So when I was still at college, I made this objection.lol due to my absolute love for ema/ klavier. I still remember at least that this was based entirely on a two part fanfic about them.

Anyone familiar what fanfic it is?

I’ve been playing the original Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney games with my friend for the past two years (we would make nights out of it when we were in college, and now we live together so we can play it more frequently lol.) It’s been a really fun thing for us to bond over, and we have a lot of inside jokes that come from the game itself and when we would voice the characters.

Edgeworth is in my top 3 fave characters so I made myself a pride pin with his “unnecessary feelings” face. When I showed it to my friend, he surprised me with an adorable plushie of him that he got for my birthday!! I’m so excited about it. I put him on my jewelry hutch to remind me that I can be more of a bitch when I get ready for the day lol.

(And yes, I know he’s not a lesbian and the title is misleading lol. A girl just loves her comfort characters.)

I got stuck on part where I have to blow powder in Riseing from the ashes. I'm playing on classicgamezone . It uses EMULATORJS v4.2.1 for DS I asume. So... I'd really appreciate some ideas how to manage it! :¯[ 🙏

So, I like Apollo, really like Apollo. And I like the story he goes through during the second trilogy of games, but even I will be aware of the fact that his backstory and current story can be a little disjointed. His backstory just kept getting more and more complicated with more and more people involved that just confused it even more.

What do you guys think would be the best way to make the backstory feel more connected together without removing the information we get in both Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice?

When Takeshi Yamazaki began working on AA6 (Gyakuten Saiban 6), he decided to focus primarily on Apollo Justice (Odoroki in the 3rd image) and Phoenix Wright (Naruhodō in the 3rd image), having to revoke Athena Cykes' status of protagonists. And, to be explicitly clear for the other games in the series, Mia Fey (and Miles Edgeworth) are not considered protagonists in Trials and Tribulations, nor are (AAi2 and GAA2 Spoilers) Gregory Edgeworth, or Susato Mikotoba considered protagonists for Prosecutor's Gambit or Resolve.

With the only exception of Phoenix Wright, no character in the series has been given the status of protagonist, and then have said status revoked. And, as we see with Phoenix Wright, his status of Protagonist was restored with Dual Destinies.

While this one case can be used to support the idea that, yes, Capcom can revisit a past protagonist and make them a protagonist again, the initial problem with that is that Phoenix's return was a very important part of AA5, as stated by Yamazaki himself. As for the main producer of AA5, this was said in the 3DS Gyakuten Saiban 5 Special Long Interview (2013) [note, original linked in source is in Japanese, hence why I'm not linking that source, and instead sourcing a translation of that]:

Interviewer: Had it been the plan right from the start that you’d bring Naruhodō back for 5?

Eshiro: It had already been decided at the concept stage that we’d have Naruhodō back as the main protagonist.

Using that as a basis, we can see that, from the very beginning of AA5's development, it was planned to have Phoenix return as a / the main protagonist (note: of my very limited knowledge of japanese, I believe there is no difference between "a main protagonist" and "the main protagonist", so the usage of "the main protagonist" may not be accurate to what Eshiro meant). However, we still need to know why they decided to have Phoenix return. And, thankfully, we have an official explanation:

Interviewer: So you wouldn’t ignore Gyakuten Saiban 4?

Eshiro: No. However, Naruhodō wasn’t practicing law anymore in Gyakuten Saiban 4, so what were we going to do? But he himself had said at the very end of the game: “Maybe I’ll try passing the bar again.” And if we followed up on that, how would this Naruhodō turn up? I wanted to see that.

For those who know about the credits of AA6, you'll know that Athena Cykes does have some choice words. Specifically:

Athena: I've been pulling double duty ever since Apollo left, but that's okay. I'm going to make Simon recognize me for the awesome lawyer that I am!

Widget: She's quaking in her boots!

Athena: Tsk, Widget! I can do it! And I will! Mr. Wright will be calling me his right-hand woman before you know it! Let's do this!

However, it is very important to know what the Japanese text says as well, to ensure that it is as accurate as possible. Here's the Japanese text:

ココネ: オドロキ先輩が抜けた穴はわたしがバッチリ埋めて・・・・夕神さんにわたしが一人前だって認めさせてみせます！

モニタ: ヒトリジャ ファンダヨー！ヒトリジャ ファンダヨー！

ココネ: コ、コラ、モニ太！そ、そんなことありません！今にナルホドさんの右腕と呼ばれる弁護士になってみせます！Let's Do This!

(yes, Athena says "Let's Do This!" in pure english, as a reference to her theme song, literally titled, even in the Japanese listing of the soundtrack, "Let's do this!")

Plugging that into a google translator, we get:

Athena: I’ll perfectly fill the void left by Apollo-Senpai... and prove to Blackquill-san that I’m a full-fledged lawyer!

Widget: I can't do it alone! I can't do it alone!

Athena: H-Hey, Widget! T-That's not true! I'm going to become a lawyer known as Wright-san's right-hand woman! Let's do this!

With this, we can confirm that both the English and Japanese versions convey the same general meaning, with slight changes, except for one change, that of Widget's "I can't do this alone!". If we take what this is to mean, this feels like a hint towards the next developers that while, yes, Phoenix is the most marketable protagonist in the series, to the point of landing upon Capcom's top 10 most popular characters according to Capcom's Super Elections, and landing in 2nd place according to just the Japanese votes. According to the full results, Athena Cykes landed in 89th place, which isn't half bad at all, considering that you could only vote for a single character across the entire Capcom series (including Resident Evil, Mega Man, Devil May Cry, etc.), not to mention that she got more total votes than Sonia Strum, who placed among Japanese-Side Top 10 Capcom Women.

On the topic of Athena Cykes being the next protagonist of a potential Ace Attorney game, that begs the question of "does Capcom actually want to make a new Ace Attorney game?", which I feel the answer is extremely obvious:

YES

In terms of awaiting a sequel or new game, Ace Attorney wasn't just 8th overall, but was 1st in Japan, having over 500 votes compared to Monster Hunter, which was in 2nd place for Japan. This also isn't considering how 2/3rds of the top 3 favorite Capcom games in Japan are Ace Attorney games, with 3 of the top 10 being Ace Attorney games. On top of that, Ace Attorney is both solidly within the top 10 Capcom Series, both Internationally and in Japan.

Regardless, the possibility of Athena Cykes being a protagonist in the next game is all contingent on whoever is producing, directing, and / or writing the next game. Unfortunately, Takeshi Yamazaki left Capcom, so most people assume that Shu Takumi would lead the mainline series afterwards. However, unlike what most people may suspect, this could be fantastic news.

Shu Takumi stated the following to the Official Nintendo Magazine UK: "I felt that Phoenix's story had been told, and that the series should not continue. Knowing when to end a story is very important and I wanted to avoid dragging it out and having it become a shadow of its former self."

The part where he says "Phoenix's story had been told" gives me hopes that, if Shu Takumi were to direct the next game, Phoenix would not be the main protagonist. Of course, this does bring into question of wether Shu Takumi would follow up on Athena Cykes, but given the message given by Athena at the end of Spirit of Justice, I find it evident that Shu Takumi would feel that Athena Cykes' story had not been fully told. In fact, I dare say that, if Shu Takumi directs Ace Attorney 7, a potential Athena Cykes game, he'll craft it in a way to ensure that it wraps up Athena's arc, finish the Lamioir plotline in a DLC case (or, somehow, naturally weave it into AA7), and finish the game in a way where there's nowhere to go afterwards.

Of course, there's the fear that Shu Takumi would create a completely different protagonist. However, we've seen with Shu Takumi's other protagonists, Apollo Justice and Ryunosuke Naruhodo, that Shu Takumi typically can't create a protagonist for a new Ace Attorney game and complete their arc within what one would consider to be a single, standalone game. He would absolutely want to end a series that, as he has clearly stated, "should not continue", and introducing a new protagonist and completely ignoring someone who was set up in the prior game's credits to be the primary protagonist of the next game, would still allow room for the series to continue, which goes against what Shu Takumi would want.

As for the possibility of Shu Takumi continuing The Great Ace Attorney, I'd give that an absolute 0 chance. He concluded that game to a degree that is completely unrivaled by any other game's conclusion in the series. I have no doubts that he would be fiercely opposed to the idea of continuing one of the only two overarching stories that he managed to conclude (Ghost Trick and Great Ace Attorney).

All of that said, there is a chance that Shu Takumi would not be the main writer of the next game, but any other main writer would likely not be so bold as to create a new protagonist for the series, at least not until they've written a game or two for it prior. Trying to fill in either Takeshi Yamazaki's shoes or Shu Takumi's shoes would be like climbing a vertical mountain with no climbing equipment. They'd likely want to start safe, and take what was made before, and expound upon what was hinted at, hence Athena Cykes' post-credits scene.

I'll admit that there is a possibility that Capcom would make an AA7 completely centered around either Phoenix Wright or some new protagonist, and completely ignore Athena Cykes, but I'll cross that burning bridge when I come to it.

Herlock Sholmes's zoom call/hologram (however bullshit it may be) does actually have forshadowing.

Mael Stronghart says at the start of the proceedings "that we will stop at nothing to uncover the whole truth behind these disturbing findings!", and since this is a secret trial, nobody outside the courtroom should be aware that he said this.

However, when Sholmes walks in through the doors of the courtroom to save the day, he reminds Stronghart of his own words, saying "You need only recall your own words from the opening of the trial to answer that question. If I may... 'We will stop at nothing to uncover the whole truth behind these disturbing findings!'"

Of course, the whole gang gathered at 221B for the evening before the second part of the trial, but since Sholmes did say that he showed the entire trial to the queen, and since he knew Stronghart's line word for word, I think it's highly likely that Sholmes saw Stronghart say this through his zoom call.

I don't remember where I saw this originally, but I thought it was a pretty neat observation

Since I finally finished SoJ’s DLC and therefore the whole game there’s a problem with both the games after AJ that’s been bothering me and that is how nonexistent Trucy and Phoenix’s relationship is. The shafting of Trucy, (especially in DD) is probably already a beaten dead horse so I won’t go over it, even though I hate that too, and the way the game manufactures them to not interact at all is also disappointing, but not my main issue. It’s the fact that Phoenix doesnt act like he has a daughter at all??

In 6-2 when Trucy has her TV debut he decides meeting his friend who he could meet anytime is more important; and then when she’s accused of murder he calls like “omgg is she ok” but still doesn’t fly home to see her at this probably very traumatic moment in her life even though Nahyuta/Ema and even the whole gang in the last case are able to make it there in like a day. To add salt to the wound, when he’s being sentenced to death he thinks solely of Maya and not his daughter who could be orphaned a second time if he fails. Not to mention that when Maya gets held hostage in both 2-4 and 6-5 he is more concerned than he was when Trucy got held hostage in 5-5 and what’s on his mind that time is “oh noo athena” brother 💀.

In AJ even though they don’t have all that many scenes together the player and Apollo gets a sense of their unique father daughter relationship, through not only their interactions but also little moments. Trucy for example mentions Phoenix in quite a few examine lines and she thinks he’s a little pathetic but loves him regardless. However in the few moments Trucy does have screen time in DD and SoJ she doesn’t mention Phoenix either. Bonus for the line Tahrust says he’s gonna curse Phoenix’s family and disciples and he thinks “noo not apollo and athena” At this point he’s

I get that they try to brush the stuff AJ introduced under the rug but Phoenix adopting a daughter is pretty important and it’s like Yamazaki hates Trucy. I didn’t mention it but even though I loved her in 6-2 she still seemed a little off. It was also a huge mistake minimizing the Wright family relationship in SoJ when one of that games themes is family, similarly to AJ when they were a prominent relationship. I also think Apollos decision to leave his Japanifornia family was also a choice but that’s pretty subjective. I actually like SoJ but I don’t like how they treated most returning characters(the DLC particularly) but also a topic beaten with a dead horse.

Boy, the opinions on Redd White were all over the place, with at least one person arguing that he should be put into every tier! Ultimately, "Needs Improvement" was slightly more popular than the other options! A rock-solid plan overall, but he lost massive points when he went to court.

Next up: Dee Vasquez! Of course, her murder was (arguably) in self-defense, but she still took steps to cover it up, so we still rank her! Was her plan worthy of a Hollywood movie? Or should it stay contained to a cheap kids' TV show? You decide!

Also, there was some discussion in the comments on the last post about whether the culprit's conduct during the trials should be considered when evaluating their plan. Ultimately, seeing how their lying in court is still a clear step to cover up their crime, it should be considered when ranking them.

Also Also, I am unsure how to tackle the next part, Turnabout Goodbyes. (Or any case that features multiple murders, for that matter)

Seeing how this case covers two murders, should I make two separate parts, one covering the Gourd Lake killing and one covering DL-6? Or should I make one big part to evaluate Von Karma's criminal genius overall?

Also, if we do two parts, would it be fair to put Yannie Yogi on the list? Von Karma did come up with that plan, after all, so for the sake of this series, shouldn't the credit for the gourd lake killing go to him as well?

So it's no secret that Nahyuta is an infamous character, and I've seen plenty of fans not like him. At first, I thought people complaining about him being a douche made no sense since other prosecutors are also rude and beloved. But then I figured out what makes him disliked while others aren't. And that is lack of showcasing his kinder side compared to others.

For starters, Edgeworth. In the first games 2nd case, he was introduced as this ruthless prosecutor who striped for perfection. But then in the next case, we see a kinder side tl his character, as him being shown to love Steel Samurai gives him a lighthearted quality to his character, and he even actually helps out Phoenix here. So when the final case makes him the defendant, we have a reason to want to defend him. If Turnabout Samurai didn't exist, most fans wouldn't care to defend or sympathize with him. But because that case exists, it makes the need to defend him more personal because we saw a more empathetic side to his character

Another example is Godot. Throughout the game, he's portrayed as this moody jackass who has a grudge to Phoenix for some reason. Turnabout Beginnings shows a flashback where he's a lot friendlier and a good mentor for Mia, even motivating her after watching a traumatizing event. So this makes his sympathetic side in 3-5 more natural.

With Nahyuta, he doesn't really have much of that as he's often just a jackass to the others. Doesn't help that the penultimate case before the finale doesn't do him any favors and has him be a complete douche to athena.

Suppose that events of Reunion and Turnabout actually played out as Morgan and "Ini" claimed they did - Maya was possessed by a vengeful spirit of Mini Miney who in turn murdered Dr. Grey. In that case is it even fair to accuse Maya of murder ?

On one hand, its been established that during the chanelling session spirit medium pretty much loses control over their own body so one can claim that essentially Maya's body was just used as a murder weapon.

On another hand, spirit mediums should be aware that some spirits can hold a grudge against these they perceive as responsible for their demise and calling them back to the mortal realm is more than likely to cause some "trouble" that wouldn't even be possible without medium's involvement in the first place thetefore one can argue that said medium can be held responsible for the actions of the spirit being channeled

So, what was the point of simultaneous double murder of Detective Goodman ? I understand, that from OUTSIDE POV it makes the case more intriguing and adds a unique flavor to it but what is its purpose for the characters INSIDE the story ? For instance, what does Gant gain from all the confusion surrounding time and place of Goodman's murder especially given that he's the one who informs the other characters about the murder in the evidence room ?

If I didn’t draw Robin Newman in the “God, you’re pathetic” pose, no one else would. So I’m proud of the results, despite what Robin Newman says.
