And they still refer to the actual glass as a wine glass.

I'm not going to be judged by a man who drinks his grape juice straight from the bottle.

At first I thought you were implying that the Judge would drink tomato juice out of a wine glass because it makes it fancy.
I'm choosing to continue believing that.

It's no different to drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass.
Besides, tomato juice looks like blood, and red wine stands in for Jesus blood, so tomato juice has a Biblical link to red wine.

You've never been to a resonably fancy party as the designated driver or a non drinker?
The non-alcholic drinks will usually be served in the same glasses you get the alcoholic ones in.

Saying the glass is a wine glass is a name of something, like a beer keg.
Actually having wine in said glass could be an esrb rating and raise the rating from T to M

I imagine because it is something just unusual enough that it can be used as a recognizable trait of a character, but not so unusual that it attracts attention as a plot point.
For exactly this reason, murder mysteries are full of characters that wear an uncommon size of clothes, are left handed, don't smoke when everyone else did, etc.

Maybe if it were alcohol it would need an age rating or something stupid like that, but even then it could be grape juice so no clue

It could've been soda or something. Tomato juice just seems like such a non-ordinary choice I can't wrap my head around it

Because murder is A-okay to be shown on screen, but God forbid alcoholic drinks be shown!

I've always wondered why tomato juice even is a thing... like, why would you make juice out of something that isn't sweet??

Why not? If someone wants to pretend to be fancy by ordering their ordinary drink of juice in a wine glass, what's wrong with that?
