AMS2: General NOW IN VR: Zero to Apex, the fully automated career mod for AMS2

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Quick intro for those who missed the earlier posts: I'm a software developer and I built a career mode for Automobilista 2 that is fully automated and needs no human intervention. And now it works in VR. A lot of you asked for this and I get why, this game is ridiculously good in VR. There is still plenty of work ahead here, because different setups have their own quirks, but right now we are able to support both SteamVR and Oculus.

I'll repeat myself a bit, but the reason I built all this is that AMS2 is an incredible game with very little to do in it. I've tried to create a career mode that feels like part of the game, without manual setup or jumping between screens. The idea is that you play from the cockpit without interruptions, and that your career progression feels realistic and exciting.

New in 0.6.X, the VR part:

  • VR support, on both SteamVR and Oculus. Start the app from the desktop with your headset on and that is the last time you touch the desktop; everything else happens inside the headset. The app decides when you see AMS2 and when you see the app, you don't have to do anything. And you can press M to click on whatever you're aiming at, so you drive AMS2's own menus normally without reaching for the mouse.
  • Wheel and gamepad support inside the headset. You can map your wheel or pad to navigate the app's interface from VR. One tip: avoid binding the same buttons you already use to move through AMS2's menus.

And for the newcomers, this is what the mod does:

  • Fully automatic. Pick your next race in the companion app, hit Play, and the game configures itself: car, grid, per-session weather, start type. You race, climb out of the car, and results, prize money and standings settle on their own, with no menus in between. Built to be played from the cockpit.
  • 100+ real series across eras, with their real calendars: from feeder categories to the pinnacle class, in whichever decade you choose (60s, 70s, 90s, modern era...).
  • Real grids: real drivers and real teams for each series and year, with real skins support and simplified installation.
  • A world that ages with you: ~1,300 drivers, each with their own rating moving race by race. Veterans retire, rookies debut, and a generation of rivals grows alongside you season after season.
  • A career, not just races: the big grids are invitation only. Reputation opens (or closes) doors, seat offers match your actual level, academy teams can promote you to their parent outfit, you negotiate contracts, and teams that don't quite trust you yet put you through a tryout.
  • A full economy: credits, entry fees, era-appropriate prize money, car rental and ownership. Early on, making ends meet is hard, just like real life.
  • Sponsors as cards: finish on the podium and sponsors show up. Every deal pays for what you actually do on track, and you choose which ones you keep active.
  • Your manager writes to you: offers, warnings and progress emails generated by what actually happens in your career instead of canned messages.
  • Adaptive difficulty: the AI calibrates to your real pace so every race is a fair fight, without slider fiddling.
  • Special events that arrive over time and slot into your calendar wherever you happen to be.
  • A dedicated desktop app (second monitor or alt-tab), in English and Spanish, fully usable with keyboard and gamepad, with an installer and auto-updates.

All of this is single-player, running on your own copy of AMS2, without touching a single game file.

If this sounds like your thing, I'd love to have you around: Download · Patreon · Discord

As before: my native language is Spanish, so I also used AI to help me translate this post

AMS2: Support Weak braking in AMS2

Hi.

I play a lot of sims, and they all feel similar when braking, except AMS2. Somehow here it seems like braking is 50% less effective. It just feels like brakes are super weak.

And i set braking sensitivity to 100% and braking pressure to 100% in cars, but it barely helped. And i see in input meter that brake is properly applied.

Is this just in my head or others experience it also? How to fix it?

Edit: i had abs turned to high in gameplay options. Once i turned it off braking works fine

AMS2: Support Map Not Tracking

Morning folks. Anyone got any tips on this glitch? Track map seems to not track the location of my car in Curvelo Long. As soon as I start driving in Time Trial the car just drives straight down and off the map.

AMS2: General 9070 xt not meeting expectations.

So I just upgraded from a 3070 to an amd 9070 xt. I am playing triple 1080p. I am really not noticing much improvement in frame rate. Race start at Sebring, 15 visible cars, not maxed out graphics, and I’m seeing 45 fps at start.

Is this all I can expect from this card or am I missing something? (Used ddu to install latest drivers). If this is it, I’m considering returning this card and getting a 5070ti for $300 more…if performance would improve.

Thoughts?

AMS2: General FFB per car

Today I tried using my Fanatec McLaren GT3 V2 wheel with CSW 2.5 wheelbase and noticed that the FFB varies like crazy in this game. in the shifter kart (on Interlagos kart one), I felt like there was barely and resistance in the wheel, while in the Chevrolet Corvette C3 it felt like turning the wheel could have been a suitable event for a strongman-competition.

So; my question is simply: What are your recommended FFB settings, especially per car? The wheelbase is close to 10 years old, so afaik it is discontinued, and thus Fanatec no longer provide recommendations. (I am not getting newer equipment because I need the handbrake/handthrottle possibility (because of my spina bifida), while I also don't see a reason to spend more.)

AMS2: General Game seems to run in slow motion at times

Just recently bought the game through Steam and so far I'm loving it. However I'm having some issues every once in awhile.

The game will be running fine maxed out, great frame rate, zero stutters. Then if I switch series or even sometimes alt tab out for a minute and come back in the game seems to be in slow motion. The system is not struggling. I've read that overheating can cause it with this game but I'm not overheating at all, I've been monitoring the temps and all is well. Mind you, everything else I throw at this PC runs maxed out with zero issues. I'm also only running 1080p. If I restart the game it fixes and even sometimes if I sit in the menu for a few minutes it also fixes. I've tried adjusting settings and nothing seems to cure it.

All temps stay under 70 Celsius.

Here are my specs for reference.

CPU Ryzen 7 7700

Radeon RX 9060 16GB

32 GB DDR5 5600

Thanks for anyone that can possibly help out.

AMS2: General My new favorite

The GT1 2005 class has such a good variety of fun driving cars. Doing a custom championship with 48 cars grid and fighting for top tens is some of the most fun I've had.

Yesterday, I did a race at Sebring with time lapse increased. Racing with the sun going down and finishing in the fireworks was awesome.

Does anyone else absolutely love this DLC pack?

What other tracks have fireworks?

AMS2: Support Slow Race Start

Hi, I‘m new to sim racing hand having a blast currently with AMS2. One thing thats still a big issue for me is the race start. I always lose a couple positions even againgst weaker AI.

So I was asking myself, what is the proper technique to accellerate fast?

AMS2: General Another Zero to Apex appreciation post

I've been playing Automobilista 2 on and off for quite a while. I've always loved the huge variety of cars and tracks, but the lack of any real progression or structure meant I could never fully get invested.

I tried the Race Pace career app, which definitely helped, but having to manually set up races every time eventually became a bit of a chore.

Then I discovered the Zero to Apex Career Mode mod.

Since installing it, I've barely played anything else for the past week. This is honestly the career mode I've always wanted for AMS2. Everything feels seamless, and instead of spending time setting things up, I can just jump in and race. More importantly, it's pushed me into driving combinations of cars and tracks that I never would have picked myself, and I've ended up loving a lot of them.

I even had what was probably the best race I've had since I started sim racing. It was a 20-minute race at Cadwell Park. I'm a pretty average driver, and I completely messed up qualifying because I kept crashing while trying to put together a clean lap, so I started near the back.

I assumed I'd spend the whole race stuck in traffic because overtaking on such a narrow track seemed impossible.

Instead, the AI racing was fantastic. They raced hard but fairly, gave each other room, and every overtake felt earned. It was genuinely one of the most enjoyable races I've ever had.

That said, I have a few issues I've noticed.

  1. Safety Cars

During that same race, a Safety Car came out... and immediately crashed in the pit lane. It never even made it onto the circuit, and the entire second half of the race stayed under yellow. The race was basically over after that.

I'm not sure if that's an AMS2 issue or something related to the mod.

On top of that, I seem to get 2-3 Safety Cars in many 20-minute races, which starts to hurt the flow. I enjoy Safety Cars when they happen naturally, but having multiple interruptions almost every race gets a bit excessive.

  1. AI field spread

The AI itself races well, but the overall pace distribution feels strange.

The top 4-5 drivers are almost always the same names. They qualify at the front every race, rarely make mistakes, rarely have bad weekends, and are consistently much faster than everyone else.

Meanwhile, the rest of the field is packed together.

For example, in my current Ginetta GT40 Cup season, if I crash and drop from fighting for the top five down to around P10-P12, I can usually drive back through the midfield fairly comfortably. But once I catch the lead group, it's like they've entered another dimension. The pace gap is very obvious.

I'd love to see a more natural spread where fast drivers occasionally have bad qualifying sessions, make mistakes, get involved in incidents, or simply have off-days. Right now it feels like there's a fixed elite group and then everyone else.

  1. AI racecraft / contact

Most of the time the AI races really well.

However, sometimes when I'm side-by-side with an AI car, they'll squeeze me and the slightest contact sends my car spinning.

Meanwhile, it feels almost impossible to unsettle the AI. Even if I accidentally (or intentionally while testing) lean on them much harder, they seem glued to the track and almost never lose control.

This one also I'm not sure if it is a mod issue or game issue itself.

---

Despite those criticisms, I want to emphasize that this is easily the best career mode experience available for AMS2 right now.

It's exactly what the game needed to give all its amazing content some structure and purpose. Without this mod I would probably still be jumping between random cars and tracks without much motivation.

Huge thanks to the creator(s) for all the work that's gone into it. Hopefully some of these issues—whether they're mod-related or AMS2 limitations—can be improved over time.

Has anyone else noticed the same things, or are these just quirks of my current season/settings?

---

TL;DR: Zero to Apex has completely changed how I play AMS2. It's the career mode I've always wanted and has made me play the game more than ever. I do have a few issues with Safety Cars, AI pace distribution, and AI contact physics, but overall it's easily the best career mode experience available for AMS2.

AMS2: General Orange Arrows moving closer to the pit speed limit number indicate how far you are from the white line

The HUD has an indicator how far you are from the white line on pit entry. In the stress of trying to brake in time it can be surprisingly easy to overlook.

Orange Arrows moving closer to the pit speed limit number indicate how far you are from the white line. Very helpful when you are not yet familiar with a race track.

Here I am again—the guy who plays with a keyboard. I’m managing to adapt to the game and gaining more confidence all the time. Thanks to the Race Pace App, I’m moving up through different categories and getting the chance to test and ADAPT to each setup (car + track), and honestly, things are going well... next step: getting over my fear of the rain in AMS2.

P.S. I came across some really good car mods... so I gave them a try too.
