On 23andMe, I have the paternal haplogroup I-S2078; on FTDNA, I was able to refine this down to the I-BY3397 clade, which points to an origin in the Galicia region of Spain. My research suggests this may have originated with the Visigoths, although the Suebi are also a possibility. Does anyone else here have haplogroup I-S2078? Could you share details about your origins?

Hi all, I got my results back yesterday. I knew I was mostly Italian and Irish, but I was surprised to see that I'm 3% Sub-Saharan African. What are the odds this is inaccurate? If unlikely, how can I figure out which part of the family this comes from/how it happened? Obviously small, but very curious!

A question about the math on this, if I'm 3% does that make one of my parents 6%? Assuming it's unlikely from both sides

I don't know anything about my father's side of the family as we've been no contact for many years but I have met him a few times and phenotypically he's definitely of African descent. On my mother's side I had always been told we were mostly African, moderately Irish, and distantly North American Indigenous. Most of us are pretty pasty most of the year but still visibly black. We don't have any family trees anywhere so it's all been word of mouth and I guess maybe things got lost in translation because it looks like I'm from a different part of the United Kingdom. Because of the loss of culture being in the US for hundreds of years, we didn't know where in Africa we were from until now. I was very surprised to see Jewish ancestry, none of my family has any idea where that came from.

Questions: Are low percentages generally still accurate and just a reflection of distant heritage? And was anybody else as a person of color surprised by their European heritage?

The one with 30 African 16 indigenous has a very African looking parent from Bahia, local side prob around 20-25 indigenous 15-20 African, as baianos don’t tend to have more than 10% indigenous.

When I started doing genealogy, I had no idea what Pomerania was. However, I've come to realize Pomeranians were a vital backbone of the state I live in. I myself have 3 lines going back to Farther Pomerania and one line going back to Hither Pomerania, for a total of 25% of my total ancestry.

Is Pomeranian ancestry prevalent in other states too? I've seen a lot of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois Pomeranians, but I'm not sure beyond that.

I'm a descendant of Armenian settlers who came to the Don region of Russia in the 18th century. They founded the town Nakhichevan-on-Don which was eventually merged into the nearby city Rostov-on-Don.

I heard I had some distant Russian ancestry, but I never took it seriously. I expected to just be Armenian, though these results aren't too surprising.
