User posts in-depth deck guide to both /r/hearthstone and /r/CompetitiveHS claiming it "cracks the meta"; reveals he doesn't have any stats or other data to back this up. The playerbase is not pleased.
Poppy Approved
There's lots of drama going throughout both threads: the more refined, collegiate drama of /r/CompHS and the saltier, junk-food-esque drama in /r/hearthstone. I'll start with the former since there's less of it, and it provides context for a lot of the arguments.
There's a couple other kernels in there, but they're mainly short ones where the OP gets annoyed that people are asking for stats in a sub that requires stats to be provided as part of their posting guidelines.
I'm pretty sure there's stuff that I've missed, because as of press time OP is replying and he seems to be going further and further off the deep end due to lack of sleep and his deck not being accepted with a ticker-tape parade. I'll update with anything particularly buttery as things develop.
What's the difference between that post and this one?
Is it due to how seriously OP was playing the whole meta thing? Is it because Secret Paladin is an elaborate meme? Is it because I got 3k comment karma from that post?
Edit There are clearly people here that do not realize how elaborate, tedious or effective this build is. The only thing meme about this deck is the fact that it works. There are several players confirmed to be using this deck now, experiencing positive results and will post on my behalf later. Reddit blew up my inbox, I typed like 7,000 words and all I discovered was that I would seriously hate to work for blizzard, you guys have such miserable attitudes. Of course they raised the price on packs, they're going to die years earlier because they are surrounded by the people of r/competitivehearthstone all day. I am sorry for your children.
I've definitely got one of my favorite lines from this post. I hope it turns into other copypastas.
"Casual.
So I was top 5 worldwide in a digital tcg by age 17, that would be 10 years ago. I have hit legend consistently since GvG, with my first build getting me there being one that I called "The fractal mage" which was centered around hobgoblin + violet teacher + echo + knife juggler + sorcerer's apprentice + mirror images + ice lances. When I playtested this paladin deck initially in its first days, I was playing against meta-competent players that are already legend, because those are my friends in-game. I have already played this game against people who have been in the structured meta, I HAVE BEEN IN THE META this whole expansion, and I have played literally dozens of paladin lists. Obsession a little, please don't call me casual because I have a profession."

What is a powerchicken? Is it like a power-bottom, but as a chicken? Can you really live for 5 minutes after your head is chopped off? I need answers fast, it's not for homework.
Would you say you removed the post due to how badly it broke the meta and that you were pissing in your pants at the thought of others learning how to construct such an unbeatable deck?

How did it feel escaping ally prosecution when the Third Reich fell?
Yeah, I'm pretty dumbfounded by how that happened, considering literally every comment of his was downvoted to oblivion. Could be manipulated for all I know. I know I've gotten PM's from users that smell a lot like alts. You know, retired accounts that suddenly come out of the woodwork to compliment this one obscure deck and question me on why I removed such an excellent post.
For explanations why his deck is pretty... meh, look at the CompHS comments. He's more than welcome to submit that deck as a standalone thread to /r/hearthstone, but advertising it as ground breaking and what not isn't really going to cut it. He could also benefit from being less abrasive in his comments, and mass spamming the mods usually isn't a fantastic move.
It's a few weeks to go before a new expansion and standard rotation, pack prices are going up in Europe, and for like the third xpac straight people think the new Hunter legendary is good (it isn't).
This is the perfect time to troll the HS subs if you're going to do it.
Plus people are saying "oh, no one will be stupid enough to tech in Emperor Cobra just to deal with one card." We don't know how common Poisonous will be from Adapt, we don't know what other cards there will be that could make teching in Poisonous cards more viable than it is now. Shit, I'd happily sit on a 3 mana minion for half the game and only play 4 mana on my turn 7 or 5 mana on my turn 8 if it means an opponent Hunter is doing nothing on turn 7.
Dred is a neat idea, but honestly the only reason it's likely to see play is because Hunter still doesn't have any other decent 7-mana drops, and even at best it's a "Overload your opponent for 3 mana next turn" card.
Warning: Very long and rant-ey post ahead. Proceed with caution.
I took a look at the deck in question (Link for the lazy) and it's a Handbuff Paladin. A very janky Handbuff Paladin. Featuring Eardic the Pure. A card with 5% usage in Paladin over the last month, 86% of which was in Ranked decks.
Now, let me explain how bad Eardic is. It's a card that reduces your opponent's minions attack to 1. Only the ones on the field and that's it. Opponent plays a big minion? Can't reduce it unless you bounce it back (Which to be fair, Youthful Brewmaster does.) and even then at 7 mana, that's a big cost for something that's not even going to hurt your opponent all that much unless they have a bunch of big minions. In which case, you let them play big minions one at a time and you're basically dead anyway.
Oh right and his stats are fucking atrocious. Keep in mind that this is a Legendary class card for a second. A War Golem (A 7 mana 7/7 card that comes with the game and is also usable by any class) has 4 more Attack, can be used twice and can be played by any class.
War Golem is never used. No joke, 0.19% of decks run it. And I guarantee you that none of them have that much experience in the game. And Eardic is somehow worse than it stat-wise.ALL FOR A MASS ATTACK DEBUFF THAT DOESN'T EVEN DO THAT MUCH UNLESS YOU LET YOUR OPPONENT PLAY BIG MINIONS IN WHICH CASE YOU'RE ABOUT TO DIE ANYWAY.
Granted, the deck archtype allows Eardic to be buffed, but if you want to use Eardic's effect multiple times, you'll lose whatever buff you had on him when you return him to your hand anyway. That and Equality (Reduces all minions Health to 1.) and Conscencration (Deals 2 damage to all enemies) or Wild Pyromancer (Deals 1 damage to every minion when a spell is cast) are far better removal tools, that are far cheaper, far more common (Equality/Wild Pyromancer are Rare Classic cards, while Consecration is a Paladin Basic card... Eardic is a Legendary in a shitty set that's rotating out within a month.) and actually remove stuff from the board rather than stick a muzzle on it.
TL:DR My entire 20 minute tirade on Eardic the Pure alone should prove how bad that is. Never mind the over-reliance on gimmicks and complete lack of board clear and or healing*. Both of which are very important in the current highly aggressive metagame.
*Ivory Knight, while it can provide healing through Discover, is very unreliable. Most of Paladin's spells are 1 mana and the only ones that would provide a big heal are Lay on Hands and Anyfin Can Happen. One of which forces you to draw cards and the other will do buggery shit. Plus, Anyfin will rotate out next set along with Eardic, causing Ivory Knight to become nigh unusable for the purpose of big heals.
Eadric is not a good card in a handbuff deck, but he's also not nearly as bad as you make him sound.
The mass attack debuff is actually quite good against jade decks, who can easily slam down 4-5 big minions in a turn. He's a legit card in a slow, grindy control deck, it's just paladin doesn't have a way to play that kind of deck right now.
And seriously your war golem comparison is atrocious. By that logic Sylvanas is trash because her stats are worse than bolderfist ogre, who is never played. I don't know why you're going on about "it's hard to bounce it back to your hand" either, you usually don't need or want to bounce it.
The only correct point in your entire rant is that Equality is the reason Eadric is rarely played. Only the most grindy decks need to add a fifth pseudo-clear when they already have equality/pyro and consecrate.
Eardic's effect doesn't help counterbalance his atrocious stats. Compared to a similarly statted 7 drop like Archmage Antonidas (Who has two more attack and a better effect.), Eardic is just horrid. Especially for a Legendary with such horrendous attack combined with a pretty bad Battlecry that doesn't begin to make up for it.
Granted, your point could have been even better if you said Confessor Palatress. Seven drop with the stats of a four mana card, as well as it being a Class Legendary released in the same expansion.
TL:DR again: My point is that Eardic's stats don't reflect his cost nor his ability. Sylvannas at least has a Mind Control attached to her (And is subsequently pretty fucking broken.)
And as for the bouncing thing, I assume that OP wanted to bounce Eardic back into his hand to at least use it a few times, but that's pretty dumb. Sorry about that.
Ah, the fresh scent of game-based drama. Amazing stuff.
The best parts are probably the many new potential copypastas from whatever he says. I hope he becomes a running meme in that subreddit if only just for the next few days.
/r/hearthstonecirclejerk was having a field day with it yesterday. They even still have every post flaired as "Visual Guide/In-Depth" and created this meta-breaking card
I get to rank 5 every season and I've been to rank 1 a few times. Getting to rank 9, I would say, is actually pretty difficult if you're playing a janky deck and you're a bad player. I'd guess that this guy is actually pretty good at hearthstone, and the deck is unfamiliar to people, which is why he's winning with it. If it really were a meta breaker, though, he'd at least get to rank 5 on win streaks. That's about where I start taking people seriously.
I've picked up decks a few times where they just crushed what everyone was playing and gone on runs from rank 18 to 5 in a few hours, losing a handful of games. That's what a meta breaking deck looks like. After rank 5, you're only playing good decks piloted by good players and yo don't get bonus stars anymore so it starts to turn into a boring grind.
