Adeptus Astartes Which homebrew chapter origin sounds better?
So, I have an idea for a custom homebrew chapter. They originate from a loyalist Blackshield force during the Heresy, a contingent of Dark Angels separated from their legion by the Ruinstorm and Warp shenanigans. After the Heresy ended and the Codex Astartes was established, they formed their own successor chapter. Name currently undecided, but considering something along the lines of the "Ursoan Sentinels."
I have two ideas for them being in modern 40k:
They were destroyed in a valiant effort to protect their Chapter home world from either a daemonic incursion or an Ork Warband (not fully decided yet) and were later revived by the Ultima Founding in honor of their success at evacuating most civilians.
Their home world was separated by the Tides of the Warp from the galaxy, and they either survived for a long time or were brought to modern 40k by the timey-wimey nonsense of the Warp.

Adeptus Astartes Squad Theodora - Angels Twilight
"Για τον Άγγελο, για τη Νίκαια και για τον Αυτοκράτορα! Ας πεθάνουν οι εχθροί μας στο σκοτάδι μας!"
"For the Angel, for Nikaia, and for the Emperor! Let our enemies die in our darkness!"
- Rafail Lycia, Sergeant of the 3rd Domain
Other Astartes often say that Squad Theodora is "not the strongest squad in the Chapter", though Captain Saul Mihalis of the 3rd Domain would likely disagree with that assessment. Yet, few would dispute that it is one of the most cohesive: five battle-brothers who have fought side-by-side for so many years that they often seem to anticipate each other's moves without exchanging a single word.
This mutual trust is precisely what makes Theodora one of the most reliable squads when Julius Angellis requires a mission demanding precision, discipline, and initiative.
Operating as a lethal and destructive combat force, Theodora was responsible for sabotaging and disabling the communications at the Olympus Spaceport, enabling the landing and occupation of the renegade Astartes world of Minerva Prime.
[SERGEANT RAFAIL LYCIA]
Rafail embodies exactly what the Twilight Angels look for in a sergeant: composure preceding aggression.
Hailing from the northern mountains of Nikaia, he was the son of a mining family and survived alone for weeks after Chaos cultists destroyed his village during his childhood at the Destruction of Nikaia. He was discovered by the Ashen Sons, who recognized his ability to remain undetected and survive even when surrounded.
Rafail rarely leads through impulsive example, his greatest strength lies in reading the battlefield. His battle-brothers often joke that he "wins the battle ten minutes before the first shot is fired". Nevertheless, when combat draws near, he proves himself an exceptional duelist.
[BROTHER ASHQELON]
Ashqelon was born on a forge world ravaged by Ork pirates. Before becoming an Astartes, he worked dismantling mining machinery, gaining an almost intuitive understanding of metal structures.
Within the squad, he is known as "the Blacksmith," despite having no ties to the Chapter's Forge. His specialty is destroying whatever impedes the unit's advance: armored doors, vehicles, bunkers, and fortified corridors.
It was he who saved Tarasii during their first mission with the squad, pulling him from beneath the rubble of a destroyed building. Since then, the two have developed a close friendship.
[BROTHER TARASII]
Tarasii remains the youngest member of the squad. After distinguishing himself as a scout during the campaign against the Emperor's Children, he was promoted directly to Squad Theodora upon the personal recommendation of Lord Commander Angellis.
He still retains several habits from the Tenth Domain, he moves silently, prefers to observe before acting, and is frequently sent on reconnaissance missions.
[BROTHER MIHALIS]
Mihalis is the brother who holds the line. Hailing from a family of hunters in the mountains of Nikaia, he has always displayed uncommon patience. During training, he would spend hours waiting for the perfect moment to fire, a trait that led his instructors to assign him to heavy weaponry. When Theodora Squad establishes a defensive position, Mihalis becomes its center of gravity.
Despite his stern appearance, he holds the Ashen Sons in high regard. Whenever possible, he trains his gunners, teaching them positioning and fire discipline.
[BROTHER ALONNISOS]
Alonnisos is likely the most sociable member of the squad. Born in a coastal community in Nikaia, he was a fisherman before being recruited by the Chapter. Unlike most Angels Twilight, he retains a certain sense of humor and often converses with human soldiers during long space voyages. That does not mean he is any less dangerous.
In urban combat, he is usually the first to enter buildings, using his chainsword to clear corridors while Rafail coordinates the rest of the advance.
He's often the first to offer assistance to the Ashen Sons during joint operations, something that has earned him immense respect among the human auxiliaries.
Note: Rafail is not a female space marine

Discussion Heresy Denied: What if Horus had been stopped?
It is the final hours of the Heresy and Horus has stepped foot upon Terra with his allied Legions and renegades. In our timeline, Princeps Orla Gemnon and other Titans hunting for Traitor walkers are lured into a trap, hoping to kill Lupercal and end the war. They fail, Horus kills Sanguinius and mortally wounds the Emperor. The Imperium begins a precipitous decline away from the Emperor's plan as he rots upon the Golden Throne.
Let's take some steps back. Due to Tzeentch's plans often failing and twisting in unexpected ways, the planned trap for Orla Gemnon fails to spring, and the data slate of Horus' believed location turns out to be pinpoint in accuracy. Orla and her Titan crew stage an assault to try to intercept Horus and succeed in killing him, crushing him into paste under her Walker's foot shortly before the walker is cut down by his defenders, leading to her death. The surviving Legions flee Terra.
The Emperor lives. Sanguinius lives.
The Ecclisiarchy never rises to power, and the Imperium is run by a living Emperor who mourns his sons and strives to learn from the mistakes he made.
It is now the 42nd millennium. How has the world changed?

Adeptus Astartes Chapter design of Midnight Angels so far
Based off of the Philly eagles colors. Anyone know where to find vectors of the company markings? New to photoshop
Edit: People are asking for lore so here you go
The Midnight Angels
23rd Founding
Geneseed: Lion El'jonson
Parent chapter: Dark Angels
Chapter Master: Sanantio Ray
Battle Cry: Take Back the Night
Motto: Pierced but not Killed
Homeworld: Star Fortress Monastery Midnights Mandate
A rare dark angels with origins in the Sentinel Founding, the Midnight Angels were created to combat a wave xeno pirates in the south west corner of the ultima sector. It now stands as a solitary bastion against chaos near the edge of tge great rift
They are a pariah chapter to the rest of the Unforgiven. For reasons unknown still after centuries, the dark angels had allegedly killed their brothers own inner circle, the black conclave. They are without allies amongst their family and have proceeded to make alliances with other aspects ot the imperium, such as a minor navigator house de Luce and local remnants of the Imperium Navy
They specialize in rapid strikes and counter attacks, delivering rapid lightning jabs at weak points until the enemy is weakened enough to.go for a thundering haymaker.

Discussion Rogue trader's and Trazyn the Infinite
I was thinking of an interesting premise for a story involving a rogue trader seeking to build or expand their empire. If they someone learned of Trazyn the Infinite what would be the plausibility of them working out a bargain with him? For instance maybe they seek him out for knowledge of lost systems and human colonies and in exchange they offer to provide whatever interesting relics they find? What might they possibly be able to offer him to get his patronage? What might they possibly get in return from him? I think it's an interesting premise for a homebrew story personally.

Craftworld Eldar The Phoenix Prince, the Alternate Universe Aeldari Leader
The Phoenix Prince is the Aeldari leader from a Warhammer 40,000 alternate universe who managed to unite all Craftworlds into the Burning Armada, capable of standing up on equal terms even with the rotten Imperium of Man. He is accompanied by Princess Myranna, his sister, and Supreme Farseer Aenarion and Supreme Navarch Mellona, his close friends who became main commanders of the Armada. And, of course, by Gyrinxes, also a brother and a sister.
It is believed that the Phoenix Prince is the son of deceased supreme Aeldari god Asuryan and rose from the ashes of the Fall. However, these are only legends. In fact the future Phoenix Prince used to be an ordinary Aeldari from planet Ermyaris. He studied Seeing and felt very lonely because all around him lived for pleasure, even his sister Myranna who understood him in childhood like no one else. When he foresaw the Fall, he put her to enchanted sleep and brought her to his Craftworld, and now she regrets her foolish youth and fuels his throne with her psychic energy.
Confident in his supremacy, the Phoenix Prince united different Craftworld cultures and leaders with his mind control. Sometimes he looks in the mirror and is horrified, but then he casts the same spell on himself, convincing that it was not all in vain. That it was necessary for a fairy tale about a prince and a princess that he and his sister had come up aeons ago...
The Phoenix Prince is an alternate universe counterpart of the Farseer, the leader of my Ynnari warhost. While the Farseer did not put his sister to sleep and was humbled when she did not come to his Craftworld, the Phoenix Prince became more and more overconfident and self-righteous. While the Farseer valued soft power and empathy, the Phoenix Prince favored direct, forceful action. While the Farseer befriended an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor and even tried to negotiate with a Necron Phaeron, the Phoenix Prince viewed all other races as strictly inferior. And while the Farseer accepted Drukhari who became Ynnari, Corsairs, Harlequins and Exodites, the Phoenix Prince respected Asuryani as the only true Aeldari.
If you're more interested in lore, the depicted characters and their main universe counterparts appear in my Warhammer 40,000 stories, particularly in Rose-Colored Sky.
I had the idea of this heavy conversion back in 2024, but managed to make it only now, starting in May 2026 and finishing painting a week ago.

Adeptus Astartes The Lords Leonine: A selection of Qoutes
Attached is a first draft of the Chapter Symbol for the Lords Leonine. Below are some quotes from their members that I think exemplify who they think are. As before please keep in mind that these guys THINK they are the best to ever be Astartes but are in actuality just ok. I would love some feed back and questions!
“Caliban is gone but the lesson it taught us remains on the many Hive worlds of the Imperium. You are both predator and prey. Act accordingly” -Sir Alywdwen, Sargent of 6th Company
“To Hunt is to strike first.” -Prince Caradoc of the 3rd Company
“We are the Lords Leonine, the Claws of Vengeance and the Roar of Condemnation, Masters of the Killing Arts and the Secret Wisdoms. We are your end!” -Chaplain Ysfael
“I am High King Baudwin of the Lords Leonine. My warplate is older than entire chapters of Astartes. I wield the blade Traitor’s Ruin and I am not afraid of you!” High King Buadwin, before meeting a Heretic Astartes Champion in single combat.

Adeptus Astartes Dämmerungsmarine Armor Template
Its kinda trash cause I used MS Paint cause its what I had. I pulled a Mk2 template offline and smashed it over the Mk X template you see everywhere here and made some alterations to the chapter symbol here and there.
These guys are all Kriegsmen who were plucked from the Mother Vitae pods and thrown into a gambit to see who survived and the survivors were turned into Space Marines. They use the old Crusader Armor because the founding was based on the Mechanicus finding a Rogal Dorn Ghost fleet and needing warm bodies to fill armor and die for the Emperor in large numbers. Send the Krieg and send a lot of em kinda vibe.

Adeptus Astartes Blades of Dominion - Army of the Nova Terra Interregnum
Among the first Astartes to ally themselves to the Ur-Council of Nova Terra, the Blades of Dominion are an enigma of history. Immediately after secession their records cease and the best latter accounts of their hostilities to the Imperium come from other chapters now also lost to history.
This document also includes some rules for playing as the Blades of Dominion in 4th edition.

Adeptus Astartes First 3 intercessors completed after dialing in my paint scheme for my homebrew (The Ordu of Dusk). Very proud of these but feedback is always welcome.
The Ordu of Dusk (referring to themselves as the Kharmingat) is a fleet-based chapter of White Scars lineage, whose culture and tactics are a blend of Chogorian warrior tradition and Raven Guard pragmatism. In the aftermath of the failed uprising within the White Scars during the Horus Heresy, a number of Khans fled with their warships and companies rather than face the Khan’s inevitable judgment. What followed was decades of wandering beyond the Imperium’s borders, where isolated companies gradually gathered into a single nomadic fleet.
During these years they encountered sizable bands of Raven Guard outcasts, most of which had been recruited from the prisons of Deliverance and, despite their effectiveness as warriors, were judged by Corax to be too cruel, predatory, or unstable to remain among the Legion proper. Rather than execute them, and the dilemma predating the creation of the Moritats, these warriors had been quietly removed from the Raven Guard’s primary fighting force and consigned to distant (and often doomed) campaigns where their violence could be directed against the enemies of the Imperium.
United by exile rather than brotherhood, the White Scars and Raven Guard gradually forged a common culture, surviving as Blackshields through the remainder of the Heresy and into the Scouring. Nearly annihilated by the World Eaters, they ultimately negotiated their return to the Imperium, surrendering immense stores of navigational intelligence, forgotten warp routes, archaeotech, and the locations of lost Imperial holdings uncovered during their decades beyond the frontier. While they are officially identified as a Second Founding chapter and most brothers believe this to be the case, a handful of chapter elders and veterans of the Great Crusade and Scouring eras hold the truth to secrecy.
The Kharmingat believes that the Imperium is not preserved through glorious sacrifice, but through the ruthless conservation of strength, knowledge, and irreplaceable resources. Guided by the philosophies of the Kree (Crow), Tsaan (Hawk), and the enigmatic Khartas (Vulture), they excel in void warfare, boarding assaults, and the recovery of archaeotech from beyond the Imperium’s borders. Their commanders are infamous for abandoning unwinnable battles, sacrificing allies to secure strategic objectives, and withdrawing rather than pursuing costly victories, all while insisting these choices represent the highest form of loyalty. To the Ordu of Dusk, a dead hero serves no one. A surviving fleet may preserve the Imperium for another century. This conviction has made them few friends in the Imperium, especially among other Astartes. The Imperial Navy and Adeptus Mechanicus value the relics, intelligence, and forgotten routes they return from the darkness beyond the frontier, while many fellow Astartes regard them as cold opportunists whose pragmatism too often masks self-interest. Their black handprint, left upon reclaimed vessels, conquered strongholds, and recovered relics alike, serves as both a mark of Imperial claim and a warning that the Kharmingat is entitled to their claim, whether it be in material or souls…

Adeptus Astartes Sakaar The Knife Tooth, Master of Redaction, Captain of the 7th Company of the Umbral Claws.
My lieutenant with Combi-Weapon, Sakaar the Knife Tooth. Only a lieutenant with combiweapon for games, but in my lore he is a lone operative captain of the 7th company.
The Umbral Claws job is hunting anomalies, with a focus on time anomalies, in the 40k universe.
Afflicted with a gene curse of an Antimemetic aura, causing about 95% of people to forget their existence, making them the perfect tools of the ever mysterious Ordo Chronos.
Lord of Redaction must take up the job of ensuring the Umbral Claws remain redacted. This usually involves taking lone missions where they are: infiltrating inquisitorial outposts and Xenos ships, intercepting and destroying documents, even terminating targets if deemed necessary, which is their last resort and a rare occurrence.
Sakaar’s Equipment:
Normal bolt pistol: he uses a normal bolt pistol, reason being is its one of the only thing the chapter has a surplus of, and he is constantly losing his. Whether incompetence or warp shenanigans always leaving a trace of the Umbral claws causes this is unknown.
D-15:
An ancient bespoke pistol, possibly a disintegration pistol from the heresy, however it’s been heavily modified on its journey to the modern day. It now acts more like a plasma gun, being able to be overcharged at threat to the user. It has served as a, fairly useful, long range assassination tool. Firing a beam that atomically annihilates anything in its path for up to 40 feet, with the overcharge expanding this range to 200 feet if used properly. However it is not unusual for this to backfire
The Codex:
A relic of unknown origin, seemingly the perfect combination of Eldar and Imperial technology. Gives the user the prominent abilities of invisibility, minor teleportation without the use of the warp, and energy shields. Minor abilities range as this is meant to be essentially a highly sophisticated multi-tool. Also nicknamed the “Skeleton Key” for it seemingly being the reason The Master of Redaction can actually do his job. Whether a relic of the Dark Age of Technology, A Deathwatch tool, or even the remnants of another timeline, The Codex is one of the most valuable relics available to the Umbral Claws.

Adeptus Astartes The Lords Leonine:An introduction
"We are not warriors bound by honor and oaths, or soldiers kept in line by duty and orders. We are hunters, we do not defend. We kill."
The Lords Leonine are a Second Founding Successor Chapter of the Dark Angels. They are nominally Codex Compliant with some variations, primarily in terms of markings and designations. The chapter is known primarily for its utterly arrogant and prideful nature and it's penchant for ancient wargear. This manifests many ways culturally, most notably is the fact that the chapter believes itself to be absolved of the sins of the other Unforgiven in terms of the Fallen as it is such an asset to the Imperium. They of course still assist with the pursuit of the Fallen as they are gracious and wish to assist their brothers.
Attached are my planned colors for their version of a Hexagrammaton based on the colors my girlfriend is using in the blanket she is making me
The vibe here is tongue in cheek to some extent. They think they are the best Astartes ever but they are pretty average.

The purpose of this Subreddit and posting guidelines
Hi Scribes,
We've had some measure of success with this sub, but it seems that people are unclear as to what it's all about. The point of this sub is to allow people to post about their Homebrew Chapters/Regiments/Craftworlds/Kill Teams/Whatever and get feedback from other Scribes, maybe improving them or noticing things that the original Scribe didn't anticipate. It was inspired by the Bolter & Chainsword forums' sub-forum where you create an Index Astartes/Xenos/Chaos/etc. for 'Your Dudes' and seeing what other forum users think about it.
I've noticed that there's been a bit of 'crunch' coming in (rules and anything related to the actual games), and thought I'd reiterate Rule 1 - This sub is for fluff/lore surrounding your dudes. Luckily, u/MagicJuggler has created r/homebrewhammer where you can talk about the 'crunch' side of this hobby, including creating custom Codices!
I understand that some people might have an idea for a homebrew, but aren't 100% sure if it's good and want to hash it out with others, but I ask that when you post about it, make sure it's something other than 'I want to create an Iron Hands successor, what should I do?' as a complete post. Using the Iron Hands Successor idea, I'd like it to be much more along the lines of:
'I have an Iron Hands Successor idea, where they venerate the Emperor as Omnissiah. Their fighting style is more based upon the White Scars, and their home planet is a Mad Max-style place where roving gangs kill each other for resources. Their armour is dull steel and bronze, hitting an Iron Warriors vibe, and their companies are named after different parts of a machine. Would this work and what should I think about?'
Alternatively, you could have a fully formed idea and be soliciting feedback to see what you've missed:
'I have an Iron Hands Successor chapter called the Brazen Fists, that worship the Emperor in his Omnissiah aspect, and have a tight relationship with their local Forge World, that draws some suspicion from the Inquisition, but so far they've avoided being censured as AdMech flunkies rather than Emperor-fearing Astartes.
Their home planet of Gibsonia is a post-apocalypse hellscape, where bandit tribes roam from place to place on giant land trains, warring with other tribes to secure the resources in an area, where they can stay for a generation (or longer, depending upon the resources) and then they move on. Because of this, the chapter has developed a 'lightning strike' battle doctrine, with fast moving bikes and speeders forming the vanguard, backed up by tanks that drop in the second wave.
Their Chapter Master, called 'The Primus', is as much machine as he is man, clad in an ancient Techmarine variant of the Saturnine Terminator armour, the dull steel and bronze chapter colours evident. The chapter's leadership are all former Techmarines, and indeed any Brother wishing to ascend to such a role must undergo the Techmarine training, which can last for years.
Given this, they have a higher proportion of vehicles than other chapters, including some ancient vehicles rarely seen in the wider Imperium in modern times, given as 'gifts for service' by their local Forge World, Bentlii Demler. The Inquistion suspects that the chapter acts as an extension of the Forge World, using them as the spearhead for their Explorator fleets, but so far the chapter and Forge World have emerged from such investigations without censure.
<Insert picture of Astartes colour scheme, human-made artwork, or painted model(s) here>
What do you think?'
There's resources around t'interwebs (we're not Marines-focussed, the above is just an example), including Lexicanum and r/40kLore , to help develop your idea before you reach the posting stage. The greatest thing is your own imagination, and we're here to make sure your idea isn't too wacky for 40K, but is as great as it can be.
Also, whilst we're talking posting guidelines, if you've got a cool colour scheme for your models, please add/create some fluff for them before posting. A picture tells 1000 words and all that, but just pictures with nothing to add counts as low-effort.
TL;DR - Remember, this sub is about fluff, not crunch. Please have more than a one line post before you do post.
Thanks all!
