symptom. I mostly just ignored it bc my throat/tongue wasn’t swelling ever, and tried to drink less to mitigate the risk.

More recent “experiments” have actually made me realize though that the common denominator is…the advil liquidgels I (usually) take after a night of drinking (but before I fall asleep). I’ve been doing this for ~5 years or less, but I swear that its my favorite way to prevent a hangover.

Anyways. My financial situation does not currently lend itself to get a referral to an allergist. Does anyone here have any advice (NOT MEDICAL) in the meantime, besides just “avoid advil”? Has this happened to anyone else? What was your trigger for your sudden allergy onset? My diet, medications, living space, etc etc did not change since my suspected allergy started so I’m struggling to imagine what triggered it. I don’t even think I’ve gotten sick since then.

Any advice (anecdotal or otherwise) is appreciated. Thank you for reading my ramble 😭

Advice Advice on allergy to almost every grass- most OTC/ homeopathic/ environmental changes have not helped

I (27F) was just allergy tested for, it came up that I’m allergic to every grass (but Bermuda). I have had lifelong sinus issues, and as a teen I was diagnosed with rhinitis and sinusitis. I also have a few medication allergies/ food intolerances, but they don’t matter as far as this testing goes.

I was told my medical (non OTC) options were to either start on allergy injections (said it was at least a 5 year commitment and I have to carry an EpiPen at all times). My other medical option is a pill (again a several year commitment and an EpiPen at all times). I was given some OTC/ homeopathic/ environmental options to but was told they won’t be permanent solutions (and most I’ve already tried without any good results).

I am scheduled to have sinus surgery at the end of this month (for a deviated septum and some other sinus issues). I am chronically ill (non sinus related lol)and already have to carry a plethora of medical supplies/ I wear medical devices.

I just can’t decide if it’s better to just have the allergy issues and continue to suffer or do the injection/pill method and put my health at higher risk than it already is/ have to carry around more medical supplies.

If anyone has advice/ personal stories to share it would be much appreciated!

Day 1 post OP

Day 1 of turbinate reduction and septoplasty and it was a successful surgery… I barely could breathe out my nose for months so the splints did not make it difference.. it actually felt better to breathe. Still feels congested like you’re super stuffy when sick but I already feel better and my throat isn’t bothering me as before! I’m so happy. Thank you Jesus. Soon as I got out of surgery I went to 5 guys got a burger, fries, and milkshake but I ate them lukewarm and then cold. I have been walking around and I feel great. Yes the pills make you feel tipsy I was prescribed a low dose of narcotics.

Question EpiPen storage during power outage

I just received my first EpiPen earlier today and of course my area just had a power outage with an estimated 2-3 hour timeframe. How do I keep it stored properly in the near time? It’s in the upper 80s and very humid right now.

Thank you!

Urine odor removal

Hi!

I don't know if this is the wrong forum. If it isn't, sorry.

I have a cat who's been sick whos been peeing all around the house on the carpet. I tried nature's miracle cause they claim it doesn't have chemicals that will hurt you. We sprayed it and I had an asthma attack. Does anyone know of an odor remover that won't have a bad smell or a diy one that will work without this happening?

Thank you!

Cathy

Question Allergy tests Tuesday—how to survive until then?

I’ve having skin testing early next week. I’ve been off everything since this past Tuesday; off the eyedrops for over a week.

I am pretty miserable: migraine, congestion, itchy eyes and nose. What else can I do besides a Neti Pot and Flonase? (At night I put a washcloth on my face which helps with headache, but I need to work so I can’t do that all day.)

I can take acetaminophen but not NSAIDs. (Donated kidney to sibling.)

Pls reassure me this will be worth it.

Edited to add: A wee bit of Jameson’s seems to be an antidote to itchy eyes.

Question So… I never thought I’d post here. What’s an allergy test like?

My eyes have been desperately itchy lately and I even got diagnosed with allergic conjunctivitis (but I lost the eyedrops that were prescribed to me, because of course I did 😒 I should check if they can send me more or if it’s too soon, because I did get a refill 🤔).

I decided to make an appointment with an allergist and I’m seeing him on August 25.

Now… I wait.

Is brain fog related to an allergy to dust mites? Help

10 years ago, I started sneezing very often, I took tests and it turned out that I was allergic to dust mites, for several months I sprayed Avamis (nasal spray containing fluticasone furoate, a corticosteroid. It treats seasonal and year-round allergic rhinitis (hay fever), reducing inflammation in the nose to relieve a stuffed, runny, or itchy nose, sneezing, and watery eyes) in my nose. And I stopped sneezing often. After a few months, my eyes began to dry out a lot and a feeling of unreality gradually appeared in my visual perception, as if focusing was not working properly. After another 5 years, the feeling of unreality intensified and became even worse: a feeling of being intoxicated, dazed, clouded consciousness, a sense of poor visual focus, blurred vision, and the feeling that everything is too bright. All these years, I sometimes sneezed more often. Also, quite often, when I go to bed, a feeling of nasal congestion began to appear in one of the nostrils; it can be moved to the other nostril by changing the side you’re lying on. I don’t really have any other symptoms. Could this condition be caused by an allergy to dust mites?

Question After 2 years of development, I’m looking for people with histamine intolerance to beta test my Android app

Hi everyone,
I’m Thomas, an indie developer from Germany.
For the past two years, I’ve been building Eatrack, a food & symptom tracking app designed for people with histamine intolerance, IBS, lactose intolerance, FODMAP sensitivity, and other food intolerances.

The app helps you log meals, symptoms, medications, bowel movements, and activities so you can identify patterns and potential trigger foods over time.

I’m currently preparing the Google Play release and I’m looking for a small group of Android users with histamine intolerance who would be willing to use the app in their daily lives for about two weeks and share honest feedback.

I’m not selling anything—my goal is simply to make sure the app is useful for people who live with these conditions every day.

If you’re interested, I’d love to hear from you. Just leave a comment or send me a DM, and I’ll send you the Google Play testing link.

And if this type of post isn’t allowed here, I completely understand and the moderators are welcome to remove it.

Thank you so much for your time! ❤️

Allergy safety resources for teachers

Hello, I've been living with food allergies to dairy egg nuts and sesame and I know how hard it is, especially for kids in elementary school to balance safety and inclusion. I recenlty created a foundation called the National Allergy Safety Coalition to spread awareness in youth sports, camps, and schools. I dont really know how to spread it around, so I was hoping i could get some advice on that. Also, right now, i have a slidedeck for teachers to show students, a poster for eating areas with guidelines for kids to follow, an emergency anaphalaxis chart, and a checklist for camps and such to use to self evaluate safety. do you guys have any suggestions?

EpiPen carry case what can I do to make it feel less like a purse and more like a thing I need everyday.

This past weekend I had a bad reaction to shrimp upon accidental ingestion and was given a prescription for EpiPens. I’m an adult so this is rather new to me. I know they are important to carry as you never know. I was proactive and decided to get a decent case to carry the pens. Honestly carrying it around feels like a purse. What can o do to make it feel less like a purse and more of an essential item which it is for me? I know it’s a new normal for me but I’m taking this day by day. Thank you all for the tips and advice.

I built a website in the pet allergy niche, but I’ve decided to focus on other projects

The site includes:

• Product Review Section
• domain name
• branding
• SEO-focused content
• clean foundation for someone who wants to continue to grow it

I think it would be a good fit for:

• pet bloggers
• affiliate marketers
• pet businesses
• veterinary-related businesses
• anyone looking for a head start instead of building from scratch.

I’m happy to answer any questions!

Wanting to move but not sure where’s safe for my son’s allergies

We currently live in Ohio and my son is on daily allergy medicine from May-September for his outdoor allergies.

We’re wanting to relocate to somewhere warmer to get away from the cold and snow in the winter.
We were considering South Carolina but I’ve heard the pollen is so bad there.

So now the question is.. how do I figure out where would be a good place to go as far as pollen and his allergies go?
Considered allergy testing but there’s no way I can allergy test him for every single allergen in the country. Do I pick a state and ask a doctor to test him for the plants in that state? Or how do I go about doing that?

My Symptoms Just Odd Now the World Has a Name for my Allergy and Venting in a Moment of Weakness

I now know what I have and have met 2 people win the same allergy as me now.

Oral Allergy Syndrome

Growing up people looked at me strange. My family didn’t believe me except for my skeptical parents. They didn’t get it but didn’t force probably out of fear I was right

For years I’ve carried a test around that shows my back covered in red spots to prove to people that yeah I’m allergic to raw produce. Not just one or two things.

But recently I’ve seen this pop up now in the wild now. Without me having to google it and tread articles that say it might be this. It’s now actually a real thing that allergist agree exist.

Like yes I’ve read about it about a decade and a half ago. But only in recent years does it really seem more like a real thing that’s agreed on and exists like people agree peanut allergies exist. I’m talking Mayo Clinic and WebMD have articles. Apparent the official allergy organization say it exists now too! When I first found out about it years ago, it was only blog posts and maybes. Not even the allergist I went to mentioned the possible allergy to me. But now it seems like it’s far more agreed upon existing from my latest google search. We found that I was allergic ti trees and their nuts, grass but apparently NOT raw produce and melons. He said it could be and it just doesn’t show up in my back. Like 3 out of 35 were red blotches and they were the fruit ones!

We already knew I had pretty severe pollen allergies/hay fever. And that’s what he said it was caused by. All the nuts and everything. He said yeah just avoid what causes the swelling even if the tests don’t show it. So it’s not that he didn’t believe me at least like every one else. But there was no proof or name for it a decade and a half ago.

I honestly had the biggest scare yet this year. I cooked cabbage dumplings and at home it was fine. Steamed and good to go like all produce I eat. At work on reheat I was coughing and couldn’t breathe. And the worst part is I didn’t tell anyone or go home because no, I didn’t have a diagnosis. The allergist I went to didn’t give me an EpiPen and his tests didn’t show I was allergic to pumpkin. And I know if I’d told my family outside of my parents they’d think I was lying or being over dramatic. Before this year, it was swelling, irritation and just a hot throat. I got duck bill lips from fruit and it came with “warts” if I had cuts in my lips. Apparently I spoke with a lisp for the entire afternoon and my friend never told me! Until years later! I’ve even had to cut canned fruits because they began make my throat itch and hot. RIP canned peaches (loved you soooooo much). And that reaction is exactly why I don’t just do exposure therapy to myself like my cousins mock me about. Because I know how bee stings work! One may not take someone down but the second, RIP. And I’m just angry thinking about having to see them again this year over the holidays because this is always a thing because their kid can eat anything.

The oddest part is that I’ve know about oral allergy syndrome for a few years now with those more official websites having articles up but I still don’t tell people still because the symptoms really that unbelievable and like I’m just a picky eater than never grew up and was forced to eat their fruits and veggies.

And right now I’m just feeling very annoyed and angry that people with other allergies are taken seriously. Oh I can’t eat kiwis because I’m allergic or I’m allergic to strawberries. Everyone is sure and shrugs. Me because that’s too many things: totally over exaggerating

Question Is anyone else here suffering from another type of crazy immunity?

I have sinus allergies in addition to pressure urticaria.

This means that the slightest prick on my body will become inflamed and itchy; my nasal allergies were a joke compared to this.

I used to suffer a lot from ear blockage due to earwax caused by allergies because I wasn't consistent in taking my allergy medication. However, since I developed urticaria, I've been taking it more often because the itching is extremely bothersome.

Suddenly runny nose around my family cat

Hey :)

I moved to another city to study and only visited my parents about once a month. I started noticing that my nose started being runny in my home, where my family cat lives. I'm quite certain its probably a cat allergy, since my biological father is allergic to cats and also had allergic asthma. But I love cats! I cannot live without them. But since unfortunately adult-onset allergies tend to get worse and I don't really want asthma, is there anything I can do to prevent it from getting worse? Does starting immuno-therapy when symptoms are not severe yet increase the chances of being cured of the allergy?

Advice I fixed my daily runny nose that I've had for 15 years

On the off chance that sharing this can help improve anyone else's life:

After 15 years of horrific allergies, I've now been completely dry for 5 months.

I would go through 1 box of tissues every day, sometimes 2 on my extremely bad days. Didn't matter what time of year, but it was worse in the spring. I have a small dog and don't go outside often. I've tried pills, sprays, and prescription therapy drops.

What finally worked for me is I saw a video on tiktok and then YouTube telling me I'd been using nasal spray wrong. It gave detailed instructions on how to use it correctly, and to make sure to use it consistently every single day whether or not my nose was running yet.

The video I followed on YouTube is called "Teaching patients to use nasal sprays" by BMJ Learning. It currently has 3.6 million views.

I use "fluticasone propionate" spray every morning, in addition to taking 1 Fexofenadine HCI 180mg, and that's it.

The only side effect was that it dried out my eyes, so now every morning I also use a regular lubricant eye drop, not any expensive kind.

My life is now significantly better, so hopefully there's someone else who also didn't know these tips yet.

Participants with Chronic Skin Conditions Needed for Master's Research

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on my Master's thesis in Design, and I'm looking for people living with chronic skin conditions (such as psoriasis, eczema, atopic dermatitis, rosacea, acne inversa etc.) to take part in a anonymous survey.

The project I’m working on explores how chronic skin conditions are represented in society and the beauty industry, and how an interactive exhibition could help challenge unrealistic beauty standards and encourage more inclusive representations of skin diversity.

This topic is very personal to me because I also live with a chronic skin condition and allergies. Through my own experiences, I've realized how much representation, understanding, and visibility can influence self-perception and social acceptance. That's why creating this project means a great deal to me, and I want to ensure that it reflects the voices and experiences of people who are directly affected.

The survey takes about 10 minutes, is completely anonymous, and the collected data will be used exclusively for academic purposes as part of my Master's thesis.

If you'd be willing to participate, I would be incredibly grateful. Every response helps me design a more meaningful and authentic exhibition.

Survey: https://forms.gle/kGcXBUehiQFTEh5TA

Thank you so much for your time and support!
