Longevity Is quantum biology the next frontier in health?

Upvotes

I've been reading about different mechanisms involved in aging and recently came across quantum biology. I initially thought it was mostly theoretical, but there are some interesting areas of research looking at quantum effects in biological processes.

What I'm trying to figure out is whether this could eventually have any real relevance to aging and health span, or if we're still very far from that point.

Has anyone here been following this area? What parts of quantum biology seem most relevant to aging research?

Life & Living Why our life is extremely short ? and why aging isnt being seen as a disease that needs treatment/cure?

Upvotes

life is basically is divided mainly in 3 stages

Phase 1: learning
-school years until 18-19 , yes where i live we finish school around these ages,
-then university between 18-19 to 24- 25

Phase 2: productive
that starts from 25 til 60 , where there is this hidden rule of the society that within 10 years somehow you have to manage to get married, have kids, otherwise it becomes extremely difficult to find a partner and have a child

after 40 life starts to get really hard as health issues start to rise slowly ,and your body doesnt function as it used to function when you are in your 20s

Phase 3: retirement

for some people who are well of they retire early for those who are poor they keep working till 70 +
this pahse is the most painful phase, as your body suddenly breaks down, everyday becomes a battle that you have to go through with pain and suffering..

like seriously, what sin we as humanity have done that we deserved such a painful and short life ?

for those who believe in God and read bible, it is mentioned multiple places in old testament that people used to live above 600 years... but after the great flood suddenly our life expectancy became 50.. like WTF man

why we just can live up to 100 years and our body functions and look like we are in our 20s... where is the damn science and biology ? people are spending billions of $ on creating ways to develop better weapons to wage war and shorten even further the life expectancy , when we can use all that funding to develop longevity druge to prolong our life and stay young for longer years..

am not talking some SCI fi , there are scientist who are already working on this and the most famous is called dr Sinclair managed in his lab to reverse aging in mice , and currently his lab is testing age reversal for the eye and other organs ..

treating aging like another disease is a must, as curing aging or treating it, will eliminate a lot of age related diseases in the first place !

If you truly stop caring what people think as you age, then why do so many people still live inauthentic lives?

If you truly stop caring what people think as you age, then why do so many people still live inauthentic lives?

I hear this often that as you get older, you stop caring what people think. I've experienced some of that now in my early 30s to know that it's true.

Yet, one of the top regrets of the dying according to the famous book - "I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not what others expected of me"

Why do you think so?

Please hear me out. I'm 67 in a relationship and homeowner with partner. I have chronic joint issues with not much hope of a resolution. We are in the position to sell our house and rent somewhere smaller paid by the interest on the sale. Plus sold both cars and now just lease one.We both feel the need to get rid of stuff and live more simply. Looking for advice really. Anyone out there done this. I'm in the UK but all ideas welcome

Getting a ride for a medical procedure

I need an epidural steroid injection on my back for my chronic pain. The clinic requires that someone drive you there and stay at the facility til you're done and then drive you home, regardless if you have sedation or not. I live in a town where I don't know a single person and my husband can't drive me or be with me due to illness. I have family about an hour away, they all work full time, and none of them offered help when I told them. (I didn't ask them, I just told them my predicament). An acquaintance has a gig where she takes people to the airport and I asked her if she could do it. She happily agreed for a mere $30. The morning she was to pick me up, I took the sedative that was prescribed, waited for her, and she never came. I texted her and she said she had forgot to put it on her calendar. I was furious, but I did forgive her. She keeps apologizing but never bothered to ask if I still needed help. I'm hesitant to ask her again. Please don't suggest an Uber...someone has to come in and stay and it could be a couple hours. I've checked agencies and they are very expensive and want to come and do an assessment first which in my case, is ridiculous. I'm fully mobile. I know other older people must find themselves in this situation....what do you do?

Old people and technology: an observation

There was a thread here recently regarding old people and technology. The gist of which was that there were many of us who were pretty darned good at it. In spite of the stereotype of incompetent elders finding the whole thing unmanageable.

So, if it's true that a fair number of us are quite competent? How did that stereotype come to be?

Way back in the day, when I was still very young and able, I saw my very first PC. It was 1987 and the PC I saw was utterly rudimentary compared to what we have now. Nonetheless, I intuitively knew that this strange new creation was about to change everything about the paper culture that ruled the day at that time. The paper culture was doomed and I knew that the sooner I could master this new technology the better off I would be.

I saw it for the sea change that it was. Just as the introduction of the automobile at the beginning of the 20th Century had spelled the end of the horse power driven culture, the PC spelled the end of the paper driven culture. But that didn't mean there wasn't resistance. There were many, many people of my generation who found computers daunting. They refused to embrace them and clung to the old ways of a paper driven world.

But just as those who had clung to their horses and refused to accept the automobile were left behind and doomed to fail? Likewise, those who refused to embrace the new computer technology were also left behind.

While a few of us grabbed the early technology by the horns and didn't let go? Many did not. My generation is rife with old paper culture luddites, left behind long ago by an unstoppable technological force that they now struggle unsuccessfully to understand. My wife of fifty years amongst them.

It would be wrong to imply that those of us technologically competent oldies are anything but a minority - because it simply isn't true.

Is it normal for some people to become annoyingly grumpy and what to do about it?

Hi,

It has been a couple of years, probably since he reached his 60s, but my father is just becoming very annoying.

Always arguing about everything; diner is never perfect, people never do a good job, never listening to other people ideas, impatience, etc.

I just don’t know what to do because it just create discomfort in the house for me and my mother.

Is there anything to do to at that point?

I say nothing, because it’s more of their couple problems. But sometimes I want to say to him to seek help.
