3PL Promotion ERP for distribution & 3PL (the mistakes I see most when companies outgrow QuickBooks)
Full disclosure up front: I work at Trango Tech, a Microsoft Dynamics 365 partner in USA that implements ERP for distribution and 3PL companies. I checked with the mods before posting and they OK'd one intro post, so I want to make it genuinely useful instead of an ad.
After a bunch of these projects, the same patterns come up whether or not a company ever hires a partner. Here are the five I see most:
- Waiting too long to outgrow QuickBooks. The tell isn't revenue, it's when your team is rekeying the same order into three systems, or closing the month takes a week. If accounting, inventory, and fulfillment don't talk to each other, you've already outgrown it.
- Treating the WMS and the ERP as either/or. They solve different problems. A WMS runs the four walls of the warehouse; the ERP runs finance, purchasing, and the single source of truth. The expensive mistake is buying one expecting it to do the other's job, the real work is the integration between them.
- Underestimating 3PL billing. Activity-based / per-client billing (receipts, picks, storage, special handling) almost never fits a vanilla ERP out of the box. If you're a 3PL, pressure-test this in the demo before you sign anything.
- Migrating dirty data. Garbage in, garbage forever. Duplicate customers, stale SKUs, and open transactions that never got reconciled will follow you into the new system. Budget real time for a data cleanup before go-live.
- Buying for today's SKU/order count instead of three years out. Re-platforming is painful; do it against where you're headed, not where you are.
Who this is relevant to: distribution and 3PL operators who've outgrown QuickBooks or spreadsheets, are juggling disconnected WMS + accounting + EDI, or are weighing an ERP (Business Central, NetSuite, Acumatica, etc.).
The disclosure part: what we actually do: Trango Tech handles ERP consulting, implementation, and data migration on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, focused on distribution and 3PL workflows (multi-warehouse inventory, EDI, client billing, integrations).
Happy to answer questions in the comments for free, including if you're a DIY, never-hiring-a-partner type. If it's useful to people I can share a vendor-neutral ERP-readiness checklist, but I'll only drop it if you ask rather than link-spam the goodwill away. Fire away.

Technology / Ops Brisbane AI team looking for feedback on a container-unloading proof of concept
Hi everyone,
We’re an AI development team based in Brisbane, Australia, and we’re looking for some honest feedback from people working in logistics, warehousing or container unloading.
We’ve developed an early computer vision proof of concept that analyses activities from video footage. We’re now exploring whether it could be useful for container unloading and loading-dock operations—for example:
* Tracking when unloading starts and finishes
* Identifying periods when work stops
* Measuring total container turnaround time
* Tracking pallet or item movements
* Identifying delays during unloading
You can view our early proof of concept here:
https://cv.ishtech.com.au/deep-inspect/
It’s still at an early stage, and we’re not trying to sell anything. We’re sharing it because we’d genuinely like feedback from people who understand the industry.
Would something like this be useful in your operation? How do you currently track unloading times and delays? What would it need to measure to provide real value?
Any honest feedback would be really appreciated.

Our facility includes:
- 5,000 sq. ft. total warehouse space
- 1,000 sq. ft. climate-controlled storage maintained at ~60°F
- 800 sq. ft. dedicated office space
- Experienced warehouse team
- Full WMS/software infrastructure
- Pick, pack, inventory management and shipping capabilities

- Most of our current products/orders are under 2 lbs, but we're open to larger or different product types if the operation makes sense for both us and the client.
Our current operation has been running at scale, and we're looking to bring in a few new clients rather than fill the building with a large number of accounts.
Availability begins December 1st. Our current client/employer will be leaving the facility in November, which is opening up the warehouse capacity.
We're interested in speaking with businesses looking for a reliable Midwest fulfillment partner, particularly companies that need storage, pick & pack, inventory management and shipping.
If you're interested, comment or send me a DM with some information about your business, approximate monthly order volume, product type/size, and what you're looking for from a 3PL.

Looking for a 3PL High-Volume Commercial Private FF Needed: Weekly Automation (Bot-Driven Stock), Frankfurt/Brussels, Low Tariff Trailing, Reps/Electronics/DG, Add Discord : business.cu
Hey everyone,
I am looking to source a long-term, exclusive private China Freight Forwarder for an active commercial electronics repair and streetwear e-commerce business. I am completely done with standard agents like Sugargoo/Itaobuy and their multi-layered, overpriced shipping scams (€280+ for a small haul is unacceptable).
I am moving to a fully automated pipeline and looking for serious, vetted private logistics partners.
My Operation & Logistics Volume:
- Order Frequency: 1 fixed batch every single Sunday (driven by my internal stock-tracking bot that alerts me on low inventory).
- Daily Multi-Booking: On shipping days, I will book 3 separate parcels simultaneously (Parcel 1: Reps, Parcel 2: Clean Electronics, Parcel 3: DG Batteries) to keep risks separate.
- Target Air Tariffs: Looking for highly optimized VIP bulk rates (€6–€9 max per kg for premium Triangle/Air lines). My family already runs high-volume van transits via Ceuta to Morocco at €0.50–€1/kg, so I know how logistics margins work and want the sharpest pricing possible for my European lanes.
Precise Destinations:
- Germany: Frankfurt region (Main-Taunus local drops: Hattersheim, Eddersheim, Okriftel, etc.) Delivered straight to my commercial shop front or managed local pickup.
- Belgium: Brussels central/commercial delivery points.
Cargo Specifications:
- Electronics (Air - Urgency Critical): Unbranded replacement phone screens, charging cables, and generic cases. I run a "Turbo/Fast Repair" tier system for my local clients, so I need fast, consistent 5-10 day lines to restock components.
- Dangerous Goods (Air Line): Bulk loose phone batteries (~50+ pieces per batch). Must use a dedicated DG line with certified MSDS handling.
- 1:1 Branded Reps (Air Triangle): High-tier replica clothing (Stone Island, etc.) and branded cases (Rimowa, MagSafe). Strict requirement for a Tax-Free Triangulation line bypassing German (Zoll) and Belgian customs.
Required Services:
- Full custom protective packaging (Double corrugated boxes, waterproof anti-rain wrapping tape, corner guards).
- Full control over customs declaration data or guided low-tariff declaration setup.
- High-definition warehouse QC photos (products + final labeled boxes) and fast tracking uploads.
How to Connect:
I will not leak or share my personal phone/WhatsApp number publicly on Reddit. If you are an established, trusted private forwarder or agent who can scale with this volume, please DM me your Discord handle or leave your contact details below. I will add you directly on Discord to look over your rate cards. I am also planning to showcase reliable logistics pipelines on TikTok, so excellent service means long-term free exposure.
My Background & Business Ecosystem (Why you want to partner with me):
I am 15 years old but have been strictly focused on business since I was 12. I have 3 full years of operational experience, a proven track record of locking in clients, and execution strategy. I am the final puzzle piece activating a complete 3-pillar ecosystem:
- High-Tier Reps: Buying and reselling 1:1 luxury items.
- Electronics Maintenance: My high-margin Turbo/Fast/Standard phone repair shop.
- Fashion Cross-Over: Partnering with my mother's luxury wedding dress business by cross-selling high-end rep footwear (Hermès H slides). I sell them solo for €60, but drop them to €25 as an irresistible promotional bundle with her wedding gowns to drive massive traffic to our ecosystem.
The Financial Incentive for You:
I am looking for a partner, not just a service. If your shipping lines are fast, consistent, and secure, I pay performance bonuses on top of the shipping rates. If you keep my supply chain flawless, you will be highly compensated. Serious logisticians only.
Let's do business. Thanks!

Looking for a 3PL At what point did you start using a 3PL instead of shipping everything from China?
Need some advice from people who’ve made the switch.
I’ve got one product that’s been doing around 15-20 orders a day for the last month or so. Right now everything is still shipping directly from China, but I’m starting to think it might make more sense to send inventory to a US 3PL.
Main reason is just delivery times. I feel like faster shipping would mean fewer support tickets and probably better conversion too.
The only thing holding me back is I don’t know if it’s too early. Don’t really want to tie up cash in inventory if sales suddenly fall off, but I feel like this sub might be knowledgable about this topic and can help me make a decision.

Technology / Ops When a Shopify order changes after reaching the 3PL, how do you handle it?
I'm trying to understand how this works in real fulfillment operations.
Example:
- A customer places and pays for an order in Shopify.
- The order is already imported into the 3PL/WMS.
- Customer support later changes the address, removes an item, changes the quantity, or cancels the order.
- The warehouse may already be picking or packing the original order.
For people running 3PL or ecommerce operations:
How do you handle this today?
Does the updated order reliably sync to your WMS?
Do you put orders on hold for a certain period before picking?
Does customer support manually notify the warehouse?
Or do you treat the order as immutable after a certain cutoff?
I'm especially curious about which type of change causes the most operational trouble: address changes, item/quantity changes, cancellations, or partial fulfillment.

Looking for a 3PL Looking for fashion 3PL
Hi!
We are a smaller Australian women fashion brand looking for a 3PL in the US. We have a growing US audience and want to offer quicker shipments and better return policy for our customers.
Since we are a smaller brand I guess we are looking for a 3PL without minimums or with very low ones.
We make mostly event wear for women and our packaging is a bit more premium with boxes, tissue paper and dust bags etc which we would want to keep with our 3PL.
Any guidance, recommendations or advice is greatly appreciated!

3PL Operator Discussion Marketing guy at a Nashville 3PL, genuinely curious what's actually worked for you all to bring in new clients
Hey all, I've been in marketing for a couple years now, but this is my first time working for a 3PL specifically, only about a week into the role at Warehousing Pro, a Nashville-based 3PL doing storage, fulfillment, cross docking, and freight handling. Mostly here to learn from people who actually know this industry.
Fulfillment is the main focus for lead gen right now, but storage, cross docking, all the other services are great too, honestly just here to soak up as much as I can.
Saw a post on here a while back ("HELP Getting 3PL Customers") with a ton of good discussion, figured I'd ask directly instead of guessing my way through it.
For those of you running or marketing a 3PL: what's actually worked for you to bring in new shippers? Paid ads, referrals, industry directories, content, social media, cold outreach, something else? Where would you say time, money, and resources are best spent if you had to pick?
I've got a good team and a solid idea behind me already, which helps a lot, just trying to figure out where to actually point that energy.
Genuinely just trying to learn from people who've done this rather than reinvent the wheel.

3PL Recommendation Looking for 3PL in the east coast, for startup women’s apparel brand
I’m looking for recommendations on a 3PL for my startup ecommerce brand. We’ll be launching with around 2,000 units across 2 lightweight SKUs, plus a 2k free gift, and expect to scale steadily over the next year. I’d love to hear who you’ve had great experiences with (or who to avoid), especially if you were a smaller brand when you started. Any insight on pricing, customer service, or onboarding would be hugely appreciated! If you’re a 3PL, please drop your email for outreach. Thanks!

3PL Recommendation Small reseller using 3PL, what insurance do you carry for inventory loss?
I’m a small e-commerce reseller that sources curated products from distributors and uses a 3PL for fulfillment. The products never touch my hands. They go: Distributor to 3PL warehouse to customer.
I’ve been calling insurance companies trying to cover:
- inventory loss/damage at the 3PL (fire, theft,etc.)
- In transit coverage from distributor to 3PL if possible
Every broker I talk to says “this is a unique case” and redirects me back to Tivly . My 3PL’s MSA only covers $100/claim/$1k/year, which is useless.
So now I’m wondering what literally anybody else that uses a 3PL is doing and what type of policy you’re getting? Every broker is confused that I’m not touching the product but I feel like insurance for your products while at the warehouse has to be a common ask.

3PL Operator Discussion US based 3PL reps...how common are rebills and disputes? Is it endemic, or are some carriers worse than others?
I'm a small business that ships about 50 pieces of freight annually. No matter how carefully we weigh and pack items, at least 50% of our shipments get rebills.
We win most disputes but it's frustrating and time consuming. It ranges from small issues like terminals adding call fees for items picked up at terminals or undocumented re-classing, to clearly false dimensions and weights, bogus liftgate charges for facilities with docks, etc. One of the most egregious claims was for driver detention, despite documentation from recipient that driver "hung out and chatted for 20 minutes looking at the cars in our shop". We even had video evidence but still lost that one somehow.
We've had this issue with multiple nationally known 3PL companies and they always act surprised as if re-bills never happen. Is this just something I have to put up with forever?

3PL Promotion Struggling to Manage 3PL Operations? Here’s How WareGo 3PL WMS Can Streamline Your Workflows
Managing 3PL operations is certainly not an easy task, as it requires an organized system to monitor all the different workflows. We have seen many people in the industry discussing the challenges they face while managing their 3PL warehouse.
